A N/Me, needing assistance.
Alright, my Necro started out as a N/Me but I didn't like it, over the past month I've changed his secondary now at 5 times trying to find a build I enjoyed. (it allowed me to unlock a shitload of skills if nothing else )
Anyways...
I've got other characters I really like, my high damage ranger is a joy to play. I've been struggling to find an enjoyable build with my necro though. I see many threads of people discussing how difficult necromancers are to deal with, but I don't often have a problem with them.
I'm back as a N/Me now, and I'm trying to come up with the most high damage output I can. (because killing things is fun)
Any suggestions? I was thinking a lot of blood, death, and illusion magic possibly. Dark Pact is easy to spam but the health deduction is pretty harsh unless you've got a damn fine heal on you. There are several DoT's as well, but I prefer...direct and immediate damage. And I don't want to have to go to an elementalist.
Any suggestions/builds you people have? I've tried a shitload of stuff with this character already so I don't have a problem with flip flopping attributes, weapons, skills, etc.
Thanks.

I think you're having so much trouble because (in my opinion at least) necros are more of support classes. I've seen necros that can absolutely tear through a 4v4 team with Life Siphon, disease, conjure phantasm (mesmer skill) and Life Transfer, resulting in a -10 health degen even if the person they're attacking is being healed with Healing Breeze or something like that.
That's all fine and dandy and works like a charm in 4v4. But if you take that and apply it to 8v8 or PvE, it just doesn't work. It's hard for one person to inflict that much DoT on more than one target at a time. Necros don't really have high-damage spells that take effect immediately. Your best bet would be to change around to a curse necro and get a good group to play with. Curse necros can be quite deadly but are generally hard to play.
I'm sure this really wasn't what you wanted to hear but I think that would be the best solution.

Try some AOE curses and add in there Feast of Corruption (Elite). It's tons of fun to use, if not a devastating build to boot . Combine arcane echo and use it twice to really piss people off

You're exactly right, Necromancers AND mesmers are both your typical side support classes.
And that's exactly why I want to pull off something different. Hell rangers are most often support classes, but played correctly knocking out warriors is no big deal.
I'd like to pull off the same sort of thing with my necromancer, a build that isn't very common or anything like that, just something different and unusual that makes me as powerful as humanly (or...fantastically...) possible.
I just like to get ideas is all, different things to try is what I need by this point. Otherwise it's all but lost it's luster for me.
Feast of corruption is a good skill, shame it's in the curses line as not many others in that line are what I'm looking for.

Well, you could try a killer anti-caster line. Soul Leech (Elite) + Backfire+ life siphon (as a buffer)+ Wastrel's Worry. This should make sure that no silly monk would want to heal . I'm all out of ideas. I actually run a Me/N who does spike damage and you would be surprised at the builds I have come up with. Crazy yet infinitely more useful than an ele. I <know> that it can be done because I have found a way. Just use your imagination
