I am making a Monk/Necro, need advice
hello, I have stared a new character (monk/necromancer) and am a lvl 4 in pre-searing. The direction I am heading now is healer monk with some smiting and death magic necro. Is this a doable build or a dead end? I am really liking it so far and think it might work. I plan on having the first 4 slots consist of 3 healing and smiting spell and the last 4 death magic necro, or maybe just the last 3 slots necro.

As I evolved my monk I went mainly through using blood line from necromancer - well of blood, a few life steal attacks which you can get away with at low levels. Though much later this was pared down to the signature Mo/N skill, Offering of Blood. There are also some worthwhile skills under curses which will reduce the damage you have to heal - enfeeble (cause weekness), shadow of fear, etc. One option you have with the death attribute line is consume corpse - which will give you a net energy boost and can teleport you out of immediate danger in some situations, but in general many skills under death I've not found very helpful to the primary task of a healer character - maybe others would have suggestions here. If you were thinking of raising minions, it's not practical to do that without being a primary necromancer.

Wells, maybe?
People in PvE don't like it if you go with anything but healing/protecting on a monk. I think Death Magic is a dead end on a Monk, normally; the points could be of better use in Blood Magic.

I would personally concentrate on just healing or prot. In the early stages of my monk, (also Mo/N), I never used skill from the second profession and the only one I use now is OOB.
I would suggest that your main objective should be keeping those alive that are more suited to do the damage.

As a monk primary, you are going to be expect to heal. It's too bad you didn't become a N/Mo. Then, you could use death magic and healing. I did that and used healing like Heal Other/Word of Healing, Heal Party, and Heal Area and death spells varied but mostly stuck to minions. The good part was when minions were not really viable (like Dragon's Lair) I could fall back to healing. However, as a monk primary, you really don't have the luxury of using offensive spells as you need to put most of your points into healing/protection and divine. Plus, you need help from your secondary for energy management (which is why most look to mesmer's inspiration line, but offering of blood still works in PvE).

Lol, I tried the exact same thing when I was starting, changed after 2 days because you get grief from your parties, and the dmg really doesn't make up for the healing you could have.

I have a Mo/N, but I don't carry any N skills because they didn't really synergize well with the monk skills. When I get a chance to change secondary, I plan to change it to Me for the energy management skills.
So if I was to do it again, I'd create a Mo/Me.
