Default What is better for PVP R/E or R/Mo?

Hello,

I started a Ranger Monk Cause I thought that Might be good for PVp. That is what I am aming for is PVP and not soo much PVE...

I think monk might be good because of the healing abilities which would make me last longer and they also have some decent damage spells I think... going to put most my atributes in healing and Smite (?) and Marksmanship and expertise.

I was going to go with Ranger elemental which I am sure has more damge but... without any healing ability and being kinda soft I figured you wouldnt last to long on the battle field.

But reading the forum there seems to be a luke warm review of the build and I am getting mixed messages about it.

the R/e build seems more popular for sure...

Anyone help me out on this?

I have a r/monk and i can tell you that you won't be useing the monk skills in pvp at all, except maybe mend ailment to get rid of blindness but that's it. The protections are fun for when you're going through the pve though and you can always change your secondary to elementalist later and buy the 1 or 2 elementalist skills that you'll use in pvp.

R/Elementalist helps you add more damage in pvp but i don't like it that much... I prefer R/Mesmer. This way you can use conjure phantasm with poison or bleeding, or arcane conundrum or other mesmer skills that are very usefull.

Anyway, I think you should go r/mesmer for pvp. If you later change to elementalist, you won't have to buy too many skills. If you start as ele and change to mesmer there will probably be more skills that you need to buy.

Oh if you end up going monk (the pve is more fun this way) don't expect to use the healing spells much..use protections.

Well it seems that Rangers have a decent amount of healing spells on their own. So combining that with with the extra damage from a elementalist sounds good..

I don't want to be a mesmer.. Im prejudice against them.. I think they are dorky.

Oh I dont know... I am confused... I CAN switch to Ele later in the game if I dont liek the monk route?

That is awesome.. Now I don't feel stuck... I can try this out for awhile ... and if it sucks I might try the elementalist.

You really should be a R/Me. You can be a trapper or a spiker, and most groups dont take them unless they're R/Me, being a R/Me will make your life easier. Mesmers also have Mantra of Persistance.

Mantra of Resolve, Persistance is for Illusion Hex duration, not worthy of a Ranger skill slot.

Whats so great about mesmers? besides looking dorky? aren't they more the DOT char? I DO NOT WANT To go into DOT type damage. I hate DOT's...

I want a decent amount of upfront damage with some survivability (not dieing to fast on the battlefield) abilities... and ideally some AOE ... And I Think Monk have aoes dont they?

I know Ele does. Which is what I like about them...

But I dont WANT DOTS! I have a warlock on WOW.. and It has turned me off completely....

Having an all around perfect character is impossible. You'll need to accept specialization.

Rangers have good armor; using monk spells to heal yourself is a waste in pvp. Trust your team's monks to be able to keep you alive, especially since you aren't a priority target.

A ranger's aoe is mostly limited to barrage. Expertise will not reduce the cost of elementalist aoe spells, so they are too energy intensive to be viable. When people use R/e, its mostly for conjures though there are other uses.

You'll get much more effective self healing by investing in wilderness survival, but then again, self-healing in pvp is usually a waste of a slot unless you're running a monkless build. As a r/mo, I would advise you to invest in smiting. JI is a good skill for most builds, unless you're running order necros (which is fairly common).

Just play around to find what you want. As you get more experienced, you'll probably laugh at what you once expected from one character :P
