yes...the mirror is easy...just get the correct skills on the bar
I took backfire, wastrel's worry, illusion of haste, illusion of weakness, etheral burden, imagined burden, arcane mimicry, rez sig
...I cast backfire and wastrel's worry on him...he cast the whole lot of spells...then wastrel's worry detonated and killed him

I play a necro/mesmer, and I loaded myself down with every skill sacrificing health in, HOPING, that he'd kill himself and not be effective because my attributes weren't high in those skills at all (0), so I thought he'd kill himself and I'd take little damage, well turns out he had highest in those attributes and I didn't, so he just used the skills and got himself down to about 20% and me dead. That was how it went the first time, the second time, knowing what sort of advantages he had, well it was pretty damn cool.
I loaded similar skills in, except I brought some inspiration magic skills to defend against physical damage, I brought sacrifice skills that did no damage to the enemy, and that's it. I cast physical resistance, that helped out quite a bit and then just kept hitting him as much as I could with my staff, he had a bow that round, but I forgot I left a few hexes in (luckily a few remove hex things as well). The battle lasted for over 5 minutes, both of us kept running around in circles, hexing/dehexing and taking hits from one another, I brought one healing spell (ether feast) that I used to heal, as did he, so when we ran out of energy we just hit eachother normall, and for over 5 minutes this battle went on, just back and forth trying to stay alive, we both had about 20% health for about 3 minutes where it stayed around there, and then I got him down really really low, I had about the same amount, we both just did a normal attack, and we both died. But luckily enough, when he fell, it gave it to me. And I ascended.
After this battle I felt kinda bad that we both died (in all honesty though I died about 2/3 of a second before hand but I got my shot off killing him), so I went and did it again to beat him in a better way. The battle lasted 40 seconds, and we BOTH died AGAIN. Same way, the lasts shots just hit eachother and we both died, it went quicker because I didn't bring ether feast. After this I felt pretty damn good "I am my own equal", so I felt good enough having tied him twice, with skills that DIDN'T outsmart him, and he dealt more damage than me. Then I passed the next few missions and went back today, beat him in about 20 seconds, I found more blood magic skills and pumped some points into that, beat him without dying.
Pretty friggin' sweet.

I play necro/monk, and when I ascended I found a really fun strategy. It would work for any necro primary or secondary. Just need Plague Touch, Chiblains, Signet of Agony, Defile Flesh, Death Nova, Malign Intervention, and Dark Pact.
It all relys on the horrible AI that the mirror uses, just charge him, then disease yourself with Chiblains, Plague Touch the disease onto him, bleed yourself with signet of agony, plague touch, then spam plague touch untill you find yourself free of the disease and bleeding. It's mostly just spamming Plague Touch so that you cast it immidiatly after he casts it on you.
The same disease and bleeding will be bouncing back and forth for the majority of the match. But what gives you the W is that as you both get low on health from the constant heavy degen and health sacrifice, he will stop Plague Touching and attacking to cast Malign Intervention on you. It makes you recieve less benefit from healing, and when you die it raises a masterless Bone Horror from your corpse.
While he stops to cast that, you can get the upperhand in the condition transfering war. Then his brilliant AI, seeing that it is getting low on health, will cast Death Nova on itself. He'll die, and the Nova will kill you, which has the added bonus of you being attacked by a Bone Horror in the cutscene.
It takes almost no time because he will sacrifice 20% health in his first two skills, Dark Pact and Signet of Agony, and you are better at spamming Plague Touch than he is. Necros just have that advantage for being sick twisted masicists I guess.

I found a pretty easy way to do it fighting him more tonight, I brought shatter enchantment and inspired enchantment if that's what they're called, physical resistance, and death nova, along with dark pact. I knew he had better weapons, so I intended on dying, but what I did was I went in, and cast physical resistance on myself, then he cast it on himself, we both removed it from eachother, he cast dark pact taking some hit points from us both, but I just did normal attacks, then when my health got low I cast death nova, he cast his physical resistance AND death nova, and the way they stacked I shattered the resistance and then inspired the death nova, so I cast death nova on myself again, but then he dark pact again, and we both had like 5 health, he killed me, my death nova killed him, and we did it like that for a while over and over 'cause it was fun. Death nova's so awesome.

thats the funny thing about the mirror. so may ppl spam saying "i cant kill it" "help" or even goes complete bonkers because they cant figure it out.
the big thing/word is Strategy. you get the right combo and mirror is toast on the 1st try. "humans" are still smarter than "AI" in any game. hehe.

I have a necro/mez, i was thinking about doing this...backfire, defile flesh, shatter hex, order of pain, demonic flesh, death nova, dark aura. from what i understand about the AI, it seems like they buff most of their enchants before attacking. All of their skills here sac hp, dark aura increases their sac. Because i can buff before the bout i could demonic flesh and order of pain before running in, then open with defile flesh. He would shatter hex or keep on castin buffs inwhich case i would drop back fire and then damage with my wand. In any of the above cases ive trapped him into either shattering a hex, casting a spell (with backfire on), or buffin up. No matter which he is going to recieve hefty damage and should be cake after.

I got REALLY frustrated trying to kill my mirror...15-20 times. Finally I removed ALL skills except for Price of Failure.
As soon as I saw him, I targeted him and we both cast POF at the same time. He had a bow and proceeded to shoot at me. I timed it just right so that I was able to dodge. Each miss cost him 26 health. Every time he paused to recast POF, I did the same. I didn't do a thing other than dodge left/right and he eventually croaked and I ascended.
It took a few tries to get the timing right, but I got it.
Kudos to the level 3 ascention video...that's where I got the idea.
