600/smite, hero gets SLAUGHTERED.
i'm 600 monk. Hero on smiter. I go in, do my thing, hero is dead in <5 seconds. Just massacre. Flagged off into nowhere, no monsters, no nothing, just death.
[life attunement][vital blessing][retribution][holy wrath]
Casts those enchantments on me, and i go in. those skill descriptions tell me nothing. i'm apparently clueless.
It's like the hero casts life bond on me. It doesn't, yet still same effect. Maybe someone can fill me in.

Yeah that's probably it. So if i used a Me/Mo instead... what will that do for me? Just provide the heal from illusion of weakness, or is there some other little known pve fact i'm not aware of with it?

Illusion Of Weaknes is enough. I aggroed 3 groups in CoF (with 1 or 2 monks in each) and Gwen survived thanks to IoW (they left her with 30 HP, but survived).
Unless you overaggro every smitter in the map, your Me/Mo will survive.

I switched the smiter to Mo/W and gave him healsig and signet of devotion. That's easily enough that he never dies due to Reversal of Damage.

If you want you can bring me/mo with illusion of weakness and take out rebirth for signet of rejuvenation. Slap in 12 healing and let the hero spam it as well. Having illusion of weakness as a backup always helps ensure it. But usually it should never trigger thanks to the signet spamming.

Normally I just roll with a Mo/Me smiter, put Illusion of weakness (with 6 in illusion) like the others said and no problimo. Could also try modifying his equip for more health I suppose. (Couldn't hurt!)
Oh, and after you get used to CoF, try else where too. My favorite spot is the Hidden City in NF. Gems ahoy!

Or let your smiter hero use Signet of Devotion but make sure you disable his blessed signet so he doesn't waste time casting it.
Using a SoI Me/Mo hero has the advantage of getting 16 Smiting and 16 Protection but you lose a skill slot due to SoI. Alternatively if you have more than 1 account, like myself, you can use a second monk as the smiter and swap armor pieces to get 16 Smiting and 16 Protection to cast enchantments, then swap again to max health. But make sure that you select your smiter and keep pressing the key for Sig of Devotion on wireless keyboard with the other hand. You also get double drops this way since they are both your characters but you need to train yourself to quickly switch character if your tank dies.

I generally find that BiP is never needed. Unless I were to die (which would result in needing to re-enchant and wait a bit anyway).
I really wish the standard cof runners would use self sustaining smiters or start charging 1.5k. I see no reason to pay them 2k when the entire party is required to heal their poor choice of a smiter.
I prefer me/mo since all you need is 16 illusion and still self sustaining. Just manage the energy and you'll never need a BiP again.

If you dont need BR or Bip then you can use Numa's suggestion of using a Mo/W and bring heal sig as well as sig of devotion for double healing. In any case, I like to bring Purge Signet on my human monk smiter to get rid of all hexes and conditions.
A Me/Mo hero only has space for the 4 enchants, rebirth, SoI, Ether Signet, and IoW. But for heroes, I still prefer the mesmer to the monk smiter because of the 16 smiting and 16 protection from SoI.
