I know that there's no accounting for taste, but oh dear god, why do so many people have it? I know that very few warrior armour's mix n' match, but this combination just irks me, quite possibly due to how often I see it. Quite possibly, it's also that I rather dislike Glad's, Obsidian, Primeval, Kurzick & Vabbian, all of which seem to get mixed in for the boots. It's like everything I hate distilled into one hateful avatar that I can't not rage about it.
Then there's the chaos gloves, but the EotW 'common' armours is a whole 'nother rant in and of itself.

No it isn't, but I still like it a lot.
It should have an elite version IMO...

Yes, it should have an Elite Version. It's one of the few regular armor sets that I like much better than other Elite options
(Drok's Glad's kicks the shit out of Elite Glad's any day. Much better design, imho, which is why I have Drok's Glad's with Templar Boots dyed the old Black, woot)
ShadowbaneX, let's not get started on too many armor gripes - I share many of the same views as you do, but the least we can do is try to be objective when the OP has made a request.
OP - if you honestly want to go with an Elite Armor set, do a full set. Don't do mix n match, most of them look like crap. If you don't like the Helm, don't get it (and save yourself 15k and mats in the process) because you can always hide your Helm (thank Grenth for that option - I've used it for 3 years).

If you're getting chaos gloves you should definately consider istani chest even if its non elite. If it's good, it's good, don't hold back just because its not elite. By the way Ancient armor is closest "Elite Istani" you can get.

OK. So what if it's not an Elite armor set. I was trying to go with the fact that the OP requested an Elite set, but both Winterclaw and Brazilian are definitely correct, if you like it, go for it.

Well, as your weapons are:
Mursaat Hammer - Hammers in general are better suited with full armored warriors, that said, my mind turns to one of the best complete armors (with no mix): Elite Kurzick (Elite Templar is another good one, most others could be optimized by changing headgear or something else).
Chaos Axe with Tormented Shield - Well, that combo is well suited with chaos gloves, it will make you the shiniest warrior in Tyria. Istani/Ancient chest would be required.
Fellblade with Tormented Shield - Huh, actually I don't think the weapon combination is good. A dark large sword with a shiny purple/tranparent shield is not a good idea IMO. The only thing in common is that both are animated, but that's pretty much all. I suggest thinking on Gloom Shield or Darkwing Defender for
Fellblade, and for Tormented Shield I... err, ops, no matching swords. Torm can look cool, but it's hard to find a warrior armor/weapon set that goes well with it.
That said, is important to know wich weapon will you use most. If you're using earthshaker 90% of the time I wouldn't recommend getting Chaos Gloves. In fact, I'd only recommend it if you're going to be axe warrior most of the time. The Gloves go well with Eternal Blade/Shield set.
Basically my opinion depends on the build you use the most.

I know and I usually do, it's just every now and then it overwhelms me and bursts forth in a tide of seething rage.
As for the armours themselves, well, first and foremost it depends on what you like. You might want your armour to look like a good medieval knight, tons of steel, also this is the armour that actually looks like armour (Plate & Templar). You can go for the 'wear what you kill' which is a little more savage (Dragon, Chaar Hide, Luxon, Sunspear & Norn). There's also the 'less is more' option (Glads & Vabbian). There's also the 'unspeakable inhuman dreadnaught' option (alot in here, Kurzick, Primeval, Monument, Asuran & Obsidan). Lastly the 'far too ornate to really be effective' (Silver Eagle & Canthan).
I myself am just a fan of armour that looks like real armour and my warrior has Plate & Templar, but again, that's just me.
Next off all gender does have a bit of relevance. For intance Elite Plate looks good on a male warrior, but not so much on a female. Conversely, Elite Glad's isn't too horrible on a female warrior, but the man bra just has to go.
There's also the idea of if you want your character's face covered or exposed.
After that it's down to your personal preference.
Knight, Savage, Stormtrooper, Less or Ornate.
Male or female.
Open or closed helm. Perhaps not even one of these, there's always the GW:EN headgears. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of these except in rare cases. For instance if you're going for the more 'savage' type of armour, the norn woad might fit. IMO glasses, ninja mask or bandana just aren't that great. I suppose the blind warrior isn't too bad, but the blindfold seems to go much better with a rit or a smiting monk.
Speaking of GW:EN, the armours from here are sorta just mix, match & reskin of previous armours. I'm not personally a fan, but again, up to you.
If you've got a female character though Istani is an option even though it isn't elite.

While the EotN armors are just reskins, I'm partial to the Norn Armor for male Warriors. Nothing sez "I am a BADASS" like a Sabertooth skull on your shoulder. It's the next Elite that I am gonna shell out cash for, once I farm up the Monstrous Fangs and Claws I need. If I'm spending 10k/piece just to craft it, screw buying mats.
