Heavy Degen Necro?
Hiya folks,
Lately (with the addition of Heros) I've been thinking of giving up being a MM and switching to a degen necro. Problem is...I have no clue where to begin! Would anyone happen to have a link or a build to start me off? (and yes I did use the search function and didnt have much luck heh) I mainly do PvE so any help that you could offer would be very much appreciated.
Thanks guys/gals!

How ironic that I've been thinking of ditching degen in favor of MM ever since I capped flesh golem.
My current degen necro is this:
N/Me
curses 12+3+1
domination 10
soul reaping 8+1
arcane echo
spiteful spirit
reckless haste
insidious parasite
desecrate enchantments
defile enchantments
...then some mesmer interrupts/backfire or elemental protection
Sometimes I'll drop arcane echo and/or defile enchantments for other mesmer skills if my party doesn't have a mesmer and we need one for the mission.

or u skill on death magic instead of domination (i have death magic on 13...)
and skill on putrid explosion (aoe dmg of 104) and deathly swarm...
if u wish, u can do 2nd class monk instead of messmer, although u cannot run 2 or 3 spitefuls without the echo, you can take a rezz skill with ya, which might be usefull sometimes as well... your decision^^
but if you have death maic on 13, your soul reeping is quite low, therefore you need a hero or teammate with br....

This has nothing to do with degen, get your terms right. It's simply an SS build.
@OP. Try:
Blood- 12, Curses- 11, SR- 14
1- Life Siphon
2- Reaper's Mark
3- Parasitic Bond
4- open
5- open
6- open
7- Sig of Lost Souls
8- Res
You can take w.e. utility skills you want in the open slots. Shadow of Fear, Blood of the Aggressor, and Enfeebling Blood are good examples of utility skills.
Since you asking for PvE mostly, you should def try Rotting Flesh/Well of Suffering. You can also add in Suffering in the mix. Use Glyph of Lesser Energy and Sig of Lost Souls to deal with the high cost. Tainted Flesh is a good choice of elite for such build but don't ignore skills like Toxic Chill for additional degen power. I'm currently using Rotting Flesh + Searing Flames inbetween 2 of my heroes. It works great. But don't attempt to spam SF on a Necro.

First. Bartwart thats not rly degen.
Second u could use somethin like wat i do and go:
Health = about 420
Energy = about 48
Attributes:
Curse - 16 (12+1+3)
Blood - 13 (12+1)
Soul Reaping - 5 (3+2)
Equipment:
Scar Patterns - energy bonuses
Runes:
Superior Vigor
Superior Curse
Minor Blood
Major SoulReaping
Skills:
-wither (10 energy, 2 cast time, 10 recharge)
-malaise (5 energy, 2 cast time, 2 recharge)
-parasitic bond (5 energy, 1 cast time, 2 recharge)
-life siphon (10 energy, 2 cast time, 2 recharge)
-well of blood (15 energy, 2 cast time, 2 recharge)
-blood renewal (5 energy, 1 cast time, 10 recharge)
-awaken the blood (10 energy, 1 cast time, 45 recharge)
-rez sig (3 cast time)
Use:
-first cast awaken the blood.
-then cast wither and mailaise that will cut off enemy energy regen with -4 energy degen and -6 health degn.(stats w/o awaken blood activated)
-then cast parasitic bond followed by life siphon that will cause additional -4 health degen for a total of -10 health degen.(stats w/o awaken blood activated)
-cast well of blood if there is corpse and u or ur party need health.
cast well of blood before u run into battle and whenever ur not being atked.
I made this build for pvp originally found through usin on hero that it works in pve more or less if worried about energy you only really need to use wither and mlaise others are just there if u want more degen.

Reaper's Mark
Faintheartedness
Suffering
Parasitic Bond
Rest is optional. Get your curses to 14-15 and 14 soul reaping is a must for getting RM to reach -6degen. If you're just tryin to degen, non-max curses is completely fine since they last for a long time anyways. Use your 2ndary prof and remaining points for whatever you like, such as healing.

What I've been seeing lately is something like this:
Malaise
Soul Barbs
Life Transfer
Life Siphon
Vampiric Gaze
Signet of Lost Souls
Hm don't think the rest matters too much.

