The utility of a paragon outstrips a dervish by a lot.
I am assuming you are asking about PvE play here. A paragon is far and beyond the more powerful PvE character. Unlike the dervish, a paragon is a high-influence character. Yes, dervishes can cause some limited AoE with his scythe and enchantments. That's about it. Generally speaking, in PvE you'd prefer to go with a character capable of influencing a lot of things over only a few.
Putting it simply, a dervish does more damage than a paragon, individually. With any sensible team build, the damage buffs of a paragon will far outclass this individual damage while at the same time providing excellent defensive utility.

Though I confess because all the ameritroxes go for raw power nothign is compatible with it anymore and in a month or so I'll be just another fool with a 8800 18 weeler truck instead of a smart man's bag of holding.
PS.
This post is not off topic at all, you're imagining it.

Dervishes can be insane tough. can spamm major dmg (doesnt even need to be AoE) and have some enchants that can grant you some monk absence, and mystic regeneration is just GODLIKE for dervishes. (Reapers sweep with 15 scythe mastery will make you hit a lot of 120+'s on casters <3.
havent played para yet, maybe i shud.

Paragon is good till someone or foe casts anti-shout spells, then the para is as good as a worthless pet. The other bad thing I dislike about paragons is their femaleish armor. I preffer pants on males, skirts on females, not skirts on both....
