Someone is new to PvP.
-Unlocked items go to PvP-only units just like unlocked skills.
-Swapping skills to your personal comfort zone is what the game is about. I use Enraging and Flail instead of Sprint Frenzy simply because Frenzy scares me.
-Axes and Hammers own in PvP due to Spike(Axe) and Disruption(Hammer) capacity. If you wanna kill someone, Evikerate them.
-Do AB to test your human PvP skills, NPC's are jokes that still run IWAY.

Well, yes and no.
Using skills you're comfortable with will make it an easier transition into PvP, but if they skills aren't as good as normal PvP skills then you may be making it harder on yourself. Really, I think it's best to just start using optimal PvP skills so you can get experience and get comfortable with them. Flail+Enraging are good skills, but they're much less flexible than Frenzy+Sprint/Rush/Dash. Flail and Enraging are powerful in skirmish though, which is what you'll often be doing in AB.

as for which weapons to take : i usually make sure i have a zealous, a vampiric, and an elemental weapon. Zealous for the obvious reason of getting energy back, vampiric for pressure/spiking soft targets, elemental for taking out warriors (bypassing their 20AL vs physical and damage reduction from shield/absorption rune heavily outweighs the extra 3 damage from a vampiric mod). suffix mod is always fortitude.
atm i usually run around with a shield with +30HP and +10AL vs something, depending on what i face (vs piercing against archers, vs slashing vs footmen, ...)

You don't see Meteor in PvP. You do see Meteor Shower, though.
But Gale is still a good skill, if underused.

my w/e build (for RA) which i swear by as a cunning killer and strong tank is,
disrupting chop,
thrill of victory,
bonettis defence,
watch yourself,
heal sig,
water trident,
conjure frost,
res sig
tactics 12 +1 +3
swords 8 +3
water magic 10
strength 2 +1
icy +15 enchant sword of fort
tac shield +30/-2 while enchant
its all about the spam of thrill of victory and watch yourself. spam water trident on runners. disrupting chop use on res sigs. when getting snapped heal sig with a massive +152hp and if scared or attacked by rangers build up adren and use bonettis and build adren again and then use a heal sig before using bonettis again and repeat. it seems to be low dmg but with a conjure skill boots dmg plenty enough to kill any single monk
right now im playing with strength skills so heres my current build
w/n
standing slash
galrath/silverwing
flail
rush
lions comfort
life syphon
life transfer
blood 12
swords 10 +1 +3
strength 8 +3
tac 2 +1
using greens victos sword 3/-1 vamp +15^50 fort and shadestone blood+1 health+30
basically use life syphon on target to degen and then standard attack. build adren for flail and spam adren attack skills. use rush when target foe moves away. lions comfort when getting hurt. use life transfer either for extra degen or as a backup when getting snapped for extra health regen. highly stance and adren orientated and is quite fun

You are absolutely right--I am new to PVP (lol); it's just that I can't take spending 600 gold for a key, and getting another gold req. 13 water wand anymore (or my favorite, purple daggers--I ran the Black Market in daggers in Factions..lol)..
So--if you say the unlocked items go to only PvP-only units, then should I create a PVP-only character? I've been using my PVE warrior in Zaishen Challenge and Elite--do I use that warrior to get faction, then spend he Faction on the PVP character?
I know I never paid attention to the PVP part of GW, and now I'm paying the price for my idiocy. So, straighten me out, people, if my knowledge is way off..
Once again, thanks all...

You should probably open up a couple slots at least for PvP toons. There is no real advantage to running a PvE toon in PvP other than having cool looking swag. If you've been using a PvE toon, you still acquire faction that can be used to unlock stuff for pvp toons. Start using the faction to unlock appropriate runes, equipment and skills. Keep in mind that all the elites you cap with a pve toon will also be available to any pvp toon you might roll up as well as weapon mods you unlock etc. I rarely keep my pvp toons around very long. The main thing I play is warrior and way back when I went through the trouble of making my warrior pvp ready so at this point I'm one of those people who use the pve toon for looks. The PvP slots I leave open are largely used for trying out different classes and for other melee roles I might be asked to run depending on builds (dervishes, sins, thumpers etc.). If you're PvE toon isn't PvP ready (all the appropriate helmet swaps, weapon and shield setups, etc) then its probably easier to go with a PvP toon.
