A question about armor and holy dmg
I'm recently trying out a w/mo, read the guide available on this site with respect to armor and how it works, and got judges insight. I thought this would be an absolutel wonderful skill since it says it makes your melee dmg holy, which is supposed to completely ignore armor...but then it says it adds 20% armor penetration. This obviously implies that holy doesn't bypass armor.
Now, thinking about it some more i realize that the wands available to non-ele casters all do some sort of 'armor ignoring' damage (chaos, dark, light) Yet these seem to still be affected by armor - wand damage does not stay constant based on the monsters you're fighting.
My question here becomes just how holy, chaos, dark damage is classified. Does a ranger benefit from their +armor against ele when dealing with them? It seems like base armor does affect their damage, but i'm curious as to which adds, if any, affect them.
If holy doesn't get affected by ranger armor it seems like judge's insight is only marginally better than having a sword with an elemental damage type. If it is affected by +ele armor then judges insight seems like a rather pathetic skill.
Some insight would be appreciated

Rangers do not get their +30 bonus against holy/chaos/dark damage type. Holy damage is calculated upon the base armor only. So against a warrior, that'd be armor 80, against ranger, that's armor 70.

Why would you ever want to use elemental dmg weapons against rangers?? I always crack up when I see someone hits a ranger with a dragon sword...its utterly useless.

Warriors in pvp are best advised to use non elemental weapons, myself i use a zealous fellblade of fortitude, never use elemental, monks, rangers and elementalists all have extra armour vs the elements and so therefore negate the benefits of your sword unless your taking on warriors... and lets face it warriors very rarely fight other warriors in pvp.

Umm, actually skills don't ignore armor at all. The only skills that ignore armor are those that specifically say that they do.
If you havn't already, read the combat mechanics article on this page... the information is extremely useful I think, with regards to how damage is calculated and the exact effects of armor.

hmmm
The skill illusionary weaponry gives you a constant amount of chaos damage.
In that case, it ignores armor. I'd assume that chaos damage does aswell.
