Well, your ideal character could be a large number of different class combinations. Let me describe some of the classes for you:
Necromancer - You'll have some good debuffs and life stealing, but not too much raw damage.
Elementalist - Lots of damage and a few good utility spells.
Mesmer - Lots and lots of debuffs.
Monk - Ok damage, knockdown (just like stun) skills, and healing (if you don't choose to be a healing Monk, then it's good ettiquette to warn your team beforehand, since people expect a healer when they add a Monk to their team, and not a smiter).
Pick a combination of those few classes.
