The 'perfect' MM?
Hi all,
I've been running this MM build for ages now and I thought, hey lets see what guru makes of it. Sadly I dont know how to make the little skill image with the descriptions that show up, so you guys will just have to put up with reading. :P
I wear a survivor insigna on the chest then radiant on everything else (the nuances depend on your own preferences) and i have a Vigor rune on another armor piece, aswell as a minor Soul Reaping. As a weapon I carry the Nightbriger but Ghail's Staff would, in theory, work just as well.
Death Magic: 12+1+3
Healing Prayers: 9
Soul Reaping: 9
Deathly Swarm
Heal Area/Karei's Healing Circle
Flesh Golem {E}
Animate Bone Fiend
Animate Vamparic Horror
Animate Shambaling Horror
Blood Of The Master
Signet Of Lost Souls
Deathly Swarm can be swapped out for another attack skill, but I like it because its multy-targetting and its rechage isnt incredably long, the casting time is decent and the energy costs too considering what it deos.
I always start the minion-making off with the Flesh Golem. It may seem obvious to many be I have encountered MMs that try and raise a few other minions, as a just in case style of thing, before the Golem. You then depending on the area, raise different minions. it always helps to have a few Vamparic Horrors out there to half negate you could say your health saccrifices. When a target gets below 50% health hit him SoLS, and then rinse and reapeat.
I run this with with the S-way healer, the S-way SS and a modified version of the S-way MM with Extenguish replacing Animate Bone minions, so that all I have to do once I've raised my bone army is keep them alive whilst he keeps the minions 'reproducing' if you want.
Hope you enjoyed the build/guide and as this is my first post of this kind critisism and possible changes to the build is welcome!
EDIT: forgot to mention bout the bloodstained insigna :P ty 4 pointing that out

I prefer [skill]Reaper's Mark[/skill] as an elite.
Other than that, I like [skill]Verata's Aura[/skill] in Alliance Battles.
And laugh if you must, but My MM is the only character I have that carries [skill]Mending[/skill]. I find it lets me cast BotM without worrying about health at all.
I rarely carry any offensive spells as a MM.

Drop [Animate Flesh Golem] for [Aura of the Lich] [Jagged Bones] or [Order of Undeath]. Maybe [Icy Veins] if you want more direct damage.
Instead of [Deathly Swarm] take [Death Nova] as a damage skill.
[Heal Area] isn't strictly bad, but unless you are with a pug monk whom you can't trust to heal its usually better to put the attribute points into curses and take [Enfeebling Blood].
btw to put the skill icons up, type [Insert skill name].

lease say you were joking about the mending bit . I never bring any attacking skills too though, you team should be killing while you produce the minions, also in PvE you should always have alot of energu from soul reaping but SoLS can still be useful at moe difficult places.
I also prefer the N/D to a N/Mo since you can easily spam BotM without worrying about you health.

[Jagged Bones] and [Death Nova] are nice on a hero skill bar but I don't see a human player casting those on his minions ...

Depends on how much effort you want to put in. A human player can easily handle the skills, just takes a bit of practice and battle awareness. If you can use them they are very effective. Especially combined with my [Enfeebling Blood] suggestion, your minions survive more then long enough for you to target and cast the spells on them.

My hero is so much better then me playing a minion bomber I tend to play something other then MM. I find the N/RT is fun to play and another build I made up is pretty fun
SS
Insiduos Parasite
Parasitic bond (cover)
Mantra of inscriptions
Signet of humility
Signet of distraction
Signet of disruption
Hex eater signet
Allows me to spam SS and IP on recharge and still interupt/disable almost at will. Hex eater is really optional but its a nice utility skill if you dont need a rez (Dungeons, explorables...)

