Paragon confusion
Could someone clarify something for me about paragons and their leadership rank.
First I am just going to post the descriptions of leadership so you can reference where I am getting lost
======================================
"You gain 1 Energy for each ally affected by one of your Shouts or Chants (maximum 1 Energy for every 2 ranks)."
"A Shout: A motivational phrase that benefits you and nearby allies, or hinders nearby enemies." (wiki)
"A Chant: Are a type of Skill currently exclusive to Paragons which allows them to give Party Members or Allies within earshot a buff." (wiki)
Wiki Range Page: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Within_earshot
======================================
So after reviewing this it is my understanding that if you have 16 in Leadership you will get 8 energy back for each chant or shout but only if the 8 players are within range of your aggro bubble for a chant and almost on top of you for a shout.
And they don't effect minions or spirits.
So basically it is like Soul Reaping but way worse.

Actually, most ally-effecting shouts are 'Within Earshot' range as well, the shout description is really bad.
And... Leadership rocks. An adrenaline-fueled shout or chant or two, such as Go For The Eyes!, and you've basically got infinite energy.

Leadership is pretty ridiculously good. It's like a much easier to control version of soul reaping, where you can choose to hide your eneergy in charged shouts until you need it. All shouts and chants that are party-wide affect everyone within your aggro bubble, which just so happens to perfectly coincide with spear range. Some shouts, such as the infamous GFTE, will affect EVERY ally, party member or not. This includes minions. Shouts and chants that affect only one person, such as "Make Haste" will still return one energy.
Necros and paras are pretty much the only two classes that can generally rely on finishing an engagement at full energy.

Actually, it's way better, for these reasons.
1) It doesn't have the effective limit per time constraint.
2) It is less random because it applies upon the activation of a skill, rather than the defeat of a foe (or friendly animated creature)
3) Adrenal skills like Go For The Eyes and Watch Yourself can be used to reliably keep your energy high.
4) With a high enough Leadership, you don't just reduce the cost of some shouts and chants, you actually GAIN energy.
The only disadvantage from soul reaping is that it is tied directly to the number of allies. So shouts that don't affect pets or minions have an obvious disadvantage.

I believe you'll get 8 energy per ally per shout at 16 Leadership.

No you can get UP TO 8 energy for 8 allies at 16 leadership as said above. You get 1 energy per player. Thus if you use a skill like anthem of flame with 1 ally you'll get back 2 energy (you and your ally).

You get 1e from each effected person, up to a maximum allowed by your leadership score. The more people effected and the larger the group, the more energy is returned.
At 16 leadership, shouting 'There's Nothing to Fear!' while your group of 8 is in earshot, you'll return 8e.
Likewise if shouting 'I am the strongest!' with 16 leadership, you'll only return 1e.
So if you use TNtF in a 4 person area, say in Ascalon, you'll only return 4e, regardless of whether your leadership is at 16 or 8.
There is a caveat with some shouts and chants in the group that is affected so you have to watch what is affected whether it is party members, allies or self. For example, with 'Go For the eyes!" if in a 4 person area and there is an MM with 4 minions, the 16 leadership para will return 8e (since minions are allies, assuming that the minions are within earshot) while the 8 leadership para still returns only 4e.
Where Soul Reaping has a benefit is it triggers on the death of something, in that if something dies (other than a spirit cast by someone else), there is a yield of energy until the 3 per 15s rule kicks in. Since Leadership requires that you shout/chant, Vocal Minority cast upon the Paragon turns the e-tap completely off and Well of Silence forces the Para to move to gain energy.
Cheers,
TB

Yeah leadership is good, but it is fairly restrictive as it only works with a few skills. Really really nice when used with adrenaline shouts, even with the slight nerf.

A few skills? The majority of the Paragon's skills provide Leadership's benefits. Nearly all Command, Motivation, and some Leadership are Chants/Shouts. It's almost hard to not run out of energy as a Paragon. Throw in the right chants/shouts that need energy and adrenaline, mixed with spear attacks with energy and adrenaline, and you can spam spam spam!
