Default Pure Earth PBAoE

Glyph of Sacrifice

Ward Against Melee

Obsidian Flame

Kinetic Armor

Earthquake

Crystal Wave

Aftershock

Earth Attunement

Basically try to run up and be near as many players/monsters as possible, and do some quick AoE damage. Glyph of Sacrifice is for a quick Earthquake.

I suppose I would only put points into Earth and Energy Storage.

I did not include an elite because as far as I know they are hard to find.

Any suggestions?

is that your only strategy? Run up use glyph of energy and earthquake?

...

more please sir. It actually looks good but its a basic earth build so why wouldn't it?

Earth is the most supportive elementalists type so you better have at least 2 warriors in your party for any really effective earth build.

The best strat I can see here is for a massive amount of damage by:

Wait for enemies to congregate around your allied warriors, run in with earth attunement on, use glyph of sacrifice, earth quake, aftershock, and crystal wave. meaning you'll be doing about 308 dmg to anyone you knock down with earthquake but you'll be getting rid of all the negative effects your teammates put on them.

Kinetic armor is good especially against warriors but I dont like Ward Against Melee, thats imo though.

This is a good build for quick, heavy dmg but look at your skills. What are you going to use that is going to renew kinetic armor. Are you going to be in the middle of everyone the whole time cause trust me, no matter how much extra armor you put on, that is not going to be enough as an elementalist.

Obsidian Flame is not the best skill. Exhaustion = mega bad for elementalists. I dont use anything that causes exhaustion at all cause its stupid. Its a good skill though: 94 dmg ignores armor with a 5 energy cost/2 second cast time/5 second recharge time. That doesn't sound bad at all. But the 5 energy cost is deceptive since you lose like 10 energy for every time you become exhausted I think. You need a reliable skill that does a moderate amount of damage but doesn't deplete your energy or put any negative effects on you(coughcoughexhaustioncoughcough)

As long as you can keep Earth Attunement up, I would think that stoning is your best choice in replacement for obsidian flame. However, if you are really into the PBAoE, then eruption is a good substitute for crystal wave cause chances are if you just knocked them down and did a good aftershock on them, they'll be pissed and try to kill you, so spend the 3 seconds to do eruption, hoping your monk keeps you alive long enough, wait for the 5 secons of 28 dmg to end and they'll be blind, meaning they'll only hit you 1/10 times. This gives you a chance to regain some hp.

And my last suggestion, replace Ward Against Melee with either:

Ward Against Foes- (which makes enemies 50% slower and thus harder to get away from your Eruption)

Obsidian Flesh- (elite skill, they arent that hard to find if you know where to look. But this protects you moderately from physical dmg [+20 armor] and cant be targeted by spells for 18 seconds) This is perfect for that time that you want to run in and destroy the nearby enemies. Cause all those elementalists that are trying to get you with their pesky fire spells (lol thats me) will be dumbfounded when it doesnt do anything. And 18 seconds is plenty of time to get away. However, if you put this in, you wont be able to help out ur team that much.

or

Magnetic Aura- basically, this is the opposite of obsidian flesh. If you are more worried about being destroyed by the warriors as you run in there, use this before you go, it should give you just enough time to use your 3 spells and laugh at them as they are either really hurt or blind and you run away merrily to let your teammates finish them off.

Well, those are my suggestions.

Switching from pyro to geo for a change of pace, a modfied build of above plus post may be:

1. Glyph of Sacrifice
2. Ward Against Foe's
3. Stoning (or Obsidian Flame)
4. Obsidian Flesh (Elite)
5. Earthquake
6. Eruption
7. After Shock
8. Earth Attunement

Idea (untested)
(Earth Attunement Up) -> Glyph of Sacrifice -> Earth Quake -> After Shock -> Ward Against Foe's -> Eruption

Obsidian Flesh if being targeted / (Stonening / Obsidian Flame [depending on feeling about exhaustion) away from close area assuming after you unloaded.

Obsidian flame does a *lot* more then 94 damage. As for exhaustion, it's the price for massive spike damage. 1v1 a good air ele -you'll be dead, they'll have 20 less max energy.

Do E/Mo, and put in balthazars aura. That why, you'll be doing even more damage while your up-close to your enemies. I'm sure you can find a skill slot to spare.

The whole point is to get enemies to stay in one spot so you can get off earthquake+aftershock. If you can somehow make that happen, then you've got a good build.

As an Ele(elite), you should have enoough energy with Staff + Storage that exhaustion from using 1 spell matters about as much to me as the damage a pre-searing skale could do.

Earth build as a solo PvE, isn't the best route for an Ele -IMO because as stated previously it won't add enough armour to you to sustain much melee damage. For groups it is helpful for the Warriors who will be in close quarters and the added def + slowing mobs or reducing their accuracy helps.
Earth is more helpful in PvE grouping that PvP, as an Ele in PvP doesn't really want to get THAT close to melee mobs ;-), so try Air or Fire for that.

If there scattered maybe hang back by the monk(s) and unload on anyone / group starting to charge the monk?

Very new to earth spells. Currently my sub is Messner but I can change that.

In Pvp (mostly PvE to date) should I be going for a more protection earth elem route then direct damage?

Only protection you need is wards. Ward against foes is actually useful for pvp, because earthquake+aftershock gives opponents time to run out of the aftershock range. Great protection monks are Elementalist/monks (or in reverse) they're pure protection.

if you use crystal wave, its aching for someone else to be using fragility and epidemic. just think... a warrior uses sever artery and gash on a mob. the mesmer has used fragility, then uses epidemic. Thats a lot of damage. The elementalist uses crystal wave. they do all the wave damage and the fragility is triggered for every condition. It's a ridiculous amount of spike damage in AoE, and is funny to watch chunks of HP just disappear.