I hate to say it, but this build is rather subpar. Not as bad as the crap we usually get posted as "omg teh best MM build ever," but still needs a lot of improvement.
1. Chest insignia is wrong. You do NOT want excess life unless you've got 2 sup runes to offset. Excess life always works against you by forcing you to waste energy to heal back unnecessarily larger sacs. If you want to boost survivability, use a MM's insignia on the chest and possibly legs.
2. Missing BLOODSTAINED insignia. Major omission.
3. Soul reaping rune is not optional. The only question is which one.
4. Nightbringer is a terrible weapon because (1) it replaces the useful 20% +1 death magic mod with a +30hp mod that affirmatively HURTS you by adding excess life, and (2) it's got 2 less energy than the otherwise equivalent wand+focus combo. Use a 20/20 wand + 20HCT, 20% +1 Death focus combo or ghails (or the collector's equivalent).
5. Attributes are wrong. You only need 8 healing to counteract full-speed saccing,.. or at least you will once you get rid of all that excess hp. Needs more SR.
6. Deathly Swarm is simply awful. Armor-sensitive cold damage = poo. Add to that the high cost and long cast and you've got a craptacular spell. Remove and replace with something like EBSoHonor.
7. Flesh Golem isn't bad per se, but there's better elites. Order of Undeath gives much, much better DPS. AotL empowers such excessive BotM spam that it usually makes normal horrors better tanks. Between those two, Fleshy doesn't do anything that another elite doesn't do better.
8. Shambling Horror sucks. The recharge is awful. The anti-synergies with the minion cap and the soul reaping timer are significant problems. The resulting jagged horror has less hp and armor than a regular horror, leaving it a poor tank. The bleeding is nice, but usually wasted since they all tend to gang up on the same target. (Not bad for MB's though.)
9. Even if Shambling Horror didn't suck, you should remove it because you don't need 3 minion spells. Fiend + (Vamp/)Horror is all you need. Use the skillslot you save for something else.
10. SoLS is generally inferior to Masochism for MM's. Maso is purely passive, so you can't miss because your target died or was healed or not have time to use it because you're too busy animating like you can with SoLS, and you don't need to search for a target either.
11. No rez. If you're not going to put it on the bar, at least bring rez scrolls.

I normally refrain from posting very often on builds in particular, but MM does not mean bring almost every minion you have unlocked. What are you doing to assist your party when you don't have any minions? Im not trying to jump on you, or anyone who thinks highly of no-team-support MM, but I see entirely too many people with similar MM builds. I know all about the "its pve, if your team can't kill, etc". A minion should be an extension of your party support. not your only means of support. The necromancer has entirely too many other better options avaliable to them than just sitting by as a spectator waiting on the first corpse to drop.

this build wasnt designed 2 b purfect, just wanted 2 c wat ppl wud say :P
loads of brilliant ideas, and the only reason i have highish health is cuz i used 2 run a diff version of the build which needed higher health (wil try and find that asap cuz it was fun) machomism works brilliantly and i did mention i belive that DS was just a personnal favorite. U do wat u like :P
swapped out the shambaling horror 4 putrid bile works nicely.
@ jayce: MMs r another form of PvE and imo if u have better builds post them in a new thread instead of in one designed for discusion of the build.
@ cosmic error: build was nvr going 2 b perfect i anticipated that with the ''s and the '?' mark.

For bombing (heroes would probably play this better): [skill]Animate Bone Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Minions[/skill][skill]Necrosis[/skill][skill]Blood of the Master[/skill][skill]Death Nova[/skill][skill]Jagged Bones[/skill][skill]Dark Bond[/skill][skill]Mystic Regeneration[/skill]
For support: [skill]Animate Bone Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Fiend[/skill][skill]Foul Feast[/skill][skill]Blood of the Master[/skill][skill]Necrosis[/skill][skill]Aura of the Lich[/skill][skill]Infuse Condition[/skill][skill]Mystic Regeneration[/skill]
Use Masochism in place of Mystic Regen for better energy. Hmmm since Mystic Regen's been nerfed (slow to catch up meh), you can have Karei's Healing Circle instead. Have to rely on others putting out hexes and conditions for Necrosis.

Cthons post hit the nail on the head pretty much. Follow that advice and you will have a better experience playing MM.

Nice build btw i should try it out, my first post ^^ and i have not got everything down, but any way, i agree with most of the posts Its a nice build for a begening necro but later on i would move tword order of the undead and aura of the lich, BUT jagged bones is more sutible for heros or super uber leet necros that think they just pwn so much!! Good build besides that ^^
