Default Ranger\X?

Well obv im a ranger *points at name* i've been having trouble trying to find a suitable build that works well...

Basically im Asking for a good build that works well against any class....i would like to be able to fend off warriors and take down casterS(a bit over-hopeful, i know)

WAS Thinking about a strange build

R\Mo, using Judge's Insight and Machine gun like firing with Quick shot, Tiger's Fury, and all that fun stuff...

if any1 can reccomend a build that works VERY WELL id be very grateful

I have a ranger and I took necro as a secondary prof. I use curses (mark of pain, shadow of fear) for crowd control. it works quite well...mark of pain deals dmg to people near the target and shadow of fear slows down their attack rate, great for those times when ur tanks are getting overwhelmed

tigers fury much better than quick shot in my opinion.

i currently have a r/n, but i rarely use any of the necro skills so i'll probably change to r/e or r/mo.

there are barragebot builds that focus on most marksmanship skills or trapper builders. a lot of people go R/E for using conjure skills for damage. it all really depends on your still of play. you can deal damage or you can deal conditions such as cripped, bleeding, blindness, etc.

the good thing about this game is that most class combos can be countered if played right.

Can any1 actually post a good build of theres for pvp\pve pref pvp ^_^

I also like to play the fast machine-gun guys that deal off preparations...sooo a THOUGHT of mine was gonna be:

Distracting Shot
Quick Shot{E}
Quickening Zephyr
Tiger's Fury
Whirling Defence
Troll Ungent
Rez Signet
----------

Or a Trapper:

Distracting shot
Oath shot{E}
Savage Shot
Stormchaser
Barbed Trap
Flame Trap/rez signet
Whirling Def
Troll Ungent

I would 'like' to join up a quickdraw\trapper for a lot of Damage output but all help is VERY appreciated cause currently i sorta suck in pvp

R/W sword users are pretty good, with a focus on the energy using sword skills (affected by expertise), traps, and apply poison.

Spend points in expertise, wilderness survival, and swordsmanship.

More generally, if you wanna be useful against warriors, make sure to bring a cripple skill, in fact, no matter what, bring a cripple skill. It's practically expected from a ranger. If you wanna kill casters, concussion shot is great, along with a very high expertise.

Here's the build I've been running lately on my ranger, and I absolutely love it in the Competition Arenas:

R/anything
Expertise: 11+1+2
Marksmanship: 10+1
Wilderness Survival: 8+1
Beast Mastery: 6+1

Expertise: 11 + 1 + 2
Marksmanship: 10+1
Wilderness Survival: 8+1
Beast Mastery: 6+1

Equipment:
Runes: Major Expertise, Minor Marksmanship, Minor Wilderness Survival, Minor Beast Mastery
Mask: Hunter's Mask (+1 to Expertise)
Armor set: Preferrably Druid's, but not required
Weapon: Shortbow/Half-moon (with a Zealous string if you want more energy gain)

Punishing Shot {E}
Kindle/Ignite Arrows
Distracting Shot
Tiger's Fury
Whirling Defense
Pin Down*
Troll Unguent
Resurrection Signet

*Keep a bow with at least an 80 meter range on switch for pinning down a chasing enemy warrior or a running caster.

Kindle Arrows adds around 16 damage to each arrow, which adds up very quickly when you throw in the occasional bonus damage from Punishing Shot and the rapid speed of your attacks. The only setup that shoots faster than TF using a shortbow/halfmoon is a Quick Shot build, which, for many reasons I'll list if you ask, I would avoid if at all possible). Although this damage isn't the sort of spike you can expect from an air elementalist or mesmer Fragility build, it's enough damage with enough speed to take down an enemy fairly quickly on your own.

Use Punishing Shot and Distracting Shot to make enemy casters mad (though monks can be a bit of a challenge due to their quick casting skills), use Tiger's Fury to make your damage and your interrupts MUCH quicker (with an 8 second duration and a 10 second recharge, might I add). If that enemy mesmer is about to land Empathy on you, give him a Punishing/Distracting shot and make him pay for it. Having an air spiker elementalist alt, i know it's extremely annoying to be interrupted on my exhaustion-causing, big damage spells like Lightning Surge (both with 2 second cast times and easily interrupted by this build), or to have my lightning orb interrupted/disabled. Use Pin Down if they start to get low on health, just in case.

So, that takes care of casters, but what about warriors/other rangers? The stance "Whirling Defenses" provides just about as good of a defense as any. Some people would choose Throw Dirt instead, but I like Defenses because it has a longer duration than Throw Dirt and allows you to dodge arrows, while Throw Dirt only puts the adjacent melee opponents out of comission. Using Whirling Defenses makes you block 75% of attacks, but it feels like 90%, since your health almost never goes down while it's up. That said, you're basically immune to interrupts from anyone other than spellcasters, so go ahead and use Troll Unguent and heal up while you're still tanking, or Pin Down that warrior/ranger on you and run.

You're welcome to switch out Distracting Shot for Concussion Shot if you so desire, or Pin Down for Throw Dirt if you want to have a lot of defense against a warrior.

Oh, BTW, you might not want to use Oath Shot as your elite if you're going to be a trapper. As soon as you use Oath Shot, you're going to get aggro from whatever you shot, meaning you can't trap again till they're dead. Bring Spiked Trap or maybe Barrage to finish off whatever doesn't get owned by your trap.

Here's a build that can work well against any class, guaranteed. Intended for comp arena.

R/Me
Marksmanship 12
Expertise 14
Domination 10

Debilitating Shot
Hunter's Shot
Crippling Shot {Elite}
Distracting Shot
Mind Wrack
Hex Breaker
Antidote Signet
Resurrection Signet, etc.

Warriors and smiters can't touch you when they're crippled. Rangers, necros, mesmers, and elementalists can't poison, disease, or blind you due to antidote signet. No one can hex you effectively due to hex breaker. Hence, if you play smart, you are virtually immune to degen. You are naturally resistant to elementalists and rangers using elemental buffs. You can kill anything, given time, with the combination of mind wrack and debilitating shot, and distracting shot to interrupt self-heals.

This is obviously an attrition build, dedicated to all the stalkers in the audience. Sorry if you were looking for something with uber leet DPS.

Thanks for a lot of the help but ive been toying around with a R\E with <blank>Magic and Conjure <blank> and found it to be to my liking, its meant for damage and basically works well with any class, using debilitating to Drain MP and elemental damage to spike a tad and for a little extra effect(AoE,Armor Penet, Snares)while focused i figured use Barrage as an Elite but i HAVE been looking at Oath shot Cause its my fav...Build was mostly inspired after watching King Arthur cause when he did that cool thing on the ice and made the Saxxons die i was like :O ^_^
