Many, Many different routs..
Well, That's a very valid and understandable dilemma. Smiting monks are quite rare (well, the good ones are anyway). but most of the time, the best kind of smite is the Aoe smites. i can go in depth explaining that if you want later. but since the AOE are very good, you need to be right up nxt to the enemy already. so the logical seocndary class to go is...: yup, the warrior. so yo can deal even MORE damage. maybe using hamtring so they can't run from your smites. but, lot's of smiters go into entire monk smiting groups. which means 8 monks. most likely 4 or 5 smiter monks. and a very good kill to carry with that group is frozen soil. you could possibly go monk/ranger for the frozen soil. and only for that. since most other spirits can really hurt a smiting group hard. You of course can go other routes, bu these in my opinion make for the most efficient Smiters.
Any Questions?

Mo/Me. Since you'll be using PBAoE spells like Balthazar's Aura and Symbol of Wrath, Channeling will give you lots of mana. Plus, the energy stealing skills are helpful.
Mo/N and Mo/E would work too. Mo/N would give you Putrid Explosion, life stealing, and some good debuffs. Mo/E would give you more PBAoE spells .

Mo/Me is the way to go. I posted a quite detailed mo/me smiter build not too long ago, use the search.

I wouldn't know since i have never played a smiter monk. But Mo/E sounds nice if you do air magic and one or two earth magic skills for armor buffs. Or you could do E/Mo Using air magic, and smiting to give you a great offense.

For PvE I'd do Mo/W. For PvP I'd do Mo/Me.
You know what? Just do Mo/Me. Mesmer really is an awesome primary or secondary. It doesn't get the cool points a necro does. It isn't blatant like an ele, and it isn't in your face like a warrior, but Mesmers can win the battle PvE or PvP behind the scenes quite often.
