This is just the way I set mine up, some people may disagree (and it's got general PvE in mind, not just farming):
Spear: +5e inscription, +5AL. Spear head doesn't matter as long as it isn't elemental.
Shield: Ideally +10AL vs <damage type> and +health. I don't like carrying lots of shields around so I just use -2/+45 while enchanted. I'll usually have a hero with Aegis and/or Prot Spirit so it's not hard to meet. If you want one specifically for farming you probably won't be able to ensure you're enchanted so you'll be better off with +10 vs Fire/Slashing/whatever and +30 health.

I rock the GOTY Weapons for my Rit.
Sunspear +5 Energy, +7AL vs Physical
Serrated Shield -2dmg in Stance, +30hp
Going for survivor, I haven't got any insignia or vigor runes though.
Rt/A: SoS, Pain, Bloodsong, Vampirism, Summon Spirits, Painful Bond, Dark Escape, Shadow Sanctuary
660k XP so far.

Snorph. Either go to PvX and look there or go Youtube and look up bogusdude. He's done a bunch of spirit spam farming videos.

Thanks for all the replies, some good info here.
I'm new as well, figuring stuff out on my own for now, from guru, wiki, and pivx.
Will come back here after some I play and test around a bit.
Peace,
Arai Baksynur (Ritualist)

Here's what I'd advise. Scrap the other advise, go for a /W + forget any builds, the way this builds are discovered by people playing around! Looking at skills and seeing what would work, I usually play Rt/w and love messing around with skills finding fun little builds. You'll get alot more enjoyment out of the game instead of just finding a build and using that! Enjoy and happy gaming buddy.

Seriously, the OP was asking for directions and you advise him to not ask for help?
Anyway:
Ritualist Spirit Spam
Signet of Spirits (SoS)
Bloodsong
Vampirism
Summon Spirits
Painful Bond
<filler>
<filler>
<filler>
make sure you maximize Channeling Magic as it increases the damage of painful bond, bloodsong and SoS. The filler skills can be used to augment your party with either communing spirits, one more PvE only skill or a rez (rez is usually not needed but in some situations it pays off, like when your grouped with foolish pugs).
Communing skills worth adding include:
Pain - extra cheap spirit
Armor of Unfeeling - makes your spirits take a lot less damage and not take extra damage from critical hits
Anguish / Disenchantment / Shadowsong - more expensive spirits that offer either more utility or additional firepower, you may want to add energy management like spirit siphon, in order to use these as often as SoS/Bloodsong/Pain/Vampirism.
If you opt for a PvE only skill, I recommend:
Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support- Deals some decent damage quickly, and it's Iron Palm KD will trigger from Painful Bond, can only be used once every 30 seconds so bring a staff for the inherent 20% half recharge time.
"You Move Like A Dwarf" - instantly deals damage to a target, knocks it down, and cripples it, great for farming when stuff is hitting you.
Great Dwarf Weapon - A Weapon spell that adds bonus damage to the physicals on your team and grants them a high chance to knock down enemies, amazing given its energy cost and recharge time.
If you bring one of these PvE skills or similar skills, I would recommend bringing energy management skills so you can keep painful bond on the enemy targets (I recommend Spirit Siphon or Boon of Creation, Boon requires a sizable investment in Spawning Power to be worth it though).
