Does it have to be a hyena? If all you want is dire, just get a spider. They come at lvl20 and you just have to do enough quests till you get dire rather than elder or hearty. Plus, necro + spider seems like a good fit
If you want to have fun playing an inferior build, by all means do so. But just because people are criticizing your build doesn't mean they're being rude. They're just truthful.
P.S. Don't waste our time with reports like this, or else this is going to happen to your thread:
Don't use a hyena use a spider or rat, they make the coolest necro pets by far, and Rats are just as easy to cap as hyenas.
Anyway, I had some fun with this one
[build prof=N/R death=12+3+1 beast=11 soul=6+1 name="Predatory Discord"][Poisonous Bite][Malign Intervention][Discord][Verata's Gaze][Predatory Bond][Comfort Animal][Charm Animal][/build]You are supposed to run it along with a MM hero.
It used to be that pets provided exploitable corpses so the MM would also gain an advantage from you instead of just keeping your minions alive for you.(I let the pet die intentionally as pets don't get morale penalties except in PvP)
[[Mark of Rodgort] on a fire ele hero also works wonders to support a discord build.
It's outclassed by a curses build with similar intent, but the prime ranger BM build [[Enraged Lunge]{2.13 attack time 5 sec recharge} deals only up to 80+(pet attack) damage, while [[Discord]{2 sec attack time, 2 sec recharge} deals 115+(pet attack) damage and they are both pretty conditional as to dealing their damage.
(except [[Discord] doesn't have the advantage of complete controll over the conditional or a pacifier amount of damage in case you don't meet the optimal conditions).
And you get minions without needing corpses, add [[blood of the master] instead of [[Predatory Bond] to make the best use of those, but I think not having a rez is bad enough, life saccing and not having a self heal at the same time is just asking for it...

I prefer the hyena for my Necromancer, actually, so I'll stick with him.
Anyway, the original reason I got him was as an extra corpse as a Minion Master. After the update that made it so pets no longer leave exploitable corpses, I stopped bothering to do anything with him. I've been having fun with the first build that Kyomi posted, but I want to replace "You Move Like a Dwarf!" with something. For now, I'll use Predator's Pounce, but I'm keeping my eye on different skills. After this post, I'm going to get an Undead Spear to help add physical damage for Barbs and Mark of Pain, then I'll look for another skill in place of Predator's Pounce.
EDIT: I changed my mind about Predator's Pounce. I'm adding Rigor Mortis instead, and using Call of Haste instead of Otyugh's Cry. I can maintain Call of Haste, and with 14 Curses (I'm using my SS headgear with +1/+3), I can effectively maintain Rigor Mortis with only a two second window where I won't have it up. It looks like it may be energy intensive, so I'll have to test it.
As for your post, Holymasamune, I reported the people who were rude because they essentially called me stupid and contributed absolutely nothing to the topic... Similar to your own post. Calling anyone "stupid" is rude, whether you realize it or not. I'm sure you would be offended if I implied the same about you.

If you can't handle criticisms of your build being inferior and have a conspiracy theory thinking people are insulting your intelligence, then that's your problem.
You reported zling and eddie, and both suggested that ranger primaries would be a much better beastmaster because expertise lets you use better skills.
If I asked for a monk healing beastmaster build, I would not be offended at all if people said it was a bad idea.
Now, now. There's no need to be rude. Someone wants to try something a little different. Leave 'em to it. Personally I would rather run my build on my necro than on my ranger simply because of the SR benefit, as 11 points in Expertise would be rather wasted since it only effects 2 of 7 skills, 3 of 8 if you decide to put a pet skill in the last slot.
Yeah I like to do things differently. So?
I wasnt being rude, read my message again and hopefuly you'll understand your mistake...
but meh, I'll just emphasize it for you:
there's a fine line between unorthodoxy and stupidy and the build you want crosses that line
never said he was stupid or anything, just saying the truth, the build he seeks is stupid...

First of all, I'm not male, so don't call me "he". Secondly, they didn't just say "ranger primary would be better." They said "it's stupid", even AFTER I said that I knew ranger primary was better for beastmasters. The build is for FUN when I'm with heroes and henchman. I use real builds with real people. If you have nothing to contribute to the topic, please don't post at all.
Anyway, thanks to Kyomi, I now have a build that is half Necromancer with three ranger skills and one PvE only. The build works well, and isn't what I would call "stupid" when I wish to play it with H/H.

Alright, I misinterpreted, my mistake. No sleep will do that to ya.
This thread fails on so many levels it isn't even funny.
None of the posters said "you're an idiot". They mentioned that the idea was not a good one. They were absolutely correct.
You mentioned that, and I quote: "I'd really like to incorporate a pet into a good build, but I can't seem to find one that can utilize the Necromancer primary to its full potential. Everything I consider is better used on a Ranger primary." Yes. People are agreeing with you. They are telling you that they can not either come up with anything, because the mechanics of the game are what they are.
I can only think of one serious build ever using a N/R with a pet, and that's the DoA BiP team farm build, which is an extremely gimmicky character running around with 1 hit point health.
Also, you mentioned that you can "almost keep up Rigor Mortis all the time" with a duration of 18 or 19 and a 20 second recharge. That obviously means you aren't capable of killing more than one foe every 20 seconds.
That's really all I need to know.
In response to your posts about "reporting people", I have reported every one of those posts for trolling, as in, "trying to pick a fight."
[build prof=N/R Curses=10+3+1 beast=11 soul=10+1 name="Curses Beasmaster"][Barbs][Mark of Pain][Rigor Mortis][Great Dwarf Weapon][Call of Haste][Heal as One][Signet of Lost Souls][Charm Animal][/build]
Master of Damage: You did 5,396 damage over 153 seconds, for an average of 35 damage per second. Your best damage in a single second was 69, done at 34 seconds. Death occurred after 18 seconds.
That was with a level 15 Hearty pet. I'm going to get rid of this hyena and tame another to level up as Dire and see how that goes.
Again, people, please don't post unless you can contribute to the topic.
Moloch, I wasn't trying to "pick a fight." I'm trying to get rid of the people who have nothing at all to contribute and who only want to tell me how "bad" it is. As for "That obviously means you aren't capable of killing more than one foe every 20 seconds."... I haven't tested it on multiple targets. I stated earlier that I was ONLY trying it out on the wurms outside of Boreal Station until I had a level 20 pet.
Also, CLOSE PLEASE. See first post.

Sheesh, just calm down already. Ive seen much ruder posts by far, adn as he didnt call YOU stupid, just the bar then you really dont have a reason to be offended.
As you are plannign on doing this with a H/H party you just need to bring a MM bomber and a Br necro allong on the ride and you can use just about any bar you feel like playing to tell the truth, because your SR energy management will be going nuts anyways.
As others have said [Barbs] is an ok skill (although the 2 sec castingtime is bad)
If you want to leave Barbs, then you are better off with the next 2 Skills (faster casting and much more AoE damage)
[Mark of Pain] [Insidious Parasite] Works well in an area with many physical damage dealers
As you want to be using a Necro Beastmaster build another skill you should have stapled on there is [Comfort Animal] along with the necesary and obvious [Charm Animal]
