doesnt protective spirit only work against 1 attacker and his/her/its skill set at a time or does it defend against multiple things at the same time

Say 4 people attack a character (with 100 health and protective spirit on) for 100 damage each (before spirit) and all 4 attacks hit at the exact same time. The attacked player would take 40 damage as protective spirit lowers each attack to 10% max not lowering the 400 to 10% max but lowering 100(.10)+100(.10)+100(.10)+100(.10)=10+10+10+10=40 total damage to you

Protective Spirit is a nice skill but it's not essential for farming.
I'm a damn good monk-farmer myself and none of my builds relies on this skill.
If I'm facing hard-hitters (e.g. farming UW solo) - I'll use Protective Bond which is much more effective and keep the energy up in one of several ways.
If I'm farming other areas (e.g. Desert Griffins or Nebo Terrace Undead) I don't even need protection skills at all - but mainly use Smite and Divine Favor skills.

the armor is important, without it you cannot add the super runes to bring down your health, and without bringing down your health, that makes the 2 skills useless, and altho everyone keeps saying solo solo solo , its good to bring another monk as backup just in case, i like it better with a 2 monk uw team rather than solo it myself. If globs and other items of the same kind drop we usually split'em, and doing solo so many times gets boring.
