Defender of Ascalon help
Hello! I'm running a Warrior, trying to get Defender of Ascalon, which I hope you managed to gather from the title. Just wondering if you all had any suggestions on the best way to do this. What I've been doing so far is going with the axe skills and basic ranger skills for troll unguent and the pet for free DPS.
I'm also running along side a ranger, for what that's worth, so there are two of us.

There are enough points from all the quests to get you from just short of lvl 9 to lvl 10 which is where the 1000 xp quests can be undertaken.
So either look up death leveling and get to 20 that way or do the absolute minimum number of quests then kill everything again and again till you get to the point when all the quest xp takes you to lvl 10
.
After that do the 1000 xp quests daily till lvl 20.
You stop getting xp from creatures when your 5 lvls higher so eventually it comes down to killing the charr north of the wall as not much else gives you points.

Deathleveling post-update?
No.
Tbh, it doesnt matter if you take the quests at start, mid, or 19-20,
but note if you take them early, you will have to farm a quest 30 min more / do 2-3 more daily quests .....yeah...
lvl 1-10 farm Charr at the gates
10>20 farm daily (some quests are easier, and should be farmed,) i.e charr quests, farmer hamnet (the 2 bandits outside of the ele outpost) and Untini.
Imp helps, like, alot.
GL!

http://www.presearing.com/ have everything you need - it's the presearing community.
Since you're running 2 people I suggest you try to farm charr across the gate as fast as possible. I was able to solo them as a mesmer at lvl 7 I believe. It didn't go very fast and I died a lot, but it was certainly more fun than to grind charr at the gate all day long. The fire imp helps a ton.
I'd say lvl 1-5 run around unfogging the whole map and complete all the quest NOTE: do not accept any quest rewards, you'll turn them in later (lvl 9, 17 or 19 as mentioned, depending on preference).
5-7 grind charr at the gate
7-10 charrhunting all the way
10-14 charrhunting and daily quests.
14-20 just daily quests left.
Upgrade your armor and get the headpiece from Yakkington and put a +1 attribute rune on it (very important), try to get as good weapons as possible as well. Charr bags are useful as well, more storage = more stuff to merch = profit.

Weapon source ideas
Buy your weapons from the Weaponsmith person in Ascalon City. He's just down the steps from Prince Rurik. He sells one of the best swords you can get in pre-searing called the Rinblade. Aside from that, he sells and okay axe and hammer that you may want to get.
Also, type /bonus into your chat to see if you get any weapons.

So you don't hand in any quests at all? Not even that first quest from the town crier guy and the first warrior quest? Don't you need to hand in that quest to get those first few skills?

You accept rewards from quests which give you skills/some items (armor vs. charr shield). You keep rest of them for later on to speed up lvling on "hard" lvls.
