My old IW build was great
Illusionary Weaponry
Flurry
Sympathetic Visage (anti warrior)
Blackout (monk shutdown)
Illusion of Weakness (mad pwnage second life)
Conjure Phantasm (unbelievibly good when they're fleeing)
Sprint/Hamstring
Rez Sig
It was awesome. Very good anti warrior and anti monk.

As soon as I see a Me/W on the opposing team, I'll watch him like a hawk and shatter enchant as soon as the IW goes up. I normally time it so I start the shatter halfway through the IW cast so he can't get a cover enchant on top of it. That said...
A tip to budding IW mesmers. Get IW ready out of range of the enemy.

IW can be run in many ways. I know several R/Me's who run IW with Tiger's Fury and Expertise stances. Hell, I even met a great PvE trapper that ran in with IW after he had done this dirty work.
IW is one of the broadest skills in the game. Due to the fact that you can rely on that one skill for damage allows you to do almost anything else with the rest of your build.

IW... Beastmaster...
Damn you people, putting build ideas in my head, now I'm going have to go cap IW for my ranger.

And I just use Rend. Luckily for IW, there aren't too many people like you and me in the arenas.

I could see a R/Me IW trapper in pvp. Combo-ing Throw Dirt with barbed, dust and flame traps while using IW for supplemental damage isn't at all a bad idea. You've got your snare, blind, and DoT right there.
If I was going to do it, I'd run this:
Expertise: 8+2
Wilderness Survival: 12+2
Illusion: 10+1
IW
Whirling Defense (or Blackout if you like)
Throw Dirt
Barbed Trap
Dust Trap
Flame Trap
Serpent's Quickness
Troll Unguent -- Healing Spring is tempting, but the fact it needs you to stand still that long is a turn-off.

Plus, if you activate IW during Serpent's Quickness's duration, it'll recharge before it fades. ~_^

I've been having extremely good results with my R/Me IW build
Illusion 12
Expertise 11 (7+3+1)
Wilderness Survival 9 (8+1)
Inspiration 8
IW
Clumsiness
Barbed Trap
Lightening Reflexs
Storm Chaser
Drain Enchantment
Ill Of Weakness
Rez sig
I admit that there is not a lot of disruption... but you can take apart just about any warrior or ranger that comes your way. I like to drop back a pick off sprinters going after my healer. IW and Clumsiness give a nice spike (about 100 damage in this config). If he turns to fight... LR increase your attack speed while he misses. If he missed your trap and runs... Storm Chaser to finish. Has some real trouble against Drain Necros... its really meant to catch Warriors off gaurd or support your own warrior with some nice consistant damage.

I might try the above build, looks decent...
Last night I ran a Me/Mo IW build which worked pretty good, other than Necro's and Rangers killin me. But could easily beat W's Mo's, and most other Me's...
Illusion/Protect
16 Illusion
12 Protect
1: IW
2: CP
3: Guardian
4: Illusion of Weakness
5: Purge Conditions or Mend Ailment (I kind of prefer Mend Ailment)
6: Many options here - Pacifism, Rev of Fortune, Shielding Hands, Ether Feast, Clumsiness, Distortion, or Ethereal Burden.
7: Vital Blessing
8: Rez Sig
Weapon 1: Any rod for when IW is down, because you won't be in melee while it is down.
Weapon 2: Any weapon of choice for IW - with enchantments last 20% longer upgrade.
Off hand: +5 Armor +45 health while enchanted.
While IW is down get away from the enemy and use CP and your prot spells to assist your team. Usually someone is chasing you at this point so you can just run to distract the enemy at this time while your team attacks.
I'm sure some/most will think this build sucks and will tear it apart with all the counters out there, but of course anyone can find what will tear it down. But look first and what it can tear up. It worked for me.
