Default Dark Aura strikes again

This isn't an uber-bar but it works quite successfully and is a bit of fun to play with. Mostly it's something different.

11 Blood (minor)
16 Death (sup and headpiece)
11 SR (sup)

Blood of the Aggressor
Dark Pact
By Ural's Hammer!
Consume Corpse
Dark Bond
Aura of the Lich
Masochism
Dark Aura

Bring a caster sword and attack with it to get in range. Then fire BUH and cycle BotA/DP as fast as possible. Use CC to escape or for energy.

This gives 19 DM, so you get strong minions and a strong Dark Aura, which double-triggers when you run the attacks. Dark Bond offloads the damage to the minions, who also contribute significant damage and they cycle SR more often.

You can spam the attacks and BUH indefinitely and the bar rates 100 DPS by itself on the Master of Damage over the full 3 minutes. That also neglects the AoE from DA. Renew the enchants before they expire for extra damage. The sacrifice damage is easily manageable.

You could probably have two ER-Prots cover you with Prot Bond (to share the cost) and then run into a mob solo and wipe them in seconds. I haven't tried that though.

Discuss.

Funny build. I remember testing masochism + dark aura a while ago and it didn't work for me, but it seems to be doing so now.

Most of the time I'd want a run stance to get in range faster. It may be worth trading off consume or urals for it.

Get yourself an ele infuser and your good to go.

Edit:

You got something good going on here. Feel free to PM me, I'd like to see your build for myself.

Not BUH, since it affects ALL the damage packets you pump out. CC is do-able though.

Go 9 Blood and 9 SR and use Majors on both. 5 more health.

very interesting, looks similar to a Dark Aura build I tinkered with back before AoTL was changed, at the time it was just a very effective way to keep damage and sacrifices under control.

But yeah the new synergy between masochism and DA looks quite nice indeed

I took your basic idea and made my own modifications. Then I whent to the master of damage for lulz.

Masochism, Dark Aura, BiP.
Get your health down to 105
40/40 blood set

3 Heroes with DA and 0 ranks in death (Splits the damage). Make sure you have Vigorous Spirit, Healing Breaze and a copy or two on Glimmering Light.

Cast all the enchantments on yourself, then spam BiP on a hero. Ends up cranking out ~130 DPS. Even more if you have BUH. Its not very practical, but its fun to run vs the Master of Damage for lols. (It could work with Prot spirit and no enchant removal in the area. Your heroes will have the energy to spam prots/heals with BiP)

I would suggest delaying activating BUH, but I doubt you'll actually want to go below 50% and it seems unlikely with 2 ER Ele's covering you.

Could be quite amusing. Wouldn't recommend it for anything serious, obviously.

I've been toying with some variants on this build for awhile. It works surprisingly well even in HM. Too much of a glass cannon to be a best-of-the-best build, but still far better than most builds posed here or on wiki, remarkable AoE DPS, and a heck of a lot of fun.

A couple notes:
  • Heavy enchantment stripping is a problem. There's some areas that just aren't worth the trouble.
  • You may have a sword & shield, but don't forget that you're still not a warrior. A dozen earthbound oozes are still going to kill you if you run into the middle of them.
  • Dark Bond is life. Your survival depends on keeping DB up and at least 1 minion alive. Normally this isn't a problem. For situations where it is, here's a few options:
    • Swap CC for BotM to keep the minions alive. Another double DA trigger, but a painful sac.
    • Swap AotL for Flesh Golem for a more durable scapegoat.
    • Give up DB entirely, and go N/D for Conviction. Obviously, works better if most of the problem damage sources are blockable.
  • If you need a self-heal, going N/D for Mystic Regen works well.

I was thinking about this, and have something even better: Mindbender. Faster cast, faster run, and it's a spell so it triggers DA.

EDIT: Spells reordered to make things a bit easier.

Blood of the Aggressor
Dark Pact
By Ural's Hammer!
Dark Aura
Masochism
Aura of the Lich
Dark Bond
Mindbender

Just blasted through Raisu HM with Zodiac easily. Only problem was the mesmers with Arcane Languor and Diversion.

EDIT2: There is a solution to the anti-caster hate. Bring a monk hero with Spellbreaker. Set it to disabled and manually run it. This stops mesmer hexes and most enchant stripping. This bar kills anything in 10s, so the duration is fine.

Looks acctually really good I set it up the other day on my necro but he dosen't have the elite yet and I'm to lazy to buy a tome...

I was thinking though...while you'd loose the extra armor and possible +30 from the sheild or maybe energy from a focus.... how would this work with daggers? I mean you'd have a faster attack speed and like you said survivability isn't much of a problem so is the extra armor/health/energy that important that daggers couldn't be used.

Extra note:

I suppose a DM off-hand with master of my domain might be useful here again if survivability really isn't a problem...

It does look like a fun build to run, but I always hate having to pre-cast so many enchants before charging into a mob. Mindbender helps but... Which would be the cover enchant, should you need one?
