Default Making a Monk/something

Right now I know I want to have a monk that is smiting and healing. However, i want to make a second class to put some attribute points into. So divine favor, healing, smiting, and SOMETHING (from secondary class)

Elementalist is pretty good. Dump some points into Earth and pickup armor of earth + kinetic armor, u'll be tanking better than w/mos =P

I'm a Mo/N, so I can describe it for you.

When doing PvE, especially when I'm only using henchmen, I like to use Death Magic, specifically Deadly Swarm and Summon Bone Horror. The Bone Horrors give me a large number of meat shields, which are very nice when I run into trouble. Deadly Swarm hits 3 targets for good damage, which is useful.

When I'm doing PvP, I like Blood Magic. Blood Ritual lets me sacrifice a small amount of life to give another ally increased energy regeneration. It's great when partying with another monk. Well of Blood is very useful, assuming that you can get a corpse. Life Siphon is great to cast on several targets, because you won't have to worry about healing very much, and you'll be doing damage. Also, I often use Plague Touch, which is nice when I'm facing Warriors who love conditions.

I probably can't heal as effectively as an Inspiration Mesmer or an Elementalist, because of their energy regeneration techniques, but I have some nice utility spells.

There is Offering of Blood, which you haven't mentioned. Excellent energy management skill.

You might want to consider Warrior or Mesmer secondaries as well.

Warrior secondary gives you some nice shouts like watch yourself as well as defensive stances such as bonettis and sheild stance.

Mesmer secondary gives you some cool energy management skills such as channeling and any of the many energy stealing skills.

Finally, going back to elementalist, earth wards (ward against melee) are great skills to bring along as they give a defensive bonus to your whole team. Just one monk has to bring it for all the monks to get a benefit. This is also true for shouts like watch yourself.

Sometimes people can spread the attribution points a little thin. I have a LVL20 Mo/Me for PvE. I dont have one point in my secondary. Im a pure monk 11 Smite, 11 Heal, 7 Protection and 12 Divine favor. Why put just 7 points or so into my secondary for a half baked effect in PvE? Poeple expect a strong monk in party's and I give them just that. I can smite, heal and protect. Its great for solo farming. You dont have to move points around just for some mission or quest.

When I go GvG then the refund points are available to experiment with. That is why I picked my secondary. If you plan on using this toon for other than PvE think what may be useful and fexible secondary.

So, for PvE if you are a monk you will be expected to be a healer (and there have been a few threads "debating" this). I am nearing the Ring of Fire and constantly watching the health bars bounce up and down, gets a little boring. I love it when I can help a lower level guid mate run through missions. The Smite is quite enjoyable!
