Default SS + Faintheartedness, counter productive?

Hey all,

I was trawling the wikisphere for updated SS builds (decided to make a new necromancer after along time away from it!) and noticed that many of the SS templates included Faintheartedness as a cover hex....

Now, I might be being really slow here, but I thought that surely the whole point of SS is that in NM you use skills like reckless haste, to force increased triggering of SS...which is why it kicks so much ass in HM due to monsters' IAS etc... so a cover hex that actually slows the rate of attack surely isn't a good thing?

I would have thought that "Suffering" would be a much better cover hex for echoed mobs; affects multiple foes, lasts longer, all for a 2s more recharge time and 5 more energy.

So yeh...I just wanted to double check that this is the case, and that I'm not missing something majorly obvious >.< /slowchild. thx!

http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:N/Me_SS_Nuker - No Faintheartedness. I still think the build given there is flawed but then that's just me.

Suffering is terrible; it doesn't do anything and costs 15 energy. Reckless Haste is better, even in Hard Mode.

meh I must've been looking in the wrong place then >.< but even people pinging me builds had faintheartedness in... just wanted to check xD

/agree re: suffering, but as a cover hex maybe it has uses? covers more in a group then having to do each individually? I have to say I prefer parasitic bond as a cheapy mc cheaperson cover :P

Simply put,a lot of people just don't have a clue and blindly follow badly vetted builds on wiki's.

Reckless Haste and P-Bond are indeed suitable SS covers. Suffering doesn't really do anything to make it worth carrying unless you absolutely need a long duration hex, which chances are if you need one, you're running discord so SS won't be used.

I could never understand in my early days why reckless haste was used in hm when foes already attack faster - till i realised the key part to the skill is that foes will miss % of the time and thats the difference between getting your ass pounded and getting ass lightly spanked ( sorry only way i can think of putting it lol ).
It may also be a case of a really old build thats never been updated and i cant think of suffering has ever been buffed/nerfed.

As has been said, reckless haste is one of the best options if you need a cover for ss... it used to be stapled on my bar actually
I have only seen suffering being used to cover lingering curse in pvp builds; and I personally don't find faintheartedness all that usefull in pve either.

It's also the case that some/most/many HM monsters are capable of going slightly faster before they hit the IAS cap.
