Default Potential Hero: Smite Support

So, after trying out the paraway, with the D/N hero, I wanted to try and make something for my Dervish on Ogden. I came up with this build:

[skill]Boon Signet[/skill][skill]Reversal of Damage[/skill][skill]Smite Condition[/skill][skill]Splinter Weapon[/skill][skill]Ancestor's Rage[/skill][skill]Strength of Honor[/skill][skill]Balthazar's Spirit[/skill][skill]Death Pact Signet[/skill]

I have Balthazar's Spirit and Strength and Honor canceled out, then I cast them on myself at the beginning of the fight. Ancestor's Rage and Splinter Weapon because they win. Boon Signet for energy to cause mild damage with Reversal of Damage and to take conditions off the team with Smite Condition.

I am looking for ways to improve this build, I was thinking of adding Smiter's Boon, but I don't know where to put it. I am also trying to find better smite spells for the bar. If you can help, it would be appreciated.

Oh, attributes are:

11+1+1 Divine
10+1 Smiting
10 Channeling

Personally, I would take out Balth Spirit and add in Smite Hex, and if you wish take out DPS for Smiter's Boon.

Don't see real use for Balthazar's
Essence Bond may me better, since most mobs concentrate on the SY spammer.

I agree with Kyomi, I would take out the Balthazar's bring Smite Hex. I would also replace the res with Smiter's Boon.

I think energy can be an issue with Strength of Honor to maintain on this build. If that is the case, you can replace it with [contemplation of purity] for an emergency.

With little changes it could be (almost) full time healer with some dmg done

11+1+2 Divine
10+1 Smiting
10 Channeling

I've no idea how that would actually work, but the idea of 28 Divine Favor (90 healing) on semi spammable target ally (smiting)spells that deal conditional damage doesn't sound too bad, though a hero wouldn't use smite hex/condition just for the heal.

Sounds like a really interesting concept to me. I hate having to devote a hero slot to a worthwhile hex/condition remover because it means I usually have to drop a damage dealer. But, with this, I'd get hex/condition removes and moderate damage depending on the area.

Thanks for the replies all!

I actually only use Balthazar's Spirit to help me spam SY! as a I don't use For Greater Justice! or Dark Fury on an Orders character.

I might end up taking that out and putting in Smite Hex like suggested.

I might look for a replacement to Boon Signet, but then there goes my energy management, as it really helps, my hero usually ends up with max energy every fight anyways, but I was thinking about bringing more utility with that Elite slot, but then I need another form of that nice e-management.

Looks like you're trying to squeeze too much out of the Hero.

Smite spells are weak, Monk energy management options are bad and without Hex removal you'd be better off with a Channel / Resto N/Rt. Have you tried [mark of fury] and/or [weapon of fury] to power SY? Barbs will output the same bonus damage as Strength of Honor.

On paper spells like Reversal of Damage, Smiter's Boon, Boon Signet, Divine Boon, Judge's Insight, Judge's Intervention and Zealot's Fire look great. In reality they all suck on a Hero Monk as they either can't use them properly or their energy will drain within seconds. That leaves Smite Hex and Smite Condition as decent Smite spells, but neither are worth spending attributes in Smiting Prayers.

This is about as close to a working Mo/Rt spell-smiter as i can get -

[defender's zeal][reversal of damage][smite hex][smite condition][splinter weapon][ancestors rage][castigation signet][smiters boon]

Smiter's Boon tends to need micromanagement. Defender's Zeal is usually ok energy management, lock the Hero onto a melee/ranger if mob physicals are low.

The build still looks pretty bad for a hero, i wouldn't waste the slot. The only Smite builds i'd remotely consider taking are Signet Smiters or an E/Mo Master of Magic Smiter and only in undead-heavy areas.

PERFECT!!! Your a life saver. Defender's Zeal is exactly the skill I needed. Now I can focus out of Divine, and into Prot. Thanks a ton.

I really don't think Defender's Zeal is that great
It will be cast at the foe you are targetting. Thus with 8 'people' attacking the same foe, it will go down too quickly.
It will need immense micro-ing to be able to work. I agree with Anthitesis, put the ritualist skills on something else and use a N/Mo:

Yeah, I see where that is going. I'm just looking for a smaller buffer for me, I don't need the whole party buffed, as I'm usually going to be the only physical attacker. I was, and still am, under the impression that the only way to buff my prowess, without wasting a hero slot, is smiting buffs.

Anyway, to manage your energy use Defender's Zeal much better than Balth's SaH is not necesary, just extra effort mantaining it all the time.

I would strongly recommend using Smite Hex, should look som thing like this:

why use smiting spells on necs? Oo

Oh and the blood nec will get itself killed rather quickly with such a sac.

Balthazar's Spirit is for me. So it helps me get SY! up on my Dervish, rather than spending a slot with a D/N when I'm the only physical attacker. Strength and Honor is sort of meh, your right, it's +13 damage all the time though, and the hero's energy never seems to drop when I was using Boon Signet, I don't know how Defender's Zeal will turn out.

Considering the speed at which mobs atack on HM Def Zeal is a good energy supply, I still dont understand the idea nehind Balth's, why? You are not getting atacked to much anyway unless you are trying to "Tank & Spank" with a paragon. QQ And your SY! should be up quite often too without any outside help.

I'm a Dervish. I wish I could understand your grammar. And what's with the QQ?

At optimal attack speed, 33%, and hitting 3 people, the max, at a time, it takes me three swings to charge SY! Remember, I'm not using Ursan, so Balthazar's is optimally up all the time without enchantment removal, which shouldn't be a problem on a Dervish, since I'm usually always enchanted with Heart of Fury or Zealous Renewal when I'm running Melandru.

adrenaline gain, tho not much

With 8-12 smiting, you'll get about 1/6 strike of adrenaline on every hit. It helps.

Here's another random idea:
[build prof=Mo/Ri name="lala" Div=3 Smi=12 Cha=12][Balthazars Spirit][Strength of Honor][Signet of Judgment][Signet of Rage][Castigation Signet][Ancestors Rage][Splinter Weapon][Resurrection Signet][/build]

Basically 2 pips of regen +castigation, just enough to use splinter+ancestor

why signet of rage? Honestly I dont like mantaining an enchies on me with a hero, unneeded effort it is.
