Superb Charr Carving - Mesmer Style!
Just yesterday, after killing Murakai I noticed that i have 6 superb Charr Carvings. Normally I would sell 'em to merchant, but then I noticed that they are dropped by two groups of Charr Seekers. They can be very easly killed by Ranger, Monk, Necro... But MESMER? WITHOUT DOMINATION MAGIC? IN HARD MODE... Well, yeah. Illusion magic and interrupts are for the win!
Me/A
I use Kerrsh's Staff, but any staff with Halves Skill Recharge of Spells is good, +15 energy is also nice. Armor with +energy runes/insignias. A flatbow or longbow.
12+1+3 Illusion Magic
10+1 Inspiration Magic
rest +1 Fast Casting
[skill]Energy Drain[/skill] [skill]Conjure Phantasm[/skill] [skill]Conjure Nightmare[/skill] [skill]"You Move Like a Dwarf!"[/skill] [skill]Dash[/skill] [skill]Cry of Pain[/skill] [skill]Ethereal Burden[/skill] [skill]Kitah's Burden[/skill]
Map of the run:
1. Start of the run.
2. First spawn.
3. Second and final spawn.
How to farm - You start by running to first spawn using Dash (or Shadow of Haste, but Dash is nice without any attribute points). When you get to the hill, aggro Charr's and try to get that wall in front of you between Charr's. They have Shortbows, so be careful. Choose closest enemy. Then cast each Conjure and wait for him to use Troll Unguent, which you interrupt. Cast one of the e-management skills to make sure you have a lot of energy. If enemy survives and uses Troll again, interrupt it with second skill. Rinse and repeat, then take drops.
Another spawn is a little tricky. Move past that giant rock and shoot one of the charr's with your bow. When they are aggroed, run (can be without dash - they have shortbow range, remember?) behind that rock, but WATCH OUT - be careful not to go too far, as one of the charr's can go around it and you are dead meat. If you succeed, kill them as described above. Now you have two choices - Go through portal and do run backwards or zone back to town, sell drops/save Carvings and go farm again.
Good luck everyone, if there are some questions, ask them here or IGN Abedeus Mindbreaker.
And no credits to anyone, even if build was already created/posted here. I checked and it wasn't, so if someone claims that this build is his - leave. Now.

Exactly, you exploit the fact that ranger/paragon/caster mobs are stupid and instead of finding a way around obstacle, they just stand there and try to break the wall. Too bad that this means heroes or henches also try to destroy a pile of mud with their wands/bows/spears.

Hmm this aint that special actually
U can also farm them by only taking the group of 6 at the portal, just stand behind the rock and they can never hit u. Ive posted that 2 days after game was out.
A 55 could pwn them with in 2 second, with Spoil Victor. Or use Necrosis and some Hex spell. Just bring YMLAD for KDing the Troll Unguent.
Heres a link to my thread with various Charr Carving builds.

Heres some other dudes CLASSLESS build:

No matter how fast you farm, it is always 999% faster to just go to a town and shout wtb carvings 200g each. I got 2 masks that way in 20 mins lol.
Fastest farm would give me 25-35 carvings per hour, so that 10 hr for 1 mask. Kinda boring.

What if you have only a Mesmer, or doesn't have access to SV?
Tested few days ago, you can kill two first spawns AND that group of 6 near the portal.
One Charr is usually 30 seconds, so a spawn of 4 makes it 2 minutes. If there are six enemies, it takes 3 minutes with them.
If you don't have Factions, take instead of Kitah's Burden spell Spirit of Failure. Even better e-management and passive one. And instead of Conjure Nightmare, you can use Phantom Pain.

Is there even a point to solo farming charr for carvings? They can be killed faster in a group of 8 and carvings are non-protected drops. Don't you get about the same # of carvings you would with a full team?

If you spend an equal amount of time killing charr solo or with hench, on average you should get the same number of carvings. However if you solo them right outside a portal like in this case, you spend less time running between mobs and get a better chance of recieving non-scaled drops such as dyes and lockpicks for your time.

I usally go with a 4 man , Me plus heroes and get the siege and can rack up a bunch.
However this morning I farmed from Dalada to Sacnoth to Wardowns and only got 2 Sup carvings and 1 TOT bag so either I had major back luck or there may have been a stealth nerf with that last update.

Solo you get more drops (you do it hard mode, not normal mode), more carvings and chance for golds - sold one gold shield for 12k, a great axe for 7k... So it's also nice money farm. And exp - super-safe and easy few hundreds of exp points.

Energy unfriendly. And it requires to use Me/N, so no speed buff = slower running from spawn to spawn. You can use Illusion of Haste... but no point really.
