To be honest, 1v1 is completely pointless. It's basically nothing more than a game of rock, paper, scissors. If you seriously want to do this, just put Crippling Shot, Apply Poison, and Distracting Shot in your skill bar and you can counter most builds in 1v1, the rest is just fluff.

Rangers don't stand a chance in hell against a Ritualist. You can't interrupt Vengeful Weapon or Weapon of Remedy and those 2 skills can kill you alone or bring it to a complete stalemate.
1v1 is pointless.

That's funny - it reminded me the last time I played RA with my rit (as a rit lord). We had 9 consecutive wins, and there was only me and a trapper left. Just imagine... me spamming spirits - the ranger stayed away of course, and he spamming traps - I obviously wouldnt walk on them. half an hour later I finally manage to kill him. I never played a rit lord there again.
Back on topic, yeah: GW isn't designed for 1v1 (and I hope it will stay the same - GW2 I'm looking at you!). Beating someone in 1v1 doesnt prove anything, honnestly.

Have you tried a more or less standard Burning Arrow? Conditions can't be retributed and ele spells and spirits are usually easily interrupted. Try variations with concussion shot. GL.

That's unless the opponent is using a template (or near-template) Rt/E split build, which has Weapon of Remedy and Vengeful Weapon. Have fun interrupting those...
...Although I've had people consistently Distracting my Reversal. Annoying as hell.
You COULD try using Concussion Shot, but then you'd need a spell to interrupt first (not all that hard, the skillbar has more than those two skills), or you could use Broad Head Arrow. Although no Burning Arrow makes your Ranger pack a lot less punch.

BHA + Apply Poison + Screaming + Needling + Pin Down or Harrier's Grasp
Vengeful and Remedy only deal damage if you are attacking constantly. BHA first to daze, Screaming + Apply to cause degen, then don't attack again unless to reapply BHA or interrupt a healing skill. Pin Down to stay at a safe distance if you're in trouble. When target is below 50%, just spam needling. With it's fast rate of fire on a dazed enemy, even fast cast spells like vengeful can't be pulled off.
There is a counter to just about everything with just about every class. The only thing that really determines a win or loss in a 1v1 is just what build happens to be in your bar and what build happens to be in your opponents which is the biggest reason it's so mindless. Even though you can use intelligence to counter just about anything, 1v1 is more of a hypothetical game of chance than anything else really.
