Default R/Mo - expertise or healing prayers?

Just started a new ranger build and will put all my points in Marksmanship & Wilderness Survival.
However, I'm not sure about the third branch, either Expertise or Healing Prayers.
I had Healing Prayers in mind especially because of mending and its rez powers, so that points spent there will allow a better mending output.
Expertise on the other hand allows a better energy management, so that I'm stuck and would like to hear from people with similar builds on what attribute they chose and why.

If you're going to use heavy Marksmanship and Wilderness Survival, you're gonna want high Expertise. Otherwise, you're going to run into serious energy management issues given the fact that Rangers have relatively low energy and no way to improve it (since you can't hold a focus with a bow)

I wouldn't even bother with Mending as a Ranger. It will murder your energy regen (-1 when you only have 3 is bad. It makes you a Warrior without Adrenaline skills), and honestly, you're not a tank, so don't feel like its necessary to have that to preserve your life. That's what dedicated healers are for.

If you are a Ranger primary you will want/need to get 14 expertise as soon as you can. If not, why the hell are you a ranger primary? Expertise is by far the most important primary attribute in the game. You simply cannot go without it and except to do well on any non-eccentric ranger.

Rangers aren't tanks. Monk is fine, go with smiting prayers and use judges insight and take along ressurection/rebirth/restore (whichever you like best). But don't expect optimal results if you put any more than a couple points in healing prayers.

The only monk skill i use for my lvl 20 R/Mo is Vengence for pvp and rebirth for pve. I put all my attribute pts on the three main ranger attributes.

Absolutely has to be Expertise. Without it, you won't be using many skills at all, because you'll have no energy.

Healing prayers does nothing for you if you've no energy to cast with.

Yeah,
I realized that as soon as I got mending and gave it a try.
Plus, being far off in the backarea of the fight, usually only results in a few hits, which can be taken care of by troll unguent.

Thanks for the tips everyone, will switch my points to expertise then

Yeah what I tend to do is to have 12 in expertise and 8 (sometimes i change this to 14 (11 + 3) expertise and 7 healing in healing prayers). If you want some decent health regen you might try using vigorous spirit instead, gives you like 8/9 hp per hit at that lvl and lasts for 30 seconds and doensn't give negative effects like -1 energy degen.

So yeah seriously invest in expertise if you have quite a few ranger skills.

If you're not using expertise, why are you a ranger primary? The energy loss is pretty significant just for the improved armor, compared to a monk primary. Divine favor is a much more useful exclusive attribute for a healer. I'm sure you can make it work, but it'll never be quite as effective at healing as a primary monk. Remember that if you're acting as both a damager and a healer, you'll probably end up half as good at both as you could be at either one if you specialized. I'd go with expertise.

Interestingly, the other profession that can benefit the most from expertise is warrior. I've also heard that glyphs may be covered under expertise.
