you will want scars, or tats if you're using mo/n... the defense of it doesn't matter, but the energy is definitely 'necessary'.
(yes, it 'can' be done without, but having the extra makes life a lot easier)

speak for yourself. I can survive 15 smites with 55hp, and probably most other enemies. (granted not as a n/mo or mo/n, but with my mo/w build I can just fine.)

Ok ok... I can see this working really well... except for 1 part...
In the UW after you have killed the aatxes and the grasping darknesses you need to kill the smite crawlers. Shadows of fear is a good way to cover the SS, but most of the time the smites cast smite hex before you can actually cast the cover hex. As far as I can see there are no hexes that can be cast faster.

The trick is that you dont cover anything until the smite hexes have been wasted on the initial cast of sof.
You dont cast SS first on smites then SoF to cover it That's silly. Ranks right up there with trying to cover SS with Parasitic bond over and over and over or replacing guardian with orison of healing for smite runs.
You initially cast SoF, let it get smite hexed cast SS in the window of opportunity then re-cover with SoF. Repeat procedure 1-2 more times=dead smites. Many times I drop smites in around 30 seconds

Ive tried UW 10-15 times by now with this build, the nightmares kill me everytime. Maybe its my l337 newbieness with this build or i haven't done it enough to quite get a grasp on it. I guess a laggy comp doesnt help much either. I am quit pleased though, at the effectivness of this build in killing Griffins and Minotaurs. I spent all but 3k of my gold making this build, and im already back into the 40k range (Within about 2 days). Yes..im still poor, but that's because when i get gold...i have to spend it. Just bought new drok armor for my worrior, finally giving in and replacing all but one of my knights pieces for the platemail pieces, replacing a few runes i managed not to salvage and dyeing it all green again.

There are Two ghost to your left where u spawn that you can hide behind when NM spawns.... the beginning area should be the only area that there is a problem with them.... hide behind them, the Aatxes can't get to u, and u can wand the NM.... hope this helps

I watched the video this way, and have tried it myself a few times. It seems no matter where i stand the aatxes still managed to get a hit off on me. As i said, my computer is pretty laggy down there at the start, so perhaps UW just isn't for me yet. And i can live with that, i still love killing mass minotaurs/griffens. Don't get me wrong, though. I will still continue to toss in a few K$ every once in a while and give it some more tries.

When i griffon farm I take insideus parasite instead of shadow of fear because it casts quick and does the same thing as SS except just on one at a time but it heals you. I also take blessed sig for free quick energy for when I am only fighting 1 or 2 foe at a time.
