Farming for Normal Tomes
Ok firstly, im well aware there is a sticked link to the Normal tomes list, hopefully that will save me a thread lock
Im looking to farm some normal tomes but for the seemingly lesser dropping profs, monk, para and ele.
So I checked the stickied link, tried a few builds, nothing. Not a single tome, ive tried each of the builds in each of the areas for monk and para, still to try ele yet but really what sort of drop rate do people get on these?
I've killed 100's of mantid monitors, blessed griffins, tusked howlers (yes ive run upwards of 50 runs of each one, im not talking about just 1 run on each) which compared to say keg farming and getting mesmer tomes, it just isnt working out.
So am I doing anything wrong? Im in HM, solo and killing that profession? or do they just not drop in adundance?
P.S Yes I know i can buy from Kamadan, im likely to do that now given the drop rate im getting, im just really interested to hear other peoples tales.

Solo is the best way to go if you are farming something like this. I know during the Mandragor Root farm I farmed those Tusked Howler's solo and didnt do badly, I got 4-5 reg para tomes. Outside of the easy sin and mes tomes, warrior you could do kveldulf's.

For warrior I get a ton off the elemental in Old Ascalon and the grasps in Tombs. Enough to have 4 characters have all warrior skills I have unlocked and I don't farm that much. Maybe I am just lucky for that drop.

Cheers for the Tombs suggestion thats v.helpful, got quite a few warrior, too many mes and sin tomes.
Interesting on the snowmen, farmed the 1st 2 waves of them about 20 times with PermaSF sliver sin, nothing, 1-2 golds, no tomes. Usual?
I guess for any tomes i desperately need ill just have to keep on going, cheers for the feedback though

I agree with digggaa, this weekend I farmed the snowman lair for dwarven rep with hero's and henchies and ended up with 5 monk tomes as well as many other regular tome drops, the chests also have a lot of elites, got two elite monk, 1 elite rit, 1 elite sin, 2 elite eles, and 2 elite warrior. The run averages about 4 to 5 chests each run in HM and takes 10 to 12 min.

For ele tomes, best farm by far imo is Fire Imps in North Kryta outside LA....I do it with ranger/rt solo in HM, but I'm sure other prof's could do it, too. Remember to keep all the glowing hearts - halloween is just around the corner (2=1 party point)...and the gold weapons/charcoal are good, too

I usually get most of my war and monk tomes doing 600/smite in UW. Also if u want to spend a few extra minutes u can kill all of the coldfires for some possible ele tomes. I usually get 1-2 war tomes, 2-3 monk tomes, and 2-3 ele tomes. Not to mention the ecto drops are always nice

i have about 120 normal ele tomes from doing uwsc mainly pools area in the past 2 months.
and i've got about 53 para tomes from doing arachni's.
and recently i've gotten a lot of monk, war, ele tomes farming noob island in cantha for q8's and rare canthans (bo staff, plagueborn etc). I do it solo with a SoS spirit spammer in HM of course. I'm sure a 55 monk/necro, 330ele, 330rit, could do most of it.
other than that i just pick them up in random spots. at least for the tomes you seek, monk + para.

I solo vanq'ed the entire noob island in cantha with a SoS spirit spammer.
But i commonly farm Minister Cho's Estate (Explorable) with a spirit spammer in HM. I actually just repeatedly vanq the explorable, since it's a lot of warrior and ranger foes, which only drop 1 default item (trinket box) and some don't drop any default items. So you have a very high chance at farming Gold Bo Staves. Which if you take a look in High End atm, are selling for insane amounts of ecto. They are very rare in gold rarity, and even more rare, with good mods. They only drop from ranger, warrior, and sin foes. And since the sickened guards, peasants etc, dont have default drops, or just the 1, you have great chances of getting one. So far i've gotten 3 gold bo staves, numerous numerous numerous Plagueborn Weaps (which also sell for decent amounts). and a gold q8 max sunqua blade.
As for the other areas, since i solo vanq'd everything, the only areas i go back to in HM are areas with naga's since they also have good chances of bo/dragon staves. But i commonly will do the entire noob island in NM, since i tend to have better luck getting q7,8's in normal mode.
And, I've actually held onto a couple quests that you can only get before you pick a secondary profession. for farming in HM. Mainly... Appearance of the Naga... you can only get this quest when you're low level but if you can manage to hang on to it, it's great for HM farming. It gives you about 24 naga right outside the portal of tsumei village, run's take about 3 mins with a SoS spirit spammer.
Don't expect this to be a quick farm, it took me a long time to get my first Gold Bo Staff with perfect mods. But since I've been having fun with this I dont even bother with the halycon job anymore.
I'm addicted to farming rare Canthan's atm. Need a few more to complete my personal collection.
I'm currently at work atm, but when i get home i can post some templates/screen shot's of some of the fun.
Like i said, I'm positive there are other builds that can accomplish the same thing, maybe better, maybe faster. But I've been having a lot of fun with my Rit since the buff, and it works quite nice. Basically I use the same build for the entire island and I swap out my optional depending on the Area.
Basically I use Boon of Creation, Pain, Shadowsong, Bloodsong, Vamp, SoS, Painful Bond, Armor of Unfeeling. I'll swap out AoU for SLA(spirit leech aura), Ice Imp, Tryptaphan signet, or a heal depending on the area I'm doing. Besides basic casting weapons, I always carry a high energy staff of enchanting. and a Shield set. The shield set I use for Cho's has +10 vs fire, which really really helps. and the Shield has a Valor handle +60hp while hexed. For the mesmer's and necro's. Also, if we have favor, don't forget to take the blessings from shrine. They are extremely useful in Cho's as a Rit. It's decently quick, takes about 20-25 mins to vanq cho's, and it's fun.

Thanks so much for that farming information, seriously - I'm going to try all that as soon as I can. But regarding the quote above - are you going after shields as well, namely Echovald? Reason I ask is because I've done >90 runs vanq'ing Ferndale for faction and I've only seen 2 gold echo's drop - both single-modded , but numerous purple ones have dropped for me. Also, I've gotten a couple of nice amber aegis' from chests there, but as far as Echovalds - do you recommend a better place to farm for them (now that my kurz is maxed and thank god no more ferndale vanq'ing lol)

I like farming the Stone Scale Kirin for them, because they drop a few other rare's, like dragon kamas, etc. But i think the best place for farming echovalds is from the Mantis' cause they have fewer trophies/default drops, thus a higher chance, for these I like vanqing Melandru's Hope, cause there's lots of Mantis', and I really like Eternal Grove explorable, because there's lots of rares that can be farmed here, and I actually got a q8 Ornate Shield here.. not the crappy buckler, but the weird antique-ish looking one.
good luck
sorry about the sizes , at work didn't crop anything.
