Did the elites, etc. get lost in the translation to GW BBCode? And how far into the game are you? Things that you can get by with in Istan won't serve you in Vabbi. If these are the builds that you pinged they wouldn't be effective outside of Istan.

If you look at the builds, most are very similar to the starter builds the heroes come with. My guess is he has very few, if any, elites unlocked on his account as it is.
I would advise, first of all, switching secondary profession on your main character, and going around capping some easy-to-use elites so as to unlock some for each of your heroes...for instance:
Mesmer: [Energy Surge]
Warrior: [Crippling Slash]
Monk: [Word of Healing]
Necromancer: [Jagged Bones] and [Reaper's Mark]
Elementalist: [Elemental Attunement], or an elite from one of the Lines of Magic: [Savannah Heat], [Sandstorm] are both ok on Heroes.
Ranger: [Prepared Shot] or [Burning Arrow]
Paragon: [Defensive Anthem] or [Cruel Spear]

Henchmen use elite skills, and skillbars that actually synchronize a little.
It's very hard to comment on these builds, as you know they are rubbish, and you will keep hearing they are rubbish.
I suggest you take a look around on these forums, there are a lot of nice builds posted.
Stick [signet of capture] on your bar wherever you go, and start capping some elite skills.

These are all nightfall elites skill that are very usefully in a variety of places. i didnt add the core ones if sumone else wnated to add sumthing.
Monk: Zealous Benediction, Healer's Boon, Glimmer of Light, Light of Diliverance
Warrior: Charging Strike, Crippling Slash, Steady Stance
Ranger: Burning Arrow
Necromancer: Reaper's Mark
Mesmer:sorry didnt see one that ive seen used other then Energy Surge or Pwer Drain.
Elementalist: Blinding Surge, Sandstorm, Savannah Heat, Searing Flames
I really hope this helps if not, goto http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page
for builds or ideas
note: i didnt add any that were already mentioned and i didnt add paragon or dervish becuz most/all of their skills are nightfall(duh)
notenote: You DEFIENTLY need to get some Signet of Captures so you can start getting elite skills. Get to Sunspear Sanctuary and do a few quests to be able to change your 2ndery profession.
(sorry i couldnt find the quest name becuz i havnt played a character made in nightfall)
notenotenote: you could also get Ursan for your character, but i dont recomend it unless you wanna ruin your gaming experiance by making your character a walking gernade

PVXwiki has great hero builds, but if you going to PUG, focus on your skills, and let others put their heros in. Kitting them can get expensive.

Use henchmen until you can get a decent hero build. Otherwise, let others bring their heroes instead.

Although the PvXwiki builds can often be vastly improved by taking advice from players here. They are an excellent place to start, once you have some pretty good hero builds you can start refining them.

okay now we want to give you some good advice
if you ever and i mean ALWAYS are unsure of a hero's build or don't know what to make them into this site here is what i call the Guild wars Build bible
why? because it's full of good builds for any kind of thing, from general pve use to specific team builds, also PvP builds can be found there
if you're going to cap the elites you need use http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page for the specific location of the boss whose elite you are going to cap
now that's explained i'll give you some advice
two resses on one build is kinda bad, i see your monk with res sig and a ressurect
if you have factions a good res skill is [resurrection chant] it's most used as well next to [rebirth] when it comes to monk ressing skills
you can have alot of heroes but i mainly use one monk, one necro and nuker ele
with that setup i am very secure in hostile situations and i am sure you would be too
you are quite new but some skills are available for you
make sure you check wiki good on some elite skills and for last i'll leave you with some of my favourite and most used hero templates
[SF nuker;OgBSoYGP0txaTDAAMQG4CBA]
[Jagged bomber;OANDUslfOohqwSteEQwDKiqK]
i let my eles usually take [resurrection chant] with them for their large energy pool so they can easily res

If you want honesty, they are utter rubbish. Not "omg-stop-play-this-gamer-idiot" sort, but still bad.
a) Cap elites. you are at desolation, FFS, you should have had elites before you entered Vabbi. I mean, there is quest that should teach you to capture elite skill ...
b) Use your hero skill points (which you surely must have) to buy some more skills from hero trainer. Use them.
c) Follow advice you get here. Remeber that its advice that is given to newbie, there are more effective ways to play game which people in here dont tell you because it would confuse hell out of you.

kier, if you're already to the gate of desolation then you should be able to cap elite skills. elite skills are called elite for a reason. they generally have amped up qualities that can really boost a player/hero's effectiveness.
you should also pay attention to skill descriptions and find skills which synergize with each other. for example [searing flames] and [glowing gaze]. SF sets everything on fire and GG gives your hero energy when he hits a burning target.
being a new player, i would also suggest that you don't spend your money on anything you don't really need. signets of capture are something you should really spend most of your cash on at this point. figure out which heros you like to take with you and which builds you like and spend your cash on those skills for now. for your monk, i would suggest [glimmer of light] for now. i don't think [woh] is available until a little later in NF. glimmer is easily cappable right outside of sunspear sanctuary. for your ele, i would suggest [searing flames] as it can be found in vabbi somewhere i believe.
anyway, good luck. any more questions, just keep asking.

I see much advice has already been given. Yes it is very important to cap elite skills...
It's pretty amazing that you've made it this far without elites or even a full skill bar on your heroes. :O
For your monk, definitely get Healer's Boon. Go look it up on guild wars wiki for the location...get Searing Flames for ele DEFINITELY, and get Jagged Bones since you can't get Flesh Golem(factions). Also make sure you DO bother w/ hero skill bars as they will make more of a difference as difficulty increases in the missions, especially if you don't group with someone with really good heros >.>
Good luck!

no offense to illidan009, but i disagree with giving your hero [healer's boon]. it compromises the effectiveness of the bar. IMO you should go with a hybrid bar for your heros, meaning some protection and some healing but not all of either. for HB to be truly effective, you need a bar devoted solely to healing and no protection. the most effective bar i've found for my monk heros is
[build prof=mo/e healing=12+1+1 prot=10+1 divine=8+1][word of hea][dwayna's kiss][cure hex][dismiss condition][aegis][glyph of lesser][reversal of for][empty][/build]
all of those skills are nf/eotn/core except [[dwayna's kiss]. you can substitute something else in there. but that should get your monk hero going. also bring the protection hench so your hero and the henchie can chain [[aegis]. that alone can prevent more damage than healing alone can cover and will also trigger the conditional healing for [[dismiss cond].

Time for me to get back to you guys, after not playing a lot this week and barely finding time I managed to rearrange zhen and master of whispers skill bars so not much accomplish but I am still trying to get word of healing by killing the boss in vlox falls and having not much luck.
If anyone is still reading this thread then I have some new questions – I have been reading a lot about the 3 necro build and the 3 monk build so I am wondering if that would be better than the heroes I currently am using (zhen, master and monk).
Mainly though my goals are to complete nightfall and eye of north not really interested in doing hard mode, so I thought would the 3 necros/3monk heroes work even better for me?
Keep the advice coming
Thanks everyone
Edit forget skill bars -