RM has Wither beat tho. More degen, long duration, feeds you nrg when your target dies. Despite all the buffs I still think Wither is not apar. I think they might need to push the degen to -5.

I'll agree with you on that, as I don't know anything about NF, and as I said, Xenoranger's build was prior to NF.
-5 on Wither would be nice, but a bit overboard, as -5 energy degen could hurt a lot in PvP.

Ok so I think I've got 2 that I'm trying to decide between:
#1,
(C) Faintheartedness - 10e: Hex Spell. For the next 5...29 seconds, target foe attacks 50% slower, and that foe suffers Health degeneration of 1...3.
(S) Reaper's Mark (Elite) - 5e: Elite Hex Spell. For 30 seconds, target foe suffers -1...5 Health degeneration. If that foe dies while Hexed with Reaper's Mark, you gain 10...18 Energy.
(B) Life Siphon - 10e: Hex Spell. For 12...22 seconds, target suffers - 1...3 health degeneration, and you gain + 1...3 health regeneration.
(C) Malaise - 5e: Hex Spell. For 5...29 seconds, target foe suffers -2 Energy degeneration and you suffer -2 Health degeneration. Malaise ends if target foe's Energy reaches 0.
(S) Signet of Lost Souls: Signet. If target foe is below 50% Health, you gain 10...82 Health and 1...8 Energy.
(B) Well of Blood - 15e: Well Spell. Exploit nearest corpse to create a Well of Blood at its location. For 8...18 seconds, allies in that area receive +1...5 Health regeneration.
(B) Awaken the Blood - 10e: Enchantment Spell. For 20...39 seconds, you gain +2 Blood Magic and +2 Curses, but whenever you sacrifice Health, you sacrifice 50% more than the normal amount.
(N) Ressurection Signet: Resurrect target party member. That party member is returned to life with 100% Health and 25% Energy. This signet only recharges when you gain a Morale Boost.
Blood Magic: 14 (10 + 1 + 3)
Soul Reaping: 12 (11 +1)
Curses: 11 (10 +1)
#2,
(C) Enfeeble: Target suffers from Weakness for 5...17 seconds.
(D) Virulence (Elite): If target foe was already suffering from a Condition, that foe suffers from Disease, Poison, and Weakness for 3...13 seconds.
(N) Epidemic: Transfer all negative Conditions and their remaining durations from target foe to all foes adjacent to your target.
(C) Shadow of Fear: Target foe and all adjacent foes attack 50% slower for the next 20...39 seconds. (Going to switch this out for Meekness when I find the darn skill heh)
(C) Mark of Pain: For 30 seconds, whenever target foe takes physical damage, Mark of Pain deals 10...34 shadow damage to adjacent foes.
(C) Enfeebling Blood: Sacrifice 10% maximum Health. Target foe and all nearby foes suffer from Weakness for 5...17 seconds.
(S) Signet of Lost Souls: Signet. If target foe is below 50% Health, you gain 10...82 Health and 1...8 Energy.
(N) Ressurection Signet: Resurrect target party member. That party member is returned to life with 100% Health and 25% Energy. This signet only recharges when you gain a Morale Boost.
Death Magic: 14 (10 + 1 + 3)
Soul Reaping: 12 (11 +1)
Curses: 11 (10 +1)

Just keep in mind that you can only do a maximum degen of -10 to any single target. Any additional degen caused by skills only counters any regen your target experiences. With this in mind, you will want a build that can spam degen without wasting energy/time on creating more degen than your target will experience.

Verios, since you said you do mostly PvE, let me just say this. Mark of Pain is GOD. Don't let the pope tell you otherwise.
I would go with the second build, even though degen is hardly involved.
Your first build looks better for a Random Arena type thing.
Your second build has Mark of Pain, which I like it for. Enfeebling Blood is also a very strong skill.
However - I would really drop the whole Virulence/Epidemic thing. "Adjacent" foes is actually a pretty small range, and the recharge on Virulence prevents it from being too useful in PvE - my opinion.
Shadow of Fear was nice before Meekness came out. Meekness is just the rocks. Combined with Enfeebling Blood, you have just completely shut down all melee opponents. Curses are so wonderful.
