unless you have anything specifc to gear towards i would go monk. it will help keep yourself alive, you can bring a hard res better than a SIg. and also it is a good secondary for a MM.
If you are going for curses/hexes Mesmer is a good second choice.

Necromancer\Monk is a good choice like he said, I am one myself. I do Orders. My friend is a Necromancer\Mesmer. I've seen some good builds for Minion Masters as Necromancer\Elementalist.

Necromancer/Ritualist - heals, hard rez, additional minions (spirits), removes conditions

Necromancer/Monk - used mainly for MM, heals, removes hexes, hard rez, removes conditions, 55 necro

Necromancer/Ranger - faster recharge for MMing, removes poison, disease and blindness, portable corpse (pet), movement

Necromancer/Warrior - meleemancer, defenses, movement

Necromancer/Mesmer - defenses, energy management, condition spreader, hex spammer, hex remover

Necromancer/Assassin - Teleportation, condition remover (but enemy must have a condition too), movement

Necromancer/Elementalist - defenses, movement

I have a N/Me, but depending on what you want to do with your necromancer, should determine what 2ndary you want/need.

Not sure how the Paragon or Dervish may help the necro. I'll see when Nightfall comes.

Pretty much like everyone has said. If you want to get in a party easy, go N/Mo or N/R for MM and you have to be N/Me if you want anyone to go with you to the UW. Not saying you can't get a party otherwise, but they're the easiest. People won't even ask what your build is. If you don't go MM or SS you can go any secondary, though people may ask you what your build is, or if you could take certain skills along.

since you just started i'de say go monk secondary because you can get your heals in for the beggining of the game so you can stay alive and when you get to a higher lvl you can 55 or mm...N/Mo has alot of good builds except for SS nec which is N/Me but remember you can change your secondary later in the game. but at the begining i'de say go monk!

I tend to use N-skills only (except for SS echo ). But like the others all say, Mo makes it a bit easier to keep yourself alive.

Luckely you can always change second prof and buy the skills for the build you want to play

btw enjoy your N
