Default mo/w, can it work?

My third pve character has to be a monk and warrior to cover all 6 professions, but i refuse to be the cliche w/mo. Ive been reading and it seems that mo/w's are VERY unpopular, or anything */w for that matter.

Saying I have no choice but to use mo/w or w/mo (ugh), what are some ways to make the mo/w work?

Smiting, axe - This is what i would like to do but im concerned w/ my armor, using offensive enchants and close-range aoe

protection, tactics - would this work?

Sry if i sound like an idiot, I'm not a big fan of mo's or w's but i need one for the skills

Mo/W can work, mostly because there are some great pure Monk builds available, so your secondary becomes obsolete.

My main is a Mo/W, which worked very well right up until Crystal Desert. After that, I was spending too much time healing for the /W bit to be worthwhile.

Anyway, the best thing to do is decide whether you want a Warrior or a Monk, then blast your way through with whichever primary until you have the skills you need, then switch to the secondary you really want. That, or switch the secondary on one of your other characters to Mo or W.

I assume you want to do this for PvE mainly? [unlocking skills etc]

A Mo/W will not be able to do damage AND do what monks do [protect/heal the rest of the party]. With henchies you will probably have to take another monk [alesia] to do the healing, as you will be meleeing/tanking ?

So what it comes down to, is that imho you probably are better off smiting than meleeing with an axe :P I would probably only use skills like SPRINT [to run away] from the warrior line and not really try to melee, because monks do not tank well in PvE. I also tend to avoid any skill with "Enchantment" in their description because i cant even keep Mending on myself for 2 seconds before some mob rips it off [so depending on enchantments to "tank" will not be easy at all].


So iimho i dont think it matters what your secondary is if you are Monk prime. So for the sake of unlocking skills id think its actually -ideal- to smack some class onto your monk [any class] just for that reason. You are usually very gimped if you spend points on your secondary if you are trying to be a real monk.

I've experimented with Mo/W's since I made one a while ago, but it's been going slow as I can't get everyting all at once anymore. I use tactics and smiting together to give myself enough defense to tank while still putting out some good attack power. It works well for the arenas because half the peopel there are W/Mo's that don't know the meaning of "Don't stand in the Symbol of Wrath + Balthazar's Aura + Shield of Judgement, you idiots!"

Mo/W is the most enjoyable combination of professions I have played so far. I was able to solo nearly every quest and mission up to the cold areas with my Mo/W. The skill sets complement each other very, very well (Bonetti's is almost always on my skill bar). Now that I'm in the higher level areas, I can still clear many of the quests and missions with only the warrior henchies. If you use the right scalp design combo, find a nice 8 or 7 req sword/axe, a good 4 tactics shield, etc., you can heal and semi-tank your way through a lot of areas either solo or with minimal henchie support. Don't worry about the /W hating that goes on. Most of the time, it's based on someone who is a warrior secondary but thinks they can tank like a primary. That shouldn't damn everyone who strategically uses the /W skills to round out their skill bar. Good luck with your new char!

My favourite character right now is my Mo/W.
He's level 13 and in the Crystal Desert. haha
PLing him was so easy, but now that I'm in the crystal desert, as Myodato explained, I find I'm more of a healer than anything else. I decided to be a monk/warrior because of two drops I got in the desert with other characters: a purple Gladius, 15-21 damage 7 swordsmanship required, and a divine symbol, energy +11 (7 divine favour required), and +21 hp while Enchanted.
So, naturally, I go Monk for divine favour, warrior for swordsmanship. And I'm happy I did. It's a great build.
Even in PVP the build proves itself. Unless I get outnumbered and outgunned I'm fine.
I went toe to toe with a W/Mo for five minutes before we both said screw it, neither of us had gone below 90% health all fight... mostly because I've got all healing monk spells (and Divine Boon, my divine favour req ENCHANTMENT). Had I stocked up on some smiting as well I would have won.

Nevertheless, it can handle itself in almost any situation.
And I'm sure if I were level 20 in the crystal desert I wouldn't be healing myself so much lol.

Mine too. I made a Mo/W as my final character run through the PvE missions, and if it hadn't been my third (*grumbles*) time through, it would have been very fun... It was, at least, better than the second.

The problem you face as a monk primary is that you are a high priority target. The great thing about smiters is that they can use it as a trap and spring it against opponents. Just make sure you know how to stay alive - easier said than done.

I thought being a monk with warrior secondary would be cool... but I just ended up healing and crap.

I used sprint to drop agro when mobs went nuts on me. Then I deleted the char at 16
