Ranged to Melee
Hi All
Up until now I have usually played a ranged character, my main being and Ele and my Secondary being a Ranger, with a few Necros and Monks to boot.
I rolled a Warrior a while back but never really played him, and just sorta getting back to it. Just completed Proph with the character and it was actually easier than when I completed it with a ranged, either that or I just know all the missions to well now :-).
My question is, what heroes complement a warrior build (At the moment am rounding up the skills for the follwoing warrior builds Dragon Slash / Enduring Scythe, yes straight from PvX but just new to a warrior, please let me know if these builds are no longer viable) I am looking to get all of NM / HM done with H/H and dungeons aswell hopefully.
Now as I have a second account with all Heroes unlocked I was also thinking of trying some 1 Player 6 Hero Builds aswell.
(Out of curiosity, is there any High End PVE Capable warrior builds that allow pets?)
Regards
Druid

Meh, better than running some Defy Pain/Dolyak Signet lamery.
As a melee, a Barbs/Mark of Pain curses necro will add to your DPS quite a bit, and if you're familiar with saabway or discord builds they probably have those built in already.
Strength of Honor is also a nice skill, but it's alot harder to find a place for it in a team setup, I usually stick it on a Searing Flames ele when I have a chance to run one.

Heroes that complement a Warrior: Orders (D/N, E/N, N/any), Smiter (Mo/any, Any/Mo), Curses Nec, Channeler (Rt/any, Rt/Mo covers Smiter), Command Shouter (P/any, Any/P)
I rarely run physical heroes, merely because they suck at using their skills. Casters are the best heroes. Dervs (and any other hero) work if you give them a staff or wand.

And of course, don't forget your N/Rt or N/Mo healers.
And yes, those builds are still good. Enduring Scythe in particular makes my class cry itself to sleep at night.

I beleive the best skills on a hero to damage on any melee characters are
1.) Splinter weapon, Especially if using a scythe or AoE skills IE. whirlwind
2.) Ancestor's rage, Armor ignoring high damage with quick recharge
3.) Strength and honor, Adds like 20 damage per hit

Cheers for the replys so far.
Was looking at Sabway, that seems to be a decent enough hero build for a warrior with very minimal microing, I used Discord and Spiritway with my Ele which was awesome. How does Sabway compare for when VQ H/M and trying to do dungeons?
Also I am looking to try and get the Spider for my HOM, can this be run with H/H?

ok ill give my advice after playing a warrior for 4 years
1 : Barbs and mark of pain .... abuse them xp
2 : while SoH looks amazing ... its a real hassle to micromanage en reapply if stripped =/ .... -_- and it will be striped believe me =p
3 : Splinter weapon .... get a channeling Rt with 15 channeling ... gaining 50 aoe damage with your hits with no cost to you as a player at all .... is just way to much fun to ignore xp
4: dragon slash dwarven headbutt ..... my favorite knocklock combo xp
5: If you have the possibility , find a way to add a paragorn to your hero party
anthem of envy + "stand your ground" + "fall back" + "find their weakness" and "go for the eyes !" ..... its just the right amount of suppot a warrior needs ^_-
6: best teambuild i have found
-Razah : protective communing ritual spammer
-Xandra : channeling spirit spammer ( with splinter weapon offcourse , and a few minor heals )
-Hayda : Full on warrior support + it doesn't hurt that most of her shouts affect spirits aswell xp

Spirit spammers work really nice with a warrior, they also happen to be able to carry Splinter weapon and Ancestors rage with both really work nice with a warrior.
MoP is awesome, if you cant fit into a heros bar you can put it on your own bar also it wont terribly kill your energy.
Warrior builds can vary highly depending on where you are and what you need. In most places Dragon Slash or 100b work pretty good (Enduring Scythe is great in NM and Low Level areas), if you find that you get dead alot with these builds Defy Pain can take alot of punishment but can also be painfully boring to play and if your not experienced with tanking then its likely all the baddies will just run past you and kill your Heros and henchies making it useless.
Warriors also need huge amounts of armor and gear to maintain versatility. My warrior has about 20 different types of weapons 15 different shields and 8 or 9 different sets of armor and many more headpieces. Now you can do OK if you pick one go to build and gear for that but if you want to really maximize what a warrior can do lots of gear helps.

4 years playing a warrior and you discourage someone from using SoH?
The heroes I use for a warrior are:
-SoS with AC/Splinter/SoH to buff
-MM (with MoP if you wanna micro it)
-ER ele
Just put on SoH, prot yourself and run into mobs. Works best with 100b, but anything will do good damage.

When doing HM, I usually have Xandra as a SOS, gwen (domination), and Jora (hundred blades) or talkora (WoH) for smaller areas. I was able to get guardian of tyria doing so.

indeed i do .... just because i think the putting it on is to much of a hassle
and because the point investment in smiting that u need to bring with restricts one of your hero's gravely + the secondary profession is also taken then .... ( i'm not taking a monk for just SoH)

1) You're severely underestimating how much DPS SoH is worth. Assuming 10 Smiting (at which you can't complain of attribute restrictions), SoH will give +18 damage. With a 33% IAS that increases to 24DPS. With AScan it increases to 42DPS. Given it's viable to maintain two copies on a midline hero, it's basically giving you 84DPS from one slot.
2) Smiting isn't a useless line like you imply. Smite Hex and Condition are good removals and provide a bit of AoE damage too. Judge's Insight is awesome when you can fuel it (unless you need the physical triggers, of course). If you go for a full Smiter rather than just filling a few utility slots you can do a lot more, but I don't run a Smiter unless I can't run a MB.
3) SoH doesn't get stripped as much as you think it does.

Hi All
Thanks for the replys.
I tried EFGJacks builds from his High End PvE post but I wasnt very good with it, not the best at Microing, yes I know I am a Cspace warrior, with the occasional Prot Spirit Micro, lol. Thinking about trying out Sabway for both Normal and Hard Mode.
Out of curiosity what mods do you use on your weps and sheilds?
P.S is it sacralidge to drop a skill so I can bring a pet, lol.
Cheers
Druid

A pet is pretty useless unless you're running NRA or a gimmick in my opinion. That said, efficiency and "being the best" is not what GW should be about: GW was made around the ideas of fun and originality (initially, anyway) and so if you want a pet, bring a pet. Just don't expect to have a 9th party member.
As for mods, I run literally everything. It depends largely on your build, but general guidelines are:
If you're running Sabway, don't use elemental damage on your weapon, as Barbs and what not require physical damage to proc.
Vampiric swords, zealous swords (especially if you bring Strength of Honor in your last skill slot like some people do), and zealous, sundering, or vampiric axes, zealous hammers, and probably others, but those are the ones I use regularly. 15^50 is the best inscription to have on all of your weapons. +30 HP, or in the case of Defy Pain, +7 armor vs. X element.
+45 HP in a stance or +30 unconditional HP on your shield, with -2 damage in a stance, +10 armor vs X element, or... anything, nothing matters here in the long run.
My storage is full of all kinds of weapons because I'm constantly switching mods (and builds!)
