don't count out eternal bow. It seems to be a better cross then flat. Storm bow and shadow though sort of suck.

Longer flight times translate into higher arc. Faster arrow effects, like Read the Wind or Favorable Winds, actually lower the arc of a bow shot. So Horn Bows have both quick time-to-targets and flat arcs, while Flatbows have long flighttimes and high arcs.

Sure, but we don't know what those do. At some point I'll have to pick up throwaway versions of those bows to compare against the established types to see where they fit.

Peace,

But we're dealing in the hypothetical here. In an ideal situation- all other modifiers being equal, which bow do you choose?

Rate of fire dictates how fast you can do damage.
Flight time determines accuracy and interrupts.
Range is...range.

Pick accordingly.
I suppose the implication at the end of my post wasn't obvious enough...I prefer the flat bow for it's range, mostly to hang back from agro when farming...I'm often the last party member left standing and have to come res the dead...

Both Shortbow and Half Moon have the same firing rate and flight time.
is there a difference between the 2 ?

The difference. In-game graphic. They look slightly different.

The Ascalon bows gotten from collectors have varying "base item" stats: some are Shortbows, some are Longbows. Somewhere in the game resources forum is a post concerning the collector bows. I am unsure of its accuracy however.

Yeah, take a Shorbow/Half Moon and a Longbow or some other comparable long distance bow for runners, picking someone off, etc. The Shortbow is to deal damage.

Storm bows are great for picking off dumb enemies that dont know theyre being attacked. Horrible for PVP.

What about the horn bow 10% innate armor penetration rumor?
Anyway, i used the 15>50 Ascalon Shortbow, and a flatbow for range when i need it, although im trying to find a longbow since the flatbow arc is just rediculous unless the person being hit is retarded.

I think flatbow has the highest crit rate due to high arc... [all head shots?]

But if the enemy is moving, tough shit...

However, since most enemies stop moving to do anything useful... [fight, cast spells], flatbow can do it's thing I suppose. I'd like to use one for my guy. [max dmg, req. 8 marks]

Just so my pet can do his dirty work... R/Mo longrange warrior build... [yay for balthasar's aura]

I use 3 different 15>50% collectors bows with random mods.. my main bow is the short bow version, which has a zealous string and im looking for a bow grip of defense for it (tiger's fury + barrage = goodbye energy problems). I use the long bow version for pulling and the composite bow version occasionally for my first attack (since the first attack is always the same time). Of course thats not really needed at all.

They don't suck. they are the same bows just have different skins.

Storm bow=Longbow
Shadow bow=horn bow
Eternal bow = composite/recurve

Also on the longbows and horn bows using FW increases flight speed tremindously. So flight time isnt really an issue.

I am a fan of storm/ long bows for the range and acuracy. Even though i do keep a 5-1 vampric short bow for melee distance. And i use the Ascalon collectors long bow equivalent that u get from the desert for special situations, where i want a hard hitting perfect bow with skeletonslaying, deathbane, or trollslaying type grip.

The bow is the only weapon you got as a ranger but the amount of damage you can get from it is phenominal if used intellgently. Also when you go into battle always seek the high ground as you do more damage from an elevated position.

In pvp I switch between a flatbow and a Composite bow. The flatbow bcause of its refire rate and the composite bow for its chance to hit moving targets better. And if it comes close than switch to a hornbow w/ a cast attack skill because of its natural armor penetration.

so theres no point in using something like a composite/horn bow? i thought those were like an average of the short/longbow, are they useless? ive stuck to shortbows for the most part...

I use 3 bows, 2 Short Bows and a Longbow. The two Short Bows have different string/grip setups and damage bonuses specific to the builds they were designed for, namely Interrupt and Quickshot builds, which is what I play the most.

I find myself only taking out my feathery Longbow to pose with, and on the odd occasion using it to Pin Down anybody who thinks they're getting away...

There is a point to using both of those bows. Composite/recurve type bows have the shortest flight time on their arrows, making them ideal for firing interrupt arrows. Shorter time to target gives you a better chance of hitting the enemy while he/she is casting. They're also the best at hitting moving targets because of their short flight time. I use my composite type Ascalon collector's bow when I set up for conditioning using Pin Down, Hunter's Shot, Poison Arrow, and the like.

Horn bows are the king of single shot damage. If you're looking to pack a punch with every single shot, horn bow is the way to go. They do have the rumored 10% armor penetration, even though it doesn't get listed, so they can do the most damage per arrow. However, their rate of fire is incredibly slow, which makes me shy away from using them.

My bag o' tricks contains a longbow, shortbow, and composite bow. I use the longbow when I'm pulling or I feel like I need to stay far, far away from the enemy. I use the shortbow most of the time, as it is outfitted with a zealous string for my usual build, Quick Shot + Tiger's Fury. When I'm having trouble hitting a target due to speed increases, constant movement, or the like, I switch to bow 3, my composite bow. Unless they have block/evasion skills on, that bow never misses. It is also my bow of choice when I'm set up to use Poison Arrow and other conditions, as I mentioned before.

Bows are like clothes... you've gotta find one that fits you
