Grenth's Balance
I don't see the point of this skill. In the handful of times I've tried to use it, it accomplished exactly squat. Against big bosses (Glint, Shiro, Abaddon, etc.), which are allegedly the ideal targets for GB, nothing happens. The enemy loses zero health and I am left with a worthless elite slot.
Is there some kind of hidden criterion that I don't know about?

I actually used this skill a lot on my war way back when proph was still new.
Think I had like 2 sup runes for low health lolz and was able to buffer some damage with increased armor.
That way it was kinda effective.. mostly used this to solo in Lornars though.

its pretty much pointless to bring for any reason

It worked pretty good for my necro in the Norn tournament. But that's pretty much it.

You do know that you can't use it at full health, right? The enemy will only lose as much health as it takes to get you to max. Sac yourself down, then GB for a good ~500 lifestealing, which is armor-ignoring.

GB hasent ben useful since NF came out.
But,the reason they didnt take any/much damage was because you need to get your health low before you use it.

The lower your own life is, the greater affect it has.
I nearly soloed Glint with this skill alone (took two hits on purpose, used GB, rinse wash repeat).
It is a very good skill, but you need to know how to use it (i.e. lower your life down, then use it on high health enemies).
With all the Blood Magic skills Necromancers can use, it would be useless for them though. Back in the day, it was good, when NF came, it's usefulness went to 3 on a 10 point scale.

i still use it for certain solo builds, seems to work for me. How does the release of nightfall make a skill worthless? just curious.

I think the release of NF made it pointless because of 1) Ravenous Gaze and 2) the fact that NF skills in general have powercreep in them.

Better skills are out now, or at least, more idiot proof skills.

Actually I did not know. I read the skill description repeatedly but did not interpret it that way.
Quote:
You gain Health equal to half the difference between you and target, and this foe loses an equal amount.

What part of that implies that I must have less than full health for the spell to function? No other health-gaining skill is predicated on that condition. If that's how it was intended to work, okay; I will just not bother using this skill anymore. The text could stand to be more precise though.

i understand that skills since NF's release are in some cases overpowered. but that has not seemed to change GB for me. i mean i still see the GB as a very unique skill that fills a certain niche'. It is however a skill with kind of a singular use.

Used right GB makes big bosses like Abaddon super easy,He does enough damage to you which the chances are your monks(especiallly heros) will have a tough time healing through dazed.
Very niche skill though, hardly viable in normal PvE

Grenth's Balance 'steals' health equal to half the difference between your health and the target's current health, up to your maximum.
Basically, for it to work well, raise your maximum health to as high as possible and then sacrifice almost all of it. Then cast GB and watch their health bar plummet.
Only a few circumstances in which I use it. Still, it's better than a lot of elites.

I will not repeat what others have said. ppl didn't mention using GB against the glacial griffon and cyndr.
one more thing in favor of this elite is that it's not connected to any attribute so secondary necros can use it without spending any points at all.
