Unwaking waters - warrior played as ranger
OK I just took my ranger through Unwaking waters mission and we had mostly casters, 2 rangers, a heal hench,a monk player and a warrior who only used ranger skills.
He basically spent the whole time firing arrows at mobs using savage shot occassionally, had a pet and used tigers fury.
My point is how is this viable? What ended up happening was the mobs ran riot on everyone eventually killing off the group leaving him and the monk who kept pulling back. The monk then died and he didnt have a res.
We all ported out of the mission and I saw him spamming the local that he was a " warrior ranger interuptor".
Is this a case of taking your secondary to extremes ? Or can someone honestly tell me there is advantages to grouping warriors who shoot arrows ?

I play my secondary if it is necessary.
W/R - if we need a ranger and have plenty of warriors already
Mo/E - if I play with only henchies
N/Me - if we have a MM and we don't need a battery, or if we need interupts
R/Mo - if we have a ranger or two and need monks (I can assist in healing)
Rit/N - if we need a MM (and there is no Necro MM around)
I have good energy management with most of my characters (Mo/E, N/Me, Rit/N, W/R).
I take the most useful skills, WoH, GoE, Barrage, etc. I hope no one considers me a horrible player for what I use (see above for when I play my secondary mostly).

Gotten Pms when spamming for monks that there half monks - lol though i think ive gotten the worst - 5 man SF before it go nerfed monk was Mo/N using almost all necro attack skills like deathly swarm, vamp gaze, etc. and healing w/ just breeze then when some1 mentioned i guess hes not a real monk the monk dropped - we didnt get very far

Today in Vizunah Square I came across a level 15 A/Rt in my party. Upon joining, he said "im a healer". I asked him why and he told me that he likes the way assassins look.

Only thing I can think of, is inorder to interupt Kun, you can't hit him/her, he/she never gets close enough for a melee attack.
Not saying its uber useful but its the best I can think of...

I had a very similar situation happen the other day except in reverse. I was working on getting my Protector of Tyria title with my ranger and was currently on the Iron Mines of Moladune mission. All I needed was the bonus, so I was willing to take anyone I could find since this seems to be one of the hardest bonuses to find a group for. The group was pretty average. Besides myself there was another ranger, 2 monks, 2 warriors, an ele, and a necro. The other ranger was a R/W and he thought it would be fun to go in to battle sword blazing. Guess who died more than anyone else in the group that mission. The stupid ranger who thought he was a warrior.

..He probably figured "We'll need ranged attackers, I'll let the rest handle themselves and own everything with my uber leet bow!!1"...Yeah, let the warriors stick to what they do best, dying.

Since GWs class system is pretty unique the first impulse of someone picking up the game is to play into thier secondary a little deeper than they should. That was definatley my mistake when I first started coming up with builds.
My first character was, I kid you not, a W/Me with Mesmer interupts. I'd mix it up in the middle of the fight then start tabbing about like crazy looking for a guy to hit with an interupt. I think my thoughts at the time were "Woah a warrior with counterspells, awesome!"
I ran into a W/R just the other day who was trying to play like ranger was his primary. I Pmed him, explained to him what Expertise was and why it was essential to being a good ranger. I don't know if he's still running around bowing mobs or not.

If you're stuck at unwaking waters with no other people around (especially no interrupters), and know that you need some disrupters against kuunavang, of course you end up filling your skillbar with some ranged skills.
When I was at Unwaking waters for the first time, I had to complete the mission with my deadly-arts-disruption A/R and 11 henchies.

Maybe too ineffective for that mission but nothing against playing around with your secondary class. I farmed loads of IDS being a W/R with BoW and Kindle Arrows. No single ice spear on me whatsoever, distance was they key and they died fast.

i dont want people to hate me for siding with him but i think this coment^ was just wrong there is no such thing as a worst player as everyone plays differently this guy may have just wanted to try somthing new mby being a warrior and taking all ranger skills is the most fun thing in the universe but no one else has tried it
if it is fun, he enjoys it, but the party dies... who cares its all just a game anyway you are supposed to have fun

P.S. dont hate me

i think he's obviously played the whole game like that.. if you want to mess with silly builds let the henchmen suffer, not your team
