Warrior attributes
Hey,
Just looking for some advice on what attributes to be putting up.
I'm a warrior / monk, level 9 on prophecies and have 40 attribute points to use.
I have been putting strength and axe mastery up to the same levels, this okay? So just now I have Strength = 5, Axe Mastery = 6
Also tactics says: 'Your rank in tactics is normally 0 but is currently modified to 1'. Just wondering how it was modified to 1?
Cheers.

You probably have a helm linked to Tactics, and it gives you a +1 bonus. It could also be a Tactics +1 rune on your armor.

Keep going the way you are. You've avoided the trap that most first time warriors fall into by not speccing into Tactics, very wise!
Keep putting your points into Strength and Axe mastery and you will be golden.

Just keep putting points into str and axe and you should be fine. I wouldn't worry about monk skills too much (except for res chant if you have factions or rebirth) and tactics isn't good unless you are farming. If you have Nightfall, go over and grab Lion's Comfort as soon as you can in case you need a self heal.

As a war/mo myself i like to put rune of helm as the weapon rune at least major not alot of penalty only -35hp. but that gives you +3 on you axe.
its a cheap rune too. Also make attribute is at least as high as your weapon/shield work on one at a time for so if axe is req9 put your points in axe to +3 +6 for r9attribute, then the rest in str or tactics( whatever your shield is) building to you shield req. You only get 1/2 the benifite of the weapon/shield if the attribute is not at least = to the req, next attribute is HP Vig Spirit is a nice HP enchantment to take. Dont forget once you get to desert there is a 15point attribute quest and another once you finish Dragons Lair and get to Droks the by way of completing DL instead of the run you probably got for armor.

IMO avoid majors most of the time. The only time you want to use a major or a superior rune is that you need to hit some kind of breakpoint that gives you a sufficient reason to take a hit to health.

The only major worth running on a Warrior is if you want 14 in your weapon as well as 14 in Strength for Enraging Charge and/or Sentinel's Insignia to be protected against Weakness. Half the time when I run it that way I just take 13 in my weapon and save the health, also usually replace Executioner's Strike with Body Blow in that case.

Disagree with most of this.
1) As a general rule, major/superior runes (which lower your maximum health) aren't worth it unless you're hitting a meaningful breakpoint. For example, a major strength rune can be used to get 14 strength, which means Enraging Charge returns 4 adrenaline as opposed to 3 at 13. If you don't hit breakpoints, the bonuses granted by another attribute point (such as extra damage and crit chance) are minimal.
2) The Warriors job is to kill things, the Monks job is to keep you alive. Monk skills other than reuseable ressurection skills shouldn't ever be used. As such, you should also never have attribute points in Monk attributes.
3) If your shield requires strength, thats a good thing. If it requires tactics, thats not so good. Tactics is full of defensive stuff that you shouldn't be using outside of farming. Either put enough points in it to meet the requirement and then put the rest in strength, or just forget the shield requirement and dump them all in strength anyway. Remember the requirement only affects what it is listed next to (in this case armor), so any other bonuses (like +health or +armor) will be unaffected. Given that you've just started, it won't matter too much what you do, but if you want a self heal and Lion's Comfort isn't available, going with the first option and taking Healing Signet could be the better option.
