Default I got bored with my ele so Im gonna make a ranger. Help

Ok He's gonna have a pet so beast mastery is gonna be one of my top skills Im going to invest in. So should I just invest in beast mastery and marksmanship? or is expertise worth it? thanks in advance. oh and this is my first ranger.

You don't have a lot of energy with a ranger. Expertise will lower the cost of your skills.

If you said you want a pet, you will have to spend your points in at least 3 attributes, BeastMastery, Marksmanship and Expertise.

IMO, i would forget about the pet and max Marksmanship and spread evenly in Expertise and Wilderness. It's what I did with my ranger, I didn't love playing with a pet.

This will help you decide...

Also, there are some nice skills with Expertise.

Currently, my Ranger is balanced with Expertise, Beast Mastery and Markmanship (but I'm still low level, so....)

(I like my pet. She's a Warthog from Pre, named "Miss Piggy" )

My first charac was a ranger and I'ts my favourite charac. It's just so nice how a ranger shoots.

Well, what I really want to say is that you don't need so much beastmastery. I know pets are fun, but to be a tamer, well I think is boring and it's not strong. It's fun to have a pet though.
This is what I reccomend:

Beast: 7+1
Exp: 10+1
Wil: 9+4
Mark: 10+1

This is what I use It's good enough, but you need a req 9 (or less) bow with this build.
Good luck with your ranger.

Greetings,
Hendorr

my first char was a ranger and so far is the only pve char i kept.... rest three are pvp now..... but yea
if i were you... play the game thru with marks, wilder, exper... then when you have all 200 att points start on the beast... cause pets are really usuless at low lvls in beast and they die realy fast... all youre gonna be doing is casting comfort animal the whole time, while sucking away all your energy

Expertise is one of the best attributes in the game.

You need at least 12 in BM to make your pet worthwhile. You are not going to have a lot of skill slots left since you need to bring Charm, Comfort Animal and probably Rez Sig if you do PvP a lot.

Ferocious Strike helps you leech energy so you don't need that many points in Energy Storage.

You need to choose an element that fits Beast Mastery. For PvE, Immolate/Fireball fits really well. I used to use Fireball + Firestorm but Firestorm is weird against monsters now.

If you go for Earth, Ward is ALWAYS great no matter where you go. You can go for Stone Dagger + Ward Against Melee. The good thing about pet attack skill is that they don't interrupt what you are doing. You can cast pet attack skill while casting a spell.

The pet skills that are great:
Predator's Pounce for PvE (excellent!)
Disrupting Lunge for PvP and PvE
Ferocious Strike
Feral Lunge (it's good but the bleeding effect is almost not noticable later on in the game)
Call of Haste
Call of Protection

He probably meant Expertise. Anyway, to all you people that think pets suck, go learn how to play.

You can easily use both a bow and your pet for very high damage.

9+3 Beast Mastery
9+1 Expertise
8+1 Wilderness
10+1+1 Marksman

Ferocious Strike {E}
Troll Unguent
Open Skill Slot - Res, Comfort, Feral Lunge/Predator's Pounce
Tiger's Fury
Dual Shot
Kindle Arrows
Charm Animal
Penetrating Shot

With 12 in beast mastery and 12 in marksman, you're essentually doing 2x the damage of a regular character. The only weakness is that target switching quickly, like a QS build can do, often isn't possible.

Jesh' build looks good to me, It's true what he sais, I also got a monk and he uses a pet too. He has got 12 BM and does dubble dmg, so you can have a pet, but you have to devote a skillbar to it.
You can't do much with your 2nd prof anymore. Thats the only problem.

P.S. think carefully which pet you want, cause changing it is crappy, it has to lvl up all again.

Well, unless he ends up grabbing the spider out of the Underworld.

Anyways, these guys are mostly right. Beastmasters can work quite well later on, but you'll be abandoning your secondary profession and at least half your skill bar to do it. The only time a Beastmaster goes without a pet res spell is when he's playing 4v4. Otherwise, bring it. Leaving the pet laying on the ground will cripple even more skill slots that bringing the pet and pet res with will, since your beast attacks are now worthless as well as your Charm and Comfort/Revive.

Also, Monks hate healing pets. You'll be standing away from the enemy (I recommend a Longbow-family weapon for Beastmasters) and hopefully if you devote a slot to Predator's Pounce or something similar, the Monk will agree to, at the least, heal you.

You can easily expect to spend half your attribute points and more than half your skill bar into Beast Mastery in order to make it truly effective, but paring down to BM, Tiger's Fury, and your choice of bow damage skills can easily net you a great deal of damage.

Just don't expect to be able to do anything BUT damage...:-P

We all know the statistics; but that build you posted is easily flanked and killed, even in the RAs. Also, you're not maximizing high beast mastery. If you added call of haste, you'd be doing much more damage than dual shot/penetrating shot every few seconds.

Btw, someone should post a trap build. More party friendly than a BM build, in my opinion, and the thread-maker is only beggining a ranger. For PvE.
