3. He's got a natural 100 effective AR, so he's perfect for a hard res.
The 10e attack skills become 5e with expertise, and they effectively come around once every 2s. I like Death Pact Signet because it raises with 100% health and is so fast.
I feel like GFtE is a poor choice if he's the only real martial weapon user in a party with no minions. But I guess it's worth a try.

talking about 10e attack skills, have you tried Sloth Hunter's Shot ?

If you can beat HM Foundry, it's fair game that you can beat the rest of the areas, though any DoA area in HM takes effort. It took me weeks to beat HM foundry, myself. While beating the entire area in one go without the use of cons, SY, or a dedicated tank might be a challenge to some, I thought about it and realized that it's honestly just a waste of effort to spend 4-5 hours on it. It's not much fun, either. :/
After some practice, I can go through both Gloom and City without too much stress in HM, but if you want to actually earn something from it, FR NM is better. Veil and Foundry are just too problematic for any casual runs. I don't believe there's any build that doesn't rely on gimmicks of a sort to make it through those casually (note, that concerns hero builds - with players, anything can be casual with the right players). I first thought I could manage it easily - then I backtracked and stuck with NM. :P Even NM foundry still punishes mistakes if you try to rush, as I've found out many times thinking it was going so easy.
On a side note, though, I am going to see about a dual player team to do a mini-sc with heroes.. R/A and an E/Mo to clear in <1h15, possibly? I'll work it out.

I for one welcomed the release of mercenaries. I've been playing on and off since 2005 (more off than on over the last two years, to be fair) and I suspect I am the very LAST person to complete the Mallyx quest for the first time. I had Gloom left to do, plus of course Mallyx himself. None of my old friends play anymore and I don't spend enough time ingame to justify joining a guild. I knew if I tried pugging it, I'd get a lot of aggro from the other peeps for being a N00b, so I decided to go with heroes. I went in with my usual two mesmers, two necs, rit and three monk backline (just to be safe). Gloom got a little hairy at one point in the cave, but after that, I thought wow, much easier than expected (note that this was NM). I completed the second quest, noticed a chest, went for it and managed to aggro two groups. I didn't think it would be a big deal, but they hurt like hell for some reason and it was an almost instant party wipe... Anyway, I went back in and completed it without any problems the second time around. Mallyx, or to be exact, defending the priest against the waves of torment creatures, turned out to be much more of a challenge. When I got sick of failing, I looked up a few builds on here and eventually found something that seemed to work very well. Because I wasn't familiar with the spawns, I didn't know what the last groups would be, and so I messed up the door trick and had to fight Mallyx inside, with all his spirits up. I got him down to about 20%, but energy was a big problem and eventually his reinforcements overwhelmed us. Next time around, I got to the door in time, and Mallyx was easy. So yes, I am a happy bunny. The mercs mean I can actually play again.

Can someone explain 'the door trick'?
I've had just one (failed) attempt to kill Mallyx with 7H. I disabled hexes and enchantments on all my heroes, went into the chamber, aggroed Mallyx and thought I was doing OK, getting his health down steadily, then the first wave of his sidekicks spawned and it was all over fairly quickly after that. It was a bit disheartening because I thought I'd done so well with the 18 waves of enemies that charged in while the High Priest was doing his stuff. So, if there is some sort of 'trick' I would really like to know!

During the last wave needed to defend the priest flag your heroes when the battle is almost over and go where the gate opens, enter the gate asap after the wave is killed, and skip the cinematic as fast as you can. You will be able to get out of the room before the door closes, you will then be free to fight mallyx without the nasty souls effects and avoiding the spawns of margonites/tormentors.

Yay, defeated Mallyx at last with my 7H team. Thanks for the info on the door trick - it worked perfectly. I still had to disable all enchants and hexes before I could kill Mallyx of course, but once that was done he went down fast.

Just found this thread, its not toooo old.
I was having some luck in DoA with: 1 UA monk, 1 BiP, 1 SoS, 3 E-surge mes, 1 inept mes.
It was mostly builds I'd gotten from other threads.
I'm now trying out the build from page 12. Are people still having luck in DoA with heros?

HM's difficult. NM's not too bad. It rewards solid play. I can do full runs in NM without too much stress, as long as I don't start rushing with impatience towards the end. HM's another story, and while I can do single areas in HM, I can't do a full run. If you drop in cons, I could do full runs, but it takes too much time to be worth it monetarily while keeping consets up.

I have been having successes with these builds without cons but they use mesmer or rit mercs though:
For Casters
For Melee
You can adjust the amount of defense vs offense based on your own playing style and area.

I would like to run DoA HM with a friend. She's only has a ritu and i think i have to run sin or ranger to tank? What would be the best? I did FR DoA HM a few times with my guild but im certainly not a DoA pro...
Then for the rest of the heroes, ive seen a lot of pics here about good HM runs but im not sure which builds exactly to take for the best time/safety. At least a couple of ESurge and Panic and a ritu or 2? And a nec and a monk?`
Edit: I would like to refrain from using cons as much as possible.

I've been giving this a try and doing somewhat better than before. I took out the SoS hero and added a UA since I play SoS.
Since getting my Mesmer Merc things have gotten easier, and I love running around with my old Main beside me.

after a hiatus i've gone back to attempting DoA.
Having seen primitiveworker's success i've been using those builds (i'm a monk myself)
managed Veil and Gloom in a bit under 90 mins, (getting a feel for the build and not having not done Gloom past the first quest before didn't really help timing) managed to run through foundry in about 45 mins (my first time past 3rd room) however i fell at the final hurdle... got splatted by the fury.
3 attempts later i worked out how to pull the group and sped through the City in about 40 mins (again new build, so some bad pulls)
all that remains between me and the statue is now Mallyx!

"Best" is a matter of opinion. There are plenty of threads regarding hero teambuilds so a quick search would do no harm at all.

The fastest teambuild is the best ...
Imo, anyway.

*sigh* i'm feeling really hopeless about doing doa foundry on nm. yes.. nm i am having a hard time -_-. i've tried a lot of builds, but to no luck, i have been wiping. i have a majority of the build skills and have all heros unlocked. i try to play it cautious with flagging and pulling, but one stupid mistake can really screw things up.
it's really annoying cause my main is an ele. i've tried jeydra's build, and did fine at some points.. , but i seemed to die a couple of times. i don't know if i am even playing it "right". even though as an ele, i find that i have to be the one to tank more for the party, just running around and stuff. i don't want to be too close to the heros or we would all get aoed. since the build doesn't have armor of unfeeling, i have to preserve them enough to where they survive enough to do damage.
i sometimes get that problem where i end up tanking, and i flag my heros too far from me where they don't start attacking when i need them too. i also have stupid pulling problems where i try to pull mobs and they start running away. perhaps i need to flag my heros a bit closer them? it is also annoying when i pull mobs and they ignore the spirits, me and head straight to attacking my heros.
also, are there any tips on how to avoid total party wipes such as knowing when to back out after "x" number of heros start dying? i try to avoid builds that require a lot of micromanaging, and i don't want my ele build to be the e/mo for the heros.
i hope foundry is the hardest out of the mallyx quest... if i ever beat it, i can be at ease in the other areas. i just want to complete the quest to get the conqueror title and be done with it.

I posted my builds in pvx after beating DoA including foundry.
Of course you still need to flag your heroes correctly and pull, especially in the tougher areas. There is not much micro needed besides the initial casting of shelter before pulling.
I am not saying mine is the fastest build, but you should be able to get through without using cons.
