The bows stack up like this:
Horn/Ivory/Shadow = 2.7 refire rate , 142 feet range and 10% armor penitration
Longbow/Stormbow = 2.5 refire rate, 167 feet range
Composite/Recurve/External/Dead = 2.5 refire rate, 142 feet range
Flatbow = 2.0 refire rate, 167 feet range
Shortbow/Half Moon = 2.0 refire rate , 112 feet range
I don't know flight time info off the top of my head but the lower arc makes the composite/recurve family of bows most accurate)

I use a shortbow for DPS because of refire rate (high arc just bothers the hell outta me, sorta an aesthetic thing I guess, and since I don't always want RtW as my preparation I use a short instead of a flat).
The recurve is the best for interrupting because it has the shortest flight time. When I'm focused on interrupting, I bring my recurve, use RtW, and stay close if I can. Flight time is practically nil.
I keep a longbow around for pulling or nailing stuff from above that can't get to me, but other than that I stick to my short and recurve.
Hornbow has an advantage for spike because with Punishing Shot the refire rate is fixed to .5sec and it has more dmg, but that's the only reason to use it.

The hornbow also has less attack rate; when totaled, it will do less damage than a short bow over a short period of time. Please research before preaching.

Regardless as to what the numbers say, I prefer my Ivory Stinger to most of the other bows I've had: As an avid Tiger's Fury user, the refire rate doesn't bother me much and I dislike the high arc of flatbows. Range isn't really a problem, I have a collector's flatbow for that, but I normally only use it when pulling. Using a build specifically set up to maximize single shot damage, the 10% armor penetration combined with, say, Tiger's Fury, Kindle Arrows, and a good round of Penetrating Shot and Dual Shot, the 10% works wonders.I've tried Shortbows and Half Moons: I like them, they do fire quickly, but they always seemed to get me in the middle of everything and I don't like the looks. Longbows work fine, Flatbows, regardless as to what the numbers say, have never worked well for me (I don't know why) and my Recurve bow is a great all-around.
That's my take on it, anyway.

I only use a Flatbow with Favorable winds and Quick Shot, reducing the arch to that of a normal longbow with the speed of a shortbow. There is no reason to use it outside of that purpose, as it will miss strafing targets with ease.
And, I don't know what type of bow the Stinger is, but if it's a Horn, it'll still be weaker than yonder shortbow.

And, again, I don't know what specs ivory bows have, but they're one of the cosmetic bows and therefore have the same specs as a type of plain bow.

Does the Hornbow really have +10% armor penetration ? I'm having trouble noticing any difference. 10% penetration is a lot but I seen to be doing the same amount of damage as any other bow type. Has this been tested ? And if so, could someone please provide a link to any data that's been recorded about bow damage.

Ivory bow has the same specs as horn bow. The Stinger makes no sense to me... it's a Poisoner's Ivory Bow of Marksmanship, but why in the world would you use an Ivory bow to do poisoning?! I'd want max possible refire rate if I'm doing poison, not armor penetration...

Why? A single Poison Arrow, at high enough levels can last for 15 seconds. Ye only need to land a single hit. Still, Poisoners doesn't indeed make much sense to me.
If pulling, Longbow. If interupting, Recurve. if most anything else, Shortbow. Horn-types are for those guys using Judge's Insight, Kindle Arrows, Dual Shot, and Punishing Shot. All together, with a Horn';s extra penetration, that is a LOT of damage, but the slow refire rate kills it for extended fighting. It's a spike bow, little more.

Which is why I like it. ^_^ Don't forget Penetrating Shot, either.
