Decent Ranger Build (Rate it please)
Alright here it is
Expertise 10 +2 rune
Wilderness survival 10 +1 rune
Marksmanship 10 +1 mask +1 rune
Illusion magic 5
Skills:
Distracting shot
Troll unguent
Concussion shot
Hunters shot
Poison Arrow [E]
Pin down
Conjure Phantasm
Whirling Defense (Can replace with Arcane Conundrum)
How its used:
Well I started this off as an interrupt ranger. But I noticed that whenever I dazed someone with concussion shot, they always ran, and it really annoyed me. So I have made this build all about catching dazed runners. After interrupting them with concussion shot, they should start running away. Use pin down on them, then hunters shot, followed by poison arrow and conjure phantasm. You should now have their health going down at a steady rate. Just continue to fire at them, interrupting their spells. Repeat above skills when necessary.
Bow I used: Short Bow (15%/over50)
Armour: Whatever you like the best.

this build is decent..... how do i know that? Because theres 600 rangers running around with a build similar to that. Which must mean its fairly decent. Honestly though, lets see some original stuff eh?

Well it works.. Concussion shot is one of the best skills in the game IMO. Add pin down, hunter's shot and conjure phantasm and you've got a player who cant move fast, takes 3x longer to cast anything, has massive degen and is interupted by almost every attack.
in a 4v4 arena with only one monk, he's dead.
In tombs.. not so useful, another monk would have mend ailment and he'd be fine.
I dont like poison arrow though.. there are better ranger elites.

Well I was going for something original, as far as I'v seen, no one else has run this build. Sure there has been conjure phantasms/ poison arrow as a very common combo, but never in an interrupt build have I seen them.
And what would I exchange for poison arrow? Maybe incindiary arrows? Hmm. Give me your thoughts on improvements.

Tiger's fury? Who needs it. As far as i'm concerned its a worthless skill in this build. If anything, you could put lightning reflexes in for Whirling defense, but tiger's fury isnt all as cracked up as its supposed to be. I'd only see that in a R/W or quickshot build.

First and foremost, I assume you are doing PvP.
That being said, are you one of those Rangers who refuse to bring a Res Signet? Please, in any general non-specialized form of PvP, bring the Res Sig. It's one of the biggest difference makers in Arena type battles.
IMO, Troll is the worthless skill. Sure in random arena, everyone is looking to stay alive just a bit longer, but your 3 sec cast time for a Troll waves a flag saying to every other Ranger, "please interrupt me". But I get it...you're Whirling Defense is suppossed to save your butt...but guess what, you just dedicated two skills on your bar to saving yourself instead of focusing on what you're suppossed to do, damage/interrupt & energy denial and general pressure and applied annoyances to soft targets.
Lightning Reflexes? Have you heard of 60 sec recharge time? IIRC, with a Beast Maserty of 8, Tiger Fury allows only a downtime of 2 secs without being in a stance of higher attack rate. This means you are shooting arrows with your shortbow at a rate close to Swords and Axes for an extended period of time (I don't know the exact numbers).
Lastly, you need to adjust your Expertise level. Just based off of the skills you listed, having Expertise at 13 would directly benefit the following skills: Distracting Shot, Troll, Concussion, Hunter's, Poison Arrow, and Pin Down. Having Expertise at 14 would directly benefit the following skils: All the Ranger skills you have listed. Thus, the recommended breakpoints for Expertise are 13 and 14 for most Rangers, including yours.
Hope this helps you.

Hmm. I can see what your saying, but why not just use serpents quickness?
And I have almost never been interrupted when casting troll unguent, and it saves me in random arenas without monks, so thats why I use it. Also, I've almost always only had to use whirling defense once. It lasts long enough to kill the person on me, and the recharge doesn't matter, I rarely get attacked by more than one person.

Some thoughts...
First and foremost, Major Runes as has been stated before are a waste.
Minor or Superior is the way to go.
Secondy, Tigers Fury is going to be your friend.
I have played random 4 vs. 4 maps and you know who caused me the most grief?
The ranger sitting back and watching me try and use Healing Signet, popped me everytime I tried to use it.
Which means one thing, I died in vain trying to keep my little self alive while he probably laughed a good jolly laugh at my expense.
One ranger shut our warriors down just by being mindful of what they were doing, switching targets when needed etc.
As far as Troll goes, it takes to long and only really works if you can run, run, run away. By then they'll most likely have rezed a friend or two and your hosed.
As far as Elites are concerned...
You'd be better of using Punishing Shot or maybe Quick Shot.
If you want to really put a hurting on folks with Enchantments...Melandru's Arrows is nasty that way.
Best of luck.

MA is a seriously good spell since most builds are running some sort of enchantments so you'll see that extra damage most of the time.
