P/R With a Pet
I have been messing around a bit with this build. Normall I have 12 Beast Mastery and 12 Spears. It seems pretty solid, but I was just wondering if anyone had an advice or suggestions. If anyone has tried this before I'd love input.
Spear of Lightning
Spear of Redemption
Blazing Spear
Enraged Lunge
Scavenger Strike
Otyugh's Cry
Call of Haste
Comfort Animal

my build is a lil different, and min's actually a R/P build but i don't see much of a difference in effectiveness.
BM 11
SM 10
Expertise 9
spear of lightning
barbed spear (i prefer this so i can apply condition for scavenger strike)
blazing spear
predators pounce
scavenger strike
Rampage as One (or in higher damage areas Heal as One)
call of protection/otyugh's cry (depends on sitution)
comfort animal/sunspear rebirth signet
though i have been testing Strike as one with my sin, and might be thinking of maybe adding this with my ranger pet builds
now if you have access to EOTN PvE skills, you will be getting responses of add asuran scan

hi, i use the following build, it's very solid damage build with a pet.
Paragon/Ranger
Attributeskill points can be off)
12+1+2 Spear Mastery
8+1 Command
10 Beastmastery
Spear of Lighting (damage spear attack)
Barbed Spear (condition)
Blazing Spear (some more damage and a condintion)
Enraged Lunge (elite and main damage skill)
Scavanger Strike (some extra damage and energy gain)
Call of Protection (Damage reduction for pet)
Never Rampage Alone(PvE Sunspear Skill)
Comfort Animal
i use this build now for a half year, the only problem is the energy magement sometimes. just make sure that you use Scavenger Strike @ right time and use a zealous spear for a better energy magement.
greets mirri

This is very solid imo, it is the #1 most damaging hero build I have developed for paragons so far, it gets ~72dps in my testing. PvE skills will increase the damage of course. I have some variations on this theme that might interest you as well.

edit: for AB you will probably want to slot Run As One and some form of crippling.

I run:
12 spear, 12 beast, 8 leadership, and 9 command (with runes taken into account)
Spear of Fury
Spear of Redemption
Blazing Spear
Go For The Eyes
Ferocious Strike
Never Rampage Alone
Symbiotic Bond
Comfort Animal
Ferocious Strike is the better elite imo for p/r's because it gives a more reliable source of energy... which is important for maintaining Never Rampage Alone. The Adrenaline gain is nice too.

that could work. i will explain my reasoning though.
i chose scavenger strike because at 12 beast mastery it gives 4 more energy, only 3 less damage, and is not elite. ferocious does give you adrenaline but 1 strike every 8 seconds is not a major advantage imo. i would rather have enraged lunge which gives more damage, deep wound, and faster recharge. the condition requirement for scavenger strike is easily met because enraged lunge gives unconditional (and spammable) deep wound. because of all this I run 14+ spear, 12 beast, and the rest in leadership. Leadership doesn't really matter for me because all of the energy management is from Beast Mastery which is set as high as possible.
if anyone from Anet is listening, I think Ferocious Strike could use a larger adrenaline bonus to make it more attractive relative to other ranger skills. The energy gain also needs to be at least equivalent to the non-elite Scavenger Strike. Several other people have mentioned the need for increased adrenaline on the Ferocious Strike discussion page.

My build isn't much different from these others.
Barbed Spear
Blazing Spear
Spear of Fury
Never Rampage Alone
Heal as One
Scavenger Strike
Troll Ungent
Spear Mastery: 12
Beast Mastery: 10
Wilderness Survival: 8
Pretty high damage. I have a dire Black Moa hitting around 30's. Build hitting around 90's with Spear of Fury. Spread bleeding with barbed for Scavenger Strike (+13 nrg) and for Spear of Fury bonus Adren. Can easily maintain Never Rampage Alone for constant 25% IAS and +2 HP regen.

Ether Renewal on a R/P? That uses no enchantments?

I think the ER comment was suggesting that it is not worth bringing a self heal (HaO); a hero with ER would be more beneficial.

That would make sense but HaO also brings your pet along with you and works as a rez for it, just seems there's nothing else worth taking as an elite, needing to replace another skill for Comfort Animal.

Don't forget the extra lifestealing that Heal As One does.
In my testing I got more damage out of Enraged Lunge, and deep wound besides... so if you are looking for pure damage Enraged Lunge is it. However if you need a self-heal (solo farming, RA, AB?) then Heal As One is probably the best choice. You can still get your deep wound with merciless spear or other skills.

I recommend more damage.
In RA, you wouldn't want to go far without a healer of some sort. In AB, you can always be sure there is a dedicated healer for you. Although it will put more strain on the healer, I would like to point out that Paragons or Rangers are not usually prime targets making HaO less effective.

well for the record, i agree with you... i tend to prefer more damage and leave healing to professions specialized for it. the spammable deep wound and damage from Enraged Lunge is hard to pass up. however Heal As One also has the benefit of bar compression (healing for you, healing for the pet, rez for pet) and in PvE it adds bonus lifestealing as well. This is hard to pass up if you need space on the bar for other skills... so I can see a use for both of them, though enraged lunge does more damage.
on a related note, if you have seen the sorry state of AB lately you'll realize that having a healer with you is far from certain. it's difficult enough to even get a game started.

hey all -
i did another test with Heal As One vs. Enraged Lunge with a slightly different build and HaO actually gives higher dps according to master of damage, though he does not include Deep Wound in the damage calculation. If you have multiple characters with this sort of build then HaO is definitely better because of bar compression and because the deep wound doesn't do anything if it is applied to a target that already has deep wound, whereas the lifestealing from Heal As One always works. HaO allows you to bring another skill instead of Comfort Animal, and you could fill that slot with Merciless Spear, Brutal Strike, Disrupting Lunge, etc.
Anyways the player version of this gets up to 130dps without any buffs from other players, it is very strong imo. As discussed in another thread I was able to solo-vanquish Plains of Jarin with a variant of this build as well.

Any suggestions of what we can do to replace Signet of Infection and "I am the Strongest" if we don't have Eye of the North? Poisonous Bite in place of Signet of Infection?
