Smite Run Tank and Solo Farmer from a monk
alright first time on these forums, hey wassup. Figured I would share with everyone my recently worked out template for farming solo and tanking smite runs in the underworld.
My character is a Monk, i dont use any secondary class skills for doing either of my activities.
The Smite Tank: when I do smite runs I usually take 1-3 elementalists and myself, I tank and they rape the mobs. Basically I exploit the spell called Protective bond and here's how.
Buy yourself a suit of junk armor(cheap stuff from ascalon) and equip 4 of the different superior runes but do not equip any vigor runes. The idea is to drop your hps down to 180.
Protective Bond makes it so you only take 5% dmg a hit so mobs will only hurt you for 9 dmg.
Now in order to make bond work right you need 14 ranks in protection to get it to the point where it only drains 2 mana on yourself a hit. Then you follow that enchantment up with Balthazars Spirit and Essence Bond so you gain 2 energy a hit /yay. Now that you have damage dealt to you absolutley minimized, you have to figure out the best way to heal yourself and Here are all 8 spells that I use.
Protective Bond
Balthazars Spirit
Essence Bond
Blessed Aura
Blessed Signet
Healing Hands
Healing Breeze
Signet of Devotion
14 Protection spells
14 Divine Favor
i dunno 13 or something Healing prayers
Blessed Aura increases my enchantment duration by 33% and I also wield an Axe that increases my enchantment duration by 18% so with a 50% boon to my enchantments, Healing hands and Healing breeze last 15 seconds. I take 9 dmg a hit and hands heals me for 22 dmg a hit so easy to tank, breeze can easily regen 9 dmg hits also. blessed signet can easily provide you with the energy needed for casting these two spells.
Walla now you got a tank that can take on Smite runs in the underworld. I do not reccomend usin this template on mobs that dispell enchantments as that sux...
Now for my Soloing template:
I normally solo the hydras north of Augury Rock with my pure monk. Level 22 mobs give ya 136 xp a kill (that adds up) and drop ya some nice loots.
I usually kill hydras in sets of 2 or 3, i'll pull solo hydras into other hydras.
Wear junk armor with 4 superior runes equipped to drop your hps to 180.
like 13 smiting spells
14 protection spells
14 divine favor
Protective Bond
Balthazars Spirit
Essence Bond
Zealots Fire
Blessed Signet
Shield of Judgment
Symbol of Wrath
Signet of Devotion
My zealots fire plugs the hydras for 30 dmg everytime i cast anything, should be 40 dmg but they have fire resistance, 30 adds up fine though, Symbol of wrath is doin a 29 point aoe plus the 30 from zealot, Shield of judgement is poppin em for 44 dmg. This dmg adds up fast and i can kill a group of 3 hydras within 15-20 seconds.
The trick with hydras is kiting them while they blow off their meteors that knock you down, trying to cast a fast spell like zealots fire in between meteors for quick life boost from your divine favor. once all the hydras have blown their meteor you just charge into em and start castin aoes and spammin your signet of devotion, then pickup your phat lewts and find another group of hydras.
You'll have to practice some with these templats but you'll figure em out and they can be quite lucrative.
Wonder how long it will be before they nerf protective bond or somethin, but until then my monk is gonna use the heck out of it.
Hope some of you can make use of this.
copied this from another forum to here, i felt like sharing on this website too heh...

Nice build. I'd been considering something like this, but can't get my hands on the superiors to make it work. I don't think protective bond should be nerfed, as you're not really exploiting it, just using it in a clever way.

As someone who regularly heads down there solo myself, I wonder if we as a community could resist the urge to post specifics about solo builds. I think it's great to discuss things in general terms, share glories and failures, and strategize about different approaches. But, as it applies to PvE and solo/pharming different areas, I kinda wish people could contain their enthusiam about listing specific skills, sequences, locations, etc.
My concern is that I'll head down there one of these nights for a run and anet will have mindblades spawn near the teleportation dais to combat the "exploit" of solo monk farming in the UW.
Particularly when you actually refer to "exploiting" the enchants.
There's not much left for us to run solo anymore that is challenging and rewarding, except the UW. I'd rather not lose that too.
Congrats though, on finding effective builds that work well for you and your group. And welcome to the boards....I don't mean to single you out, it's just that this is the lastest in the line of these kinds of threads, and I think it's more than just coincidence that the areas and builds mentioned therein seemed to be.......adjusted......after everyone and their dog knows about them and runs them.

I do not like sharring my loot when I am farming so I have come up with a very bnice build for farming trolls.
Now trolls do not drop runes, but they do drop a lot of weapons and dye(got 2 black dye in about 15 runs last night). Though the main reason I farm them is for the incredible amount of experience they yeild. You can get about 2-3 skill points in an hour and make about 5 plat while doing it, more if you get lucky with a nice drop like black dye.
Anyway my build is as follows, 16 smite, 14 prot though if I could take my prot rune out I would for the extra life.
Skills are as follows:
Mark of Protection(CRUCIAL, all my builds failed until I loaded this baby)
Balz Aura
Symbol of Wrath
Divine Boon
Zealots Fire
Essence Bond
Balz Spirit
Sprint
Battle is as follows, leave droknar and head due west, there will be one group of aviacara(spelling?) and that will bring you to an ice cave. Then run straight into all the mountain trolls there gathering them all around you. You can get about 10-15 to chase you. THe first spell you cast is Mark of Protection. You are now invulnerable for 10 seconds.
Cast balz aura and symbol of wrath then start clicking divine boon as fast as you can. You have 10-15 trolls hitting you and you gain 2 energy each time a blow lands so you will have limitless energy.
The only time I ever die is when I forget to cast zealots before the fight. Just so you know Mark of Protection will end before the fight is over so if you have not been clicking furiously on divine boon so they drop fast they will kill you.
Today I am going to go buy a +enchant duration for my staff which should make up for some human error but it is doable without any of those fancy mods.

ah cool meeker, i hadnt considered combo like that before with the fast casting divine boon. i might check it out more when i get bored with what i got going on now.
yea sleazeh, i considered not posting just for the fact that i could use these tricks before some kinda nerf comes in but i just dont care, i actually like a standard group setup more. besides i was doing smite runs and people were finding out my template anyway.
if they made protective bond so it can only be cast on target "other" ally...that would change it up heh

you can set prot with a 20% chance idol to 17, causing you to only lose 1 energy each time you are hit, and balths spirit cancels that out. Then cast mending with healing like 14 or something, to get +4 regen. Then just sit there and slowly smite them to death.

I'm sure that we'll all fall right in line with your obvious selfishness concerning build posting. I, for one, will immediately stop posting my really good non-exploit builds. Sorry folks, blame sleazeh.
