SS builds are good for PvE. Try something like this:
[skill]Spiteful Spirit[/skill][skill]Arcane Echo[/skill][skill]Price of Failure[/skill][skill]Enfeebling Blood[/skill][skill]Insidious Parasite[/skill][skill]Spirit of Failure[/skill][skill]Channeling[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
I don't claim that this build is perfect... far from it. But you're in a bit of a bind without Factions and Nightfall skills (Signet of Lost Souls and Reckless Haste in particular).

By far the easiest way to get to level 20 in Prophecies is playing a MM necromancer, which is usually a N/Mo. However there isn't really any big issues with using N/Me for the job either.
A simple beginner type build for MM N/Any would consist of:
Animate Bone Horror, Blood Of The Master, Dark Bond, Deathly Swarm, <Four optional skills>
Punch up Death Magic as high as possible and invest a lot in Soul Reaping as well. Forget about Blood and Curses. A low level character should learn the discipline of working with one defining attribute.
Buy a Superior Death Magic rune and add it to your +DM headset.
N/Me is the classic combination for Curses necromancers, no other combination comes close in effectiveness. However at low levels you simply don't have enough skills available to create a viable Curses build.
Good luck!

my very first char was a N/Me (and I never ever played a RPG before) ... it's hard in the beginning, but once you get to lvl 20 they realy kick ... well you know .
I also used to play mostly solo but once I found a few good players/GW buddies, that char became so much more powerfull/usefull.
anyway ... have fun playing a N ... once out of PRE give us a shout ... always there to help new born Necro's

Personally I'd suggest not going with MMing at the beginning.
1) Energy Intensive, you don't have enough energy to constantly create minions, or keep them alive
2) Sacrificing, with low health and a beginner's knowledge of the Necromancer, you may sacrifice yourself to death very quickly
3) Low Death Magic, you can obtain the maximum number of Minions = to the level of your DM/2 + 2. So at lvl 1, you can control up to 2. At lvl 16 you can control upto 10.
Blood is your friend, healing with damage application. I used this with illusion to destroy my enemies when I created my N/Me.
I never found my N/Me a mistake, actually, I found her to be one of my funnest characters. At the end (getting all of the Prophecies N/Me elites and skills), I could:
1) MM
2) SS
3) Curse + Domination
4) Curse + Illusion
5) Blood + Illusion
6) Blood + Domination
7) Curse + Inspiration
8) Blood + Curse
9) Illusion + Domination
10) Illusion + Inspiration
11) Domination + Inspiration
12) Blood Spike
13) Battery Supporter
14) Team Heal Supporter (using Wells)
15) Condition Spreader
16) Evil Runner
17) E-denial
There are probably other uses for this combo, but hope this gives you some insites on how awesome N/Me combo is.
Good luck and have fun!

When you get farther in the game try this variation of the above post but real fun and fast paced in large mob areas (Sorrows Furnace)
[skill]spiteful spirit[/skill] [skill]insidious parasite[/skill] [skill]Parasitic Bond[/skill] Spam skills [skill]enfeebling blood[/skill] [skill]empathy[/skill] use on warriors when waiting for spiteful to recharge [skill]backfire[/skill] Healers love this / add spiteful for even more fun [skill]Desecrate Enchantments[/skill] [skill]Resurrection[/skill]
Energy management is a concern when you can not keep up the body count. You may want to look to the Mesmer line for ideas.
Only variation I use is [skill]Signet of Lost Souls[/skill] instead of Rez or Desecrate when I am solo Unfortunately it is a Nightfall skill
Good luck

You're in luck, the two main PvE necros has their best elites in Prophecies; [skill]Spiteful Spirit[/skill] and [skill]Aura of the Lich[/skill] (for MMing, AotL beats out Flesh Golem easily)
My MM build that I ran ) without Nightfall was [skill]Animate Bone Fiend[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Horror[/skill][skill]Deathly Swarm[/skill][skill]Aura of the Lich[/skill][skill]Blood Renewal[/skill][skill]Dark Bond[/skill]A Res skill, optional.
Problem for a MM is that without [skill]Signet of Lost Souls[/skill] is that you'll get into mana problems since you have no e-management and fiends cost a huge amount

Thanks for all the great answers so far! Im level 13 now and in Yaks Bend. It has been a fairly easy ride but its getting tougher now.
This is my build right now:
Blood: 5
Death: 9+1
Soul: 1
Curses: 1
[skill]Vile Touch[/skill][skill]Vampiric Touch[/skill][skill]Vampiric Gaze[/skill][skill]Deathly Swarm[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Horror[/skill][skill]Putrid Explosion[/skill][skill]Power Leak[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
I start the battle with Deathly Swarm mostly. Then i throw a Gaze. If there are alot of enemies i explode one or two corpses. If the enemy gets close i use one of my touch spells. When the enemy has 1/3 life left i use my standard attack together with the damage from my henchmen. After the battle i raise a few Bone Horrors and proceed to the next group of enemies.
Im still using the first armor upgrade in Ascalon (15 armor on all pieces). Im not getting hurt very often so i have not found a reason to upgrade.
My weapon is a Purple Truncheron 9-14 dmg (requires 4 Blood Magic)
My off-hand is a Purple Jeweled Chalice, +6 Energy, +26 Health
Is there anything i should change in order to make my character better? I appreciate all advice you can give me.
My name is Necromantica De Hex in game, im a member of the Heroes Die Last guild. Say hello if you see me!

I'd suggest that you drop putrid explosion. It removes a corpse.
Drop Vile Touch because it forces you to get into melee range. Do you have access to Blood of the Master? If so, equip it. If not, you'll find that your minions die quickly.
I'm guessing you also do not have the spell Taste of Death yet.

Beware! Touch spells can be very powerful, as they ignore armor and cannot be blocked
But you have to remember that as a necromancer, you are fragile or "squishy" as we all lovingly call spell casting classes.
That being said, since you need to be right beside your target to use them, you might take serious damage.
You CAN get access to Blood of the Master before you get to the jungle region
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Blood_of_the_Master
And if you do the Vilany of Galrath quest, then go back there with the quest completed, Verata will be there, kill him and you can get a bunch of regular Minion Master skills you woudnt get untill the game is nearly completed like Verata's Sacrifice. May not be the best anymore but may be of help for a Minion Master starting out
you can also get Animate Bone Fiend before the shiverpeek area from capping the skill from a boss near the Gates of Kryta Mission

Bring Power Drain instead of Power Leak imo. Energy Denial doesn't really work too well on most PvE monsters since they seem to have a large amount of innate regen.
