My Ranger does not Rock. I see him as more of a New Age guy. Or even Jazz.

I definitely go all Ranger, now that I'm further in the game. I see no use for my Necro secondary, to me. It'll just be spreading points for one skill in my skill bar to make it effective. However, I still use a necro skill every now and then, just for the fact that I don't know what to put for one of the slots. I just usually fill it with Storm Chaser if I'm running around a large map.

The only thing I don't like about Rangers, it's hard to decide how you want to go about things. Too many skills do too many cool things that I can't decide if I want WS, Marks, or BM.

As of this moment, I believe I have:
10 +1 +1 Marksmanship
10 +3 Expertise
6 +1 Wilderness Survival
4 Beast Mastery
and a Major Rune of Vigor

Sorry, but a ranger with no points in secondary is... not all that great.

As for the whole beast mastery points to buff up tiger's fury... not a smart move. Tiger's Fury is an elite worthy skill no dout but it has it's limitations, short duration and the forced recharges on your other skills.

R/W is... in debate, but I agree it has limited possibilities.
R/E, probably the most popular setup. It's straight forward, basically the ranger shoots arrows that are laced with a preparation and a buffed up with a conjure elemental. Or they can try the Mark of Rodgort trick.
R/Me, offers a lot of interesting builds. Namely the fragility and the mind wrack builds. Hex breaker, and empathy complement the ranger's style well.
R/Mo, never tried it, probably limited, better than R/W at least.
R/N, never even looked into it. Necromancers remind me of Goths, never be a necro.

I recon I'll jump on the bandwagon too. I'm building my first ranger (went the R/Me route) and I think I'm actually gonna end up utilizing the secondary. I did however recently reach lvl 13 and pumped Marksmanship up to 11 to meet the req's of my max damage bow and holy hell do they output some with an arrow.

Couple that with the interuptions and preparations and you got yourself a nice build. I definately won't be going the BM / Tiger's Fury route. Seems like a waste of points to me. Still though...having a great time with the ranger so far.

Beast Mastery/Tigers Fury is a specialty skill/build....I use it but only when my ranger buddy and I are spamming poision arrow / ignite arrows...it does a LOT of damage....other than that I'm a trapper....

Rangers are a jack of all trades master of none...if you enjoy getting a little piece of everythingt he ranger is a great class.

Of course, with a R/Me/Mo/Ele/Ne the Beast Mastery build for Tiger's Fury is NOT a good way to go. The secondary attribute of a Ranger is dependent on the buffs that the secondary provides. Thus, it's hard to use Tiger's Fury in a build that depends on recasting buffs, hell, I find it annoying, and I only cast Kindle/Ignite every 30 secs. However, with a primary Ranger, focusing only on Ranger bow (so, not trapping) skills...I find it odd for someone *not* to use Tiger's. It puts us in par with the staffs as far as RoT...much better than 2sec/shot.

Rangers are hard to party with, speaking from experience. Not that we're not GOOD, just that we're somehow not WANTED. Unless it's UW. At that point, any Ranger gets invited because people assume that any Ranger taking a pit stop at ToA is a Trapper. =]

Most rangers suck. I dedicate half an hour a day to destroying said rangers in competetion arenas, yes, it usually costs my team a win, but damn it's worth it.
Yes, I am a ranger. The second I see the dude in scale armour with the level 18 wolf using flame trap before putting down favorable winds, I know my target.

I'm not sure what my build is, I haven't changed it in so long =)
I think it's:
Marks: 11
WS: 12
Expertise: 9
Illusion Magic: 9

Basically, I can use Poison and Phantasm for 9 bars degen on the enemy, Troll Unguent for 9 bars regen on me, and then pop in kindle arrows + power shot/dual shot for the 20 points of damage per hit. And if the warriors look at me I have Whirling Defense to keep them off me while reinforcements arrive.

Not to mention if I need to, the WS makes a good trapper and Marks means Barrage is effective for PvE.

Tell me Rangers suck NOW

A huge part of being a ranger is patience, but some people can't do that. I've been in UW trapper group where some rangers have a trigger finger, or just want to get things over with and it causes us to be completely owned.

And yeah, I'm a R/Mo and the only monk skill I use is rez, as well.. I tried smiting a bit to be anti-monk but got pulled back to using mostly ranger skills.

And, of course we don't get picked as much. We're always behind the crowd doing things that most people can't see or comprehend. We aren't in the front pummelling or healing.

I hope that the expansion has a huge lot of cool new Ranger skills, we would rock even more if in PVP we could go completely invisible to radar for up to 10 seconds, or based on expertise. Our clothes are designed to look like camouflage anyways.

Single Mo/W can solo the UW. Rangers cannot. If you'd like to make a pure ranger, you're missing out on overall damage and useful secondary skills. Using around 100 attribute points to boost wilderness survival to level 12 is adding 20 fire damage. Using the same attribute layout to get 9 fire magic and 9 wilderness survival is adding 26 damage. There are multitudes of useful skills that benefit parties greatly, with a minimum amount of attribute points invested. Most people that are mindlessly deifying rangers here don't know what they're talking about; as rangers are the class most picked by newcomers to guild wars. Rangers can be very powerful, or incredibly annoying to casters, but thinking of the ranger as a class that should spread points into every attribute is only increasing the mentality that rangers are mediocore support characters with little to benefit the party they join.

depends. if ur melee the i dont know. but if ur a bow ranger than bring ignite arrows, dual shot, and throw dirt. when the fight starts hit ignite arrows, throw dirt, and then for some reason, the dopple ganger will take out an axe, now all u have to do is dual shot him to death
