SoS Rit - Pretty generic bar, SoS, Splinter Weapon, Bloodsong, etc.
2 Mesmers - PI Dom Mesmer + Ineptitude Illusion
Minion Master with curses support
AoG Dervish - Usually used for pulling/balling mobs... toss Seed of Life on them when they grab aggro to protect your team from spikes. Will also Micro the prot monk's Prot Spirit on this one.
Last spot is usually open... I'll often run a Command Paragon just because I have a soft spot for the class.
It may not be the most ideal or efficient setup, but it's a lot of fun and can blow through most everything in HM so far.

Totally agree here.
Don't use Discord for once....
And no, ele's dmg pales when a Esurger using that single skill(larger aoe, no foes limit hit) outdmg eles using air @ 15 + glyph of power with invoke. Getting 90-100 dmg from anything but Lorb or such is a mirage in HM, dunno where you've seen those numbers....eles threads are plenty of this kind proofs, so let the OT end here.

I might sound like a newb but I usually do this:
When I'm vqing myself (so with 7/5 heroes) I usually run a RoJ build. In areas where spiritspam can be useful I switch to Mo/Rt. You can also run a healer build, but as you say you'll lack damage. If you really want to spam damage go something with RoJ and take Necrosis with you. :P
For the heroes I'd take the default thingies like Panic, Ineptitude, SoS Resto, MM Bomber, ST Rit etc.

If you notice I said 3 mesmers and one or two other AoE damage classes - of course the mesmer is better - but I play an ele, and I do know what I'm talking about. Go read what I posted before commenting on it, because you are rather incorrect. E-Surge has an equivalent AoE (both are nearby), and 90-100 damage is certainly reasonable @ 17-18 air magic. I can post a screenshot if necessary. It does 87 damage against 100 ar targets, 111 against 80 ar targets. Level 30 casters will have 90 base armor.
As for the thread, I gave out the options, RoJ is probably the best bet with a snare if you want some good damage. If you don't want to use RoJ + snare, or heal, you'll have to abuse PvE skills (YMLAD, FH, EVAS, EVSS, etc).

Only thing i'd add, is to be sure get a meele hero(derv or earthshacker war generally) when running heal bar:
-The dumb meele hero loves jump in aoe/nasty places...
-put seed of life on him...profit.
Again(srry) OT, @pluto:
17-18 Air = -hp from rune, bar expansion for glyph/ench/cracked-foes debuffs/blabla.
Esurge at 13 Dom do the same, better(no 3 target cap of Invoke says hi!), using 1 slot and full hp.
Also, Armor Penetration is nice, but can't be compared to what IGNORE it at all....
Don't get me wrong, i DO NOT want to restart the HM ele discussion (plenty of thread for it), neither force anyone to play/do not play something, just want to underline that if you need damage in HM(and playing non-smiter monk you'll need it) Mesmers(or Necs/Rits...and Smiters) will be a much better class to use for that purpose, expecially cause we are talking about noob hero AI w/o pve skill abuse.
Unless playing nm or particular stuff (Snowmen lair and such), ER protter is (sadly) the only things ele heroes do in my teams. And is a nice help when monking afterall.
P.S: i'm half of Kurzick title far to get GWAMM of my main, a Ele. Trust me, i know too what i'm talking about (i wasn't happy at all when listed damage dropped from 90ish of the description to 35 real...still having nightmares about that).

Because I don't want to clutter up the thread, I sent you a PM with my math on an elementalists damage. It's way more viable than you might think. I did forget to include a note for a potential of exhaustion, but it's not typically a big deal. And the bars are relatively tight as I explained.
Just to point out for OT, Invoke ele's are definitely viable candidates for damage in HM, unless you can ball enemies to hit more than 3. Or even in that case, when you have already used 3 mesmers. I'd take an ele over a smiter and necro any day, unless it's special circumstances.

For same reason above, i've replied via PM :P
Anyway, more than the source of damage (Invoke, Esurge, Roj, Foc,...) is the amount that a monk must always balance carefully. If you play Smite, go with the regular caster setup.
Playing Prot/Heal requires a rework of the team.
Something i was running lately (only nm, was rushing through nf...)
-Me Hburst heal+RoF as preprot+Seed.
-ER Protter (redundant in nm, but the team was designed for more hard stuff)
-Aotl MM
-PI rupts+dom dmg
-Shared burden + illusion dmg
-AoB + wind/earth flashment and teardown depending on area
-2x roj nuker(carrying some utility stuff).
Not the best surely (i'm saying it too) but gives you the idea of the standard balance offense/defence when player is the latter.

I run 2 Mesmers, 2 spirit rits, 2 AotL MMs, and an Ele nuker personally. Works fine for me (I run UA just for facerolling ease)
