Default Blood Renewal

Sacrifice 33% maximum health. For 10 seconds, you gain health regeneration of 3. When Blood Renewal ends, you gain 40-160 health.
Can anyone tell me how this skill would help in any situation? I can think of using it agaisnt skills that do more damage to you when you have more than 50% health, but why help them kill you?

The heal is also wasted unless you're below 1/2 health, and if you use it below 1/2 health, you're either dead or close to it.

Well, it's really not useful after about level 6-10.

Now, if the amount of regen went up along with the amount healed...

All it really does is to shift the timing of the damage you take. You move the damage to the point in time at which YOU want to take it...sort of. Cast blood renewal and then quickly follow up with a vampiric gaze to steal the health back. I like to use the regen and health gain to support my dark pact spamming, each cast of which costs 10% of max health. That way, I can cast dark pact in relative safety, knowing that I WILL be healed very shortly, even if a monk isn't paying attention.

Usually, I cast it immediately *before* getting aggro.

Agreed it's not the best skill, but it does have its place. In an "Aura of the Lich" build, it could work quite well, especially when topped off with a life siphon for some more health regen.

One could argue that it would be better to simply cast life siphon, of course, but that would do less damage (on its own) to the opponent. Although I see a use for the spell ,the question is whether or not blood renewal is worth a slot, and whether it's worth booting out another, potentially more useful skill, such as Shadow Strike or the like.

As an aside, I've never had this enchantment shattered/rended...does the heal at the end of the enchantment still activate if the enchantment is removed? I assume it does, but I don't know for sure.
