I'm having some trouble with my war/ele build....
Hello all,
At the moment I'm a lvl 8 war/ele with a hammer....when I took ele as a secondary profession I thought that I'd be doing uber damage or being a great defensive tank. Eh it hasn't been like that so far.
I FINALLY got armor of earth and ward against the elements as possible ac buff spells but they are kinda....eh.
But...remember I'm lvl 8 and I haven't put points to my magic yet. So if earth magic/hammer warrior isnt a good build I still can switch to fire or prehaps water.
My strength is 6, hammer is 5. I have 10 unspent attribute points and 24 refund points.
So in short save me.....dying a lot and I could use some help with keeping this new guy alive. I'd also like some advice on what I should keep in my skill bar too. I'm not a sword or axe kind of guy but if I have to change my weapon specialty I could with my 24 refund points. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I haven't PvP yet just PvE...so however you wish to help me I will take all suggestions!

Armor of Mist(Water magic) is great - increases speed & armor! whereas armor of earth slows you as a penalty.
Axes & Swords have there benefits to a W/E as they allow you to carry an 'artifact' or 'scroll' in your second hand, which can increase your energy levels & magic, or whatever.

Hey thanks buddy I appreciate it. Now I need to track down armor of mist....and man I started with an axe specialty too. But that's what refunding is for I guess.
Anyone else wanna add anything?

Hey, there's nothing wrong with Axe! In PvE a lot of people think it's the best choice, thoughs swords are probably a bit more useful in PvP.
As a War/Ele, Earth is a viable choice, though maybe trickier than most. Some people have made REALLY dangerous builds with Hammer and Earth by exploiting knockdown. The problem with Earth is that it lacks the warrior-friendly Conjure spells of the others, and its defensive skills are more suited to a ranged attacker.
Of the others, Water is a nice choice because of Armor of Mist. I've seen builds that used Water Trident to good effect too, though of course that takes your Elite slot. Fire is nice in PvE because a lot of things are vulnerable, and in both because you can use Mark of Rodgort in addition to Conjure Flame for even more damage (though for that you'll probably need Glyph as well). Air is handy for fighting hard targets because lightning damage tends to partly ignore armor, and also because you can cause blindness pretty easily with Air.
Note that you shouldn't really judge a selection before sinking some attribute points in, as nothing is going to be really effective at 0 points. Don't worry, refund points are plentiful.

I am a w/el earth/hammer user and people HATE me. I stuck it out til lvl 20, so i did sink all my points in. i think i am 11 hammer 10 earth, 10 strength or something like that. People hate it when they are about to cast off a spell only to be knocked down - which both interrupts their spell and causes them to lose their mana spent on the spell in the process.
Poor casters...

I'm a W/E and made it to 17 so far.. its actually been fairly easy, the problem is you don't have the really great spells yet...
I went Sword Fire and I am a damage powerhouse, but I also keep gear around incase my party needs a solid tank, later on you get some great earth spells, but in my oppion fire is the only way to go till about lion's arch =P
The Problem with fire, is that its not very great with hammer, since you kinda need the +8-12 energy a focus gives you, also the gladiator suit from lion's arch is also VERY helpful.. at 17 I'm sitting at about 38 energy...
When I get into groups I ask them if they want a tank or a Area Damage ass kicker then respec accordingly, I love W/E its gets to be more fun =P

funny my spec for W/E is totally Assassin type.
I use Sword
Sever Artery
Gash
Galrath Slash
Final Thrust
Pure Strike
Hamstring (if in very coordinated pvp that someone else is using hamstring, replace with powerstrike)
Conjure (element)
Berserker Stance
I love to have my conjure buff on then immediatly go up to the monk, hamstring, then unleash my pure strike + berserker stance, quickly deal a lot of damage while building up all my adrenal skills, then unload on the caster with sever artery + gash followed by Galrath Slash, Pure Strike, Power Strike, and Final Thrust for good measure.
I've killed monks solo this way cuz they never see it comming.

What sucks though is that None of these skills are Elite,
So I'm debating on which ability I can do without and replacing what elite skill with it.
I was thinking of changing hamstring with Bull's Charge, but I have not tested it in pvp yet so i'm not sure how good it is.
Any suggestions?

The problem with most W/E builds is that once they run out of energy they lose a lot of the bang. For all your energy needs I suggest Victory is Mine!.

I might take out Galrath Slash and replace it with Immolate (for teh burn)
Ditch pure strike pick up "Victory is mine!" (as Jorge Llorens suggested )which gives you 10-70 hp and 5 energy per status condition its based on tactics but even at rank 0 its pretty decent
Bleed, deepwounds, Crippled, burning = thats 4 status conditions for 20 energy, since you paid 5 for ViM you'll gain 15.

Once again, mana isn't a very big problem for me, and right now I like the abilities I have but once again I'm looking for an ELITE skill that would be good to replace...not just another skill.

Well I am lvl 12 at the moment....I went with axe and fire.
I found this nifty little focus artifact that gives +15 mana (and +5 if u got healing skillz). Combine that with gladiator armor and I have somewhere around 46-50 mana at lvl 12.
Not bad for a warrior/ele but that item has a big drawback....it drops energy regen. -1 to be exact. Might seem like nothing but it really, really is. I am HOPING that a rune exists that boosts mana regen.
So far axe and that seem to be working out for me. I'm basically a run-in, unload all nukes then swing lol. I picked axe since it has a lot of bonus damage attacks. I may switch to sword if I ever find a better one than the axe I have.
Fire is working but hmm....I really have been thinking about going the water route.....

If you are thinking of tanking in PvE...then I suggest Cyclone Axe + Conjure. You can't believe how much damage and adrenaline you can rack up with that. And since you are taking, then close-range spells like Inferno might be useful too.

I have a level 20 W/El who is 2 missions away from beating the game. In PvE, I usually go the damage way, with a sword, battle rage, and the sever artery/gash/galrath slash/final thrust line. With a fire weapon and conjur flame, monsters drop quick. Plus, battle rage recharges itself, so I can kill things before they kill me. I'm enjoying it greatly. I'm useing a 12 strength, 11 swordsmanship, and 11 fire (with minor runes for strength and swordsmanship). I also have a major vigor and major absorbtion. It works fairly well, as long as there is one monk to heal me if I'm about to die.

You can try hammers with w/mo. Holy Strike. Unlike Aftershock which is resisted by armor, Holy Strike isn't. And it's a LOT more energy friendly and gives you the defensive capability that is Smite Hex....
