Because the job of a warrior is to tank? Tanking significantly reduces the damage your party takes, makes AoE (SH/RI/Splinter) do massive damage, and allows your monks to focus on one person. Also, tanking requires nothing but your naturally absurd armor level so you can use whatever you like on your skill bar.

The job of a warrior is to kill stuff, its what they are best at. They are only used as tanks by people who don't know how to play the game properly.

referring to the fact that Teutonic Paladin says: Can use whatever I like while tanking
I (just like everyone else here) do strongly disagree that tanking is good ..

Warriors end up as tanks despite being the scariest damage dealers in the game.
Just further proof that humanity, as a whole, is incredibly stupid.

Actually tank has devolved into a term equating to damage sponge imo.
Originally, tank meant armored object that hits very hard. Most older games of the genre "tanks" had high armor, high damage, slow attack speed. This was counter to things such as rogues(assassins) which had low armor, low-medium damage, high attack speed. Otherwise known as glass-cannons.
Many games began to denigrate the damage side of the "tank" and that idea carried over to GW. Now somehow, the average player seems to forget about the high damage part of a tank.
GW has tried to put the "Boom" back in the tank, even if the player base is slow to understand it.

This is not necessary true most Knights from back then wore heavy armour and the weapons well they were heavy but there were no spell castors around. It was just Knight that were Knights and this was in the 13 to 14 AD. not in the medeivil times. They were called Warriors in medievil times although lightly armoured.StormlordAlex got it right as the case of GW though Warriors are there to absorb the damage and not do much of it.That is for the Elementalists.

I do believe you need to learn more about Guild Wars if you think warriors should be absorbing damage and not dealing much of it. A bad warrior only deals damage, a bad warrior only absorbs damage. A good warrior does both. In PvE anyways. If you attempt to PvP with a tank you should uninstall.

Wiki usually gives you the answer to these kind of riddles:
Tank
As Fangclaw said... that warriors are called tanks goes back to the early days of prophecies.

It's like pop culture unfortunately. People say things cuz other ppl say it. :/
Really, I'm scared less whenever a warrior runs toward me.

No.I don't as I don't play a tank I was giving a generalization of one in GW as to the thread Avarre(sorry to Avarre if I spelled your name wrong) made about the Trinity as to W,E and Mo.
I would just like to add though you can still be made a Knight if you live where there is King or Queen as official head of state.

C'mon, those 300 were P/W. Spears, shouts, not worrying about agro - obviously pre-nerf paragons.
